I suppose if I ever purchase tomatoes and clams at the same time from the market, the secret police would follow me home for the suspicion of making this dish that night.

I like this one. Tomatoes in chawdah? Public crucifixion!
LadyJesusFan77 7 08/27/2008
What would I care? I wouldn't be eating either one of them.

They wouldn't have to worry about me breaking that law. Granted, I just don't think tomatoes and clam chowder are a compatible combination. However, making a law against it is a bit ridiculous. Heck, let people eat what they want. Different tastes are part of what makes this a colorful world.

What a silly law. I was discussing it with my lawyer the other evening over a glass of fine Canadian Champagne.

With good reason!

This should be enforced nationally, tomatoes in chowder ain't right, gotta be New England clam chowder.

I hate Manhattan style clam chowder! Good for them! It's a competative thing you know.
Mad Hatter 03/11/2005
No problem for me. I don't like either one.
kamylienne 10/15/2004
Heh, if this were a law, I wouldn't mind it. My opinion on chowder is that New England style far surpasses Manhattan style. But, to each his own.

And it damn well should be in my opinion. This should be serious time in the joint as far as I'm concerned.
Vudija 10/15/2004
I don't eat either of those, so I have no problem with that law!

I think it's more about state pride than anything else.

It serves as a good mnemonic for those of us who have trouble remembering which is New England Clam Chowder (white, no tomatoes, by law) and which is Manhattan style.
