Also illegal in Tennesee. This is another one of those "Public Safety" type deals.

I don't think there is a specific law about shoes, but several states have vague laws like "failure to use due care in operation of a motor vehicle" that this might fall under if a cop is itching to write a ticket. There might be safety issues at hand, I don't know. I've done it a couple of times and I found it quite uncomfortable, but I find it uncomfortable to go barefoot outside the house anyway.

Which is why Fred and Wilma crossed the state line to the town of Bedrock.

i for some reason that was also a law here in utah too. i always wear shoes of some kind so this isn't a big deal.

I remember one time when I was driving and I was wearing flip flops, they kinda slipped off so this actually makes sense. And what would happen if your car broke down and you had to get out and start walking, going to wish you had them Dr. Scholls in the car then. I say if you don't wear shoes while you drive, always keep a good pair in the vehicle, you never know when you are going to break down and have to walk for help.

'Cause, you know, you get a better feel for the gas pedal with shoes on. Barefoot, you just don't know what you're pushin'.

Okay, so I'm old enough to drive, but I haven't. Since I haven't ever driven a car, I don't know if there's some kind of good reason for this law, but it still sounds pretty dumb to me.
