This is a fantastic idea -- I wish they were outlawed around here, too.

Dumb Law? It may be one of the finest examples of legislators doing something right in the entire history of democracy.

Enacted to preserve the scenary which makes a good deal of sense, given how much of Hawaii's economy is derived from tourism.
As far as I'm concerned they could enact the same law where I live.

Not so dumb. It may have something to do with weather as well. Lubbock, Texas has the same ban because of the winds.

Why ruin the scenery that tourists pay so much for!

Have to agree that this law isn't really that dumb. If we're going to have billboards, let's see about making them smaller and more creative like the Burma Shave ones.

I have no problem with this actually.

Should be illegal EVERYWHERE!

Hawaii banned billboards by popular referendum because the people wanted to preserve the scenery of the state. Totally within their rights and completely understandable.

I'm wondering what the reason for turning this into a law was. What's wrong with having billboards?
CastleBee 09/27/2004
If you've ever been to Hawaii you wouldn't wonder why they outlawed these eyesores. It would be a travesty to mar that beauty with advertising. More power to them. Should be a world law.
