Typecast as a goofy comedic actor, he is immensely underrated for his dramatic acting ability IMO...

where can i ask as to the role played by robin williams in mrs. doubtfire as the "old maid".....i saw a classic 1944 movie wit ray milland and in it, appeared barbara everest as the "maid" and lord and behold....his fictitious character was almost as true to a real person as it can get.....check it out.....
Spike65 04/08/2008
Four stars for fearlessnes in some of the interesting roles he has chosen. Not bad for a stand-up comic.
jnkberns 03/10/2008
Awful. His stand-up is the worst of all-time. If you need any affirmation of how awful he is, just look at the Oscars. They continually put Robin Williams, Billy Crystal, and Whoopie Goldberg as the host, or they have all three. Three of the most over-rated and boring "comedians" on the planet.

It's been a while since he's come out with a GREAT comedy, but still he has some pretty classic comedies under his belt; Mrs. Doubtfire, Good Morning Vietnam etc. He even proved he can play serious roles too. Winning an Oscar for his role in Good Will Hunting. A lot of people don't like him, but I do. I guess hes one of those actors you either like or hate. While he does come across silly in some movies, he has made me laugh in alot of his past movies too.
garagehero 08/06/2007
One dimensional actor that never got beyond his Mork And Mindy and/or his way-to-cute 10 second manic-gibberish delivery in terms of acting. One of the worst actors in American history, certainly one of the most annoying. Bascially, he plays the same character in every movie he is in.
HelloKitty09 07/28/2007
Overrated. The only thing that Robin can play is a wacky cartoon voice.
nessa6565 05/22/2007
Great guy but pretty much uses the same routine in everything he's done. I find it annoying when he tells a joke because it seem like he belives he's the funniest man alive and that it's a privilage to laugh at him. he's overrated.
edt4 05/14/2007
I respect him. I think he's very talented, and lightnin'-fast on his mental feet. I simply don't find him all that funny. That's not necessarily meant as criticism; a lot of one's appreciation of comedy is subjective, obviously. I may not personally enjoy Buster Keaton movies, but I would admit his cinematic work is stamped by genius. I do think Robin's much-ballyhooed "transition" to serious acting is dilettantism of the most obvious sort. In the "serious" roles I've seen him in, he's ok...nothing more. Why not get a more accomplished and better suited actor to play a particular part? Maybe the studios feel that Robin's name on a marquee will draw in the audiences. Maybe so, but it doesn't necessarily make for a better movie.
CanadaSucks 05/14/2007
Much better during his coke-infused days. . .Williams has done some good work, but it wildly overrated. . .
windchime 04/13/2007
Please go away I never could stand you & your maniacal personality. You r JUST not funny. The worst is looking into your eyes & seeing a lost soul.. Please find peace in another realm (inacessable to the public, mind you) to exert your passions. God speed!
GreggOrange 01/06/2007
He could very well be the most overrated comedian of all time. His comedy albums were brutally self-aggrandizing and unfunny. His role as Mork was representative of TV sitcom execs that have no casting skills. His cutesy, self-absorbed, over-the-top style of showstopper comedy falls flat in its egocentric approach. If you think that Robin Williams is some sort of comedic genius, or perhaps possesses undeniably fantastic improvisational comedic skills, you need to get your head out of your cornhole. Hamming it up and acting like some coke-headed court jester does not a great comedian or actor make! Gong!
jswenson 12/01/2006
I love this guy. He is so fun to watch.
FranksWildYear s 11/29/2006
A good actor with a history of making bad choices. His best work these days comes when his name appears below the title of the movie (Good Will Hunting, Insomnia) as opposed to above the title (RV, Man of the Year).
RIAUSA 10/04/2006
From Good Morning Vietnam to the Big White, Robin Willams is a great actor. The Big White is one of my favorite movies. It was filmed in 2004.
Jeremy00081 09/12/2006
Although he gets a little annoying at times, I had to give this guy a perfect 5. His roles in "Good Will Hunting", "Awakenings", and- yes, I'm going to say it- "The Adventures of Baren Munchousen" are state of the art.
adc103051 08/02/2006
Profane spewing idiot.
kissmeback 06/24/2006
if one want a comic actor ,this is the best there is,no ifs and or dough about it.
DoorGunner 05/01/2006
Without his medication or a strong director, this jack-ass is a complete bore. As a comedian, he tries too hard and is about as funny as a herniated disc. Keep him away from emceeing awards shows. and keep him away from the coke. He's already hyper enough as is.
Gromit 01/16/2006
INCREDIBLE ACTOR! INCREDIBLE COMEDIAN! Long live Robin Williams!!!
Spungold 01/08/2006
Truly talented actor and great at Improving.
Djahuti 12/12/2005
Robbin Williams can act- just watch the "Dead Poets Society" if you doubt this. However,he is almost always playing the same annoying spaz, and for that I have to deduct a few points.
GenghisTheHun 12/11/2005
The Robin is funny sometimes but a pain in the back side other times. Sometimes I can't stand the smirking.
interloper5 12/04/2005
I find him to be a creepy man, I loved him as Mork.
Torontosucks 10/26/2005
I love his more serious roles as an actor, but not crazy about his comedy.
Kairho 10/10/2005
He has amazing range for an actor ... which is astonishing to all of us to whome he started out as a comedian.
sfalconer 09/06/2005
Robin is a great actor but he must be a nightmare to cast as he just does not fit the mold. I would love to see him do some thing with Jim Carey.
aikeo_n 09/05/2005
He always scared me as a kid, he gives me a creepy vibe: Like those guys that would try to offer you candy the ones your mom always told you to stay away from :( YUCK!
Kittenstocats 08/25/2005
Robin williams is one of my favorite funny actors. the only bad thing is that when he tries to do a serious film he still seems funny. But thats ok that is what he is about!!! I thought his newer one one hour photo was great It seemed to drag a lot but it was a unique film and held my interest.
JukeBoxHero 06/27/2005
How can u not laugh @ Patch Adams? That movie was awesome!!!!!!
candy kane 05/19/2005
Annoying in everything he does. Take a chill pill Robin!
kattwoman 05/19/2005
hes not done a whole lot of movies but he seems to have made wise choices in the ones he did do.he was excellent as the voice of genie in alladin. he really brought larger than life personilty to him
iloveyoubillie joe 04/28/2005
Funny as Hell
Lilli 04/21/2005
very entertaining
bigfated 04/21/2005
One dimensional. Only good as Mork, and not that good at that. Everything else he has acted in has been a snoozefest due to his flat acting ability. One Hour Photo-Snore / Patch Adams-Snore / What Dreams May Come - Snore and on and on........
caligula 04/18/2005
Funny when I was 12, now I just find him annoying. His dramatic roles are vomit inducing. Patch Adams was unforgivable.
kiwi71 04/13/2005
Genius!

Not only do me and rob love coke! but we also drive the same car. sure mines 20 years older and stays in my driveway but whatever. I dropped out of high school do you think thats ovious?
puppypaws08 04/04/2005
funny& hilarous
texasyankee 03/31/2005
He has maybe 3 roles that I even liked, and that would be Mrs Doubtfire (which doesn't seem to prove that he's really a great actor),Good Will Hunting was probably the only character with any sort of depth, and Dead Poets Society.
Maomania 03/01/2005
Good actor, but I am over the way he talks. And we haven't seen a lot from him over the last few years. At least nothing that would be worth to be mentioned.
dpostoskie 02/04/2005
I don't care how much he sweats live, this guy cooks.
billkincaid 01/17/2005
Robin Williams is a guy who just can't say no. As a result he has made the same movies over and over. Obvious, predictable feel-good pap that is really below his obvious talents. What's next? Maybe another one where he plays the quiet, closeted psycho, or perhaps his patented off-the-wall, misunderstood-by-square-people savior to some trouble person, be it Will Hunting, comatose patients, or Mrs. Doubtfire's kids. Also, Mrs. Doubtfire was a family-values-deficient attempt to rationalize that divorce is somehow OK for the kids, as long as Dad comes around once in a while with a joke or two... possibly motivated by Robin's dumping of his wife for the nanny? The sad part is lots of family-values-type people liked the feel-good part so much they missed the perverted message. Robin can stay home as far as I'm concerned.
Working-Class_Hero 11/27/2004
I find him really silly big time .. but i think he's got a message .. but who cares about it any way ...
Dev 11/26/2004
Maybe the best actor these day's. I thought he was outstanding in Awakenings.
noskcaj 11/24/2004
Annoying and not funny. Quit stealing other peoples time when you go on the Tonight Show.
uofmsparty 11/12/2004
it's not everyday that you see one of the best comedians of all time win an oscar for being the best supporting actor..I love his crazy movies because he is hilarious..but his serious roles such as dead poets society, and good will hunting...he is a really good actor
Mr Evangel 10/08/2004
Funny most of the time.
Roy_Freddy 10/04/2004
This guy stinks so bad it's awful!!!! Like roslyn217 said Robin Williams is too manic and too schmaltzy for my tastes as well. He definitely should take some good strong sedatives during the course of the day. JJBurns84 is absolutely correct in his/her description of Robin Williams. As a daily mental excercise Mr. Williams should focus on one idea or one thought and try to stay focussed on that idea or thought for at least 5 minutes or more if possible. He should use more subtlety in his acting. Overall, he needs to get a better grip on his brain and start using it more, in more thinking roles.
