Performed adequately during the Cuban Missile Crisis, but obviously fumbled the ball big time on Vietnam. Even in the wake of mounting evidence that victory was just not a good prospect, McNamara stubbornly refused to admit the ineptitude of his counsel and instead continued advising further expansion of the war. His recent public apology and admission of the war being a gross mistake is too little too late.

This know it all was the worst of a bad lot. He should be vilified constantly.
