I wouldn't be surprised if this was an around about way to discourage the Klan from showing themselves. I remember when I was in high school, I was on a Caribbean cruise with my family. My younger sister at the time had dreadlocks. We pulled into port in St. Thomas and they wouldn't let my sister on the island - apparently there was a law that prevented folks with dreadlocks from arriving to St Thomas. The island had been having problems with drugs and weapons being brought in by dreadlocked Jamaicans so they passed a law to treat the symptoms.I thought it was pretty cool that my sister was banned from St Thomas - it was an immediate burst of street cred for her.

Personally, masked is would be the only way I'd appear in public if I was in Alabama. Try to pass a law like this in Alaska.

Does the Klan know about this?

So I guess dressing up like a storm trooper is right out, then. I'm gonna write the guys at the 501st Legion about this crap and see if we can get some troops on this. Maybe Vader himself will jump on this one...

I've been to Alabama. Concerning some of the residents there, wearing masks in public should be encouraged rather than prohibited.

I'm so glad I live in SC, the land of the free. I am putting my mask collection to great use. People seem to like my fancy Mardi Gras masks, but tend to scatter when I wear my creepy hockey mask.

But sacks over the head are completely appropriate...as long as you are also wearing a jacket and tie.

Do the kids at least get their Halloween candy back, after their mug shots are taken?

I don't see the point in wearing a costume in public anyways, but to make a law making it illegal is ridiculous.
