How could you not like this one?

Been a while since he came out with anything good, but he does have GOOD range! An outstanding actor weather it be drama/comedy/action.

forest gump is the only movie I like with him.

From Bosom Buddies to an Oscar?

This guy has done some of the greatest films i've seen

Well i had really disliked him until about a week ago, i finally watched Forrest Gump and there is no way i can give him a 1 after that.

Another one that started in TV and went on to do great things. Not a day goes by almost that some quote from Forrest Gump doesn't pop up...and he was phenomenal in Philadelphia. And that is just the beginning.

How can you not love this guy. He is so "wholesome" that you can't help but cheer for him. He has had some great roles that, by his hand, turned to amazing characters.

This is my top 5 favorite actors. He is only one of a kind. He's brilliant at his work. Inluding his comedy and his acting of course.

All-around great guy!

One of the best actors of the generation. His roles in The Green Mile and Forrest Gump are awe inspiring and prove just how good of an actor Tom Hanks is.

A ltitle too plain, goody-goody looking, but a very good actor. I can't believe his bio doesn't mention Splash and Bonfire of the Vanities.

For the most part a very good and versatile actor, as witnessed by his gritty performance in Road to Perdition and his very effective performance in Saving Private Ryan. My favorite, however, is his excellent and unforgettable performance in Philadelphia; see my review of it here. On the other hand, he's been in his share of yawners. Remember Joe and the Volcano? Yeah, I know, very forgettable. Chalk it up to bad script selection.

No disputing how amazing he is, after all we all get to where we deserve to be and look at where he is and he still is down to earth. He is such a talented actor and at first I was drawn to his films for what I thought was good work behind the scenes (script writting etc.) and I certainly did not find Mr Hanks attractive. But now, phew, he knocks my socks off - It is so obvious that Tom is at the heart of everything good about a script. He has this look in his eye that has captured my heart and taken me on a journey through his films.

Most of the time I can get into his character but often he is off-putting. He does not deserved the top rating.

One of the few actors who can star in a comedy, war, action, or romance movie and do it well.

He doesn't have the best looks, but the man's definitely got talent with all those great movies he's done.

i cant tell how good an actor he is as all the films I've seen him in are either sentimental sh*te (Sleepless in Seattle), US WW2 propadandist lies/sh*te (Saving Private Ryan), adaptation of an overhyped crap book sh*te (Da Vinci Code), retard sh*te (Forrest Gump), kid sh*te (Big) oh-not-another-movie-with-fecking-Meg Ryan sh*te (Youve got mail)

he is good but the movie cast away was the worst movie i have ever seen, he is one of the best though he should buy back all the tapes and dvd's of cast away an a public service for his fans

Hanks is one of the best actors in the world. Something about him is mesmorizing on the screen. Definitely a 5 star talent.

I really like Tom, but I don't always like the movies he plays in.

This man is a living, breathing, acting legend! I won't call him a God, because I only beleive in one God. He, Hanks, is pure movie gold. I've never in my 27 years seen an actor so fitting for almost every movie ever made! I mean it! You could put him in Anything! He's been in a lot of Oscar nominated or won movies and in a lot of T.V. shows!He can do any part! He Rules!

simply a good actor,its just his choices i don't agree with.

I think he is a great actor but I was very sad to learn that he is a co-producer of the tasteless show Big Love. I am not watching any of his movies new or old until this show is canceled. Often women and chldren are the victims of polygamous relationships.

Hanks never does a bad movie, or at least never makes his part a sorry one.

He has surpassed everyone's expectations if you look back at his early comedies. Two decades ago I thought Tom Hanks, Michael Keaton and Bill Murray were interchangeable stars making the same types of movies. I would have assumed that Michael Keaton would be the one with the staying power, Bill Murray would have a short lucrative run of blockbusters and Tom Hanks would be a foot note, or an answer to question in an 80's trivia game. Goes to show what I know.

I never thought he was anything more than good in any of his roles.

This guy is unbelievable. He is so versatile and really make it work. I loved Big and The Money Pit. He was great in A league of Their Own. I love all his stuff from his comedies, dramas, action....everything. He has got to be literally one of the best actors of all time!

i have seen no better in my 21 (nearly 22) years. all you have to say is forrest gump. i also liked terminal quite a bit. cast away was sensational. the man just has a way of pulling on your heart strings.

I really think this actor is great. He is very natural and seems like the guy next door Not cocky at all or thinks his crap don't stink LOL. I liked him best in Forrest gump,Cast away and Splash!

Without any real close rivals.I would put him in the top 5 of all-time.For those who say he lacks diversity,anyone who can go from Forrest Gump to a toy and then back to a character like the one in Saving Private Ryan or Road to Perdtion deserves many awards and accolades.

Hanks is Mr. Everyman and nobody does it better. Carrielover, Tom Hanks was not in the Whole Nine Yards but Bruce Willis and Mathew Perry were...close enough. PS: I was glad Carrie won the American Idol

I would think he's a living legend. One of the few honorable actors of Hollywood. I've liked so many of his movies, even from the 80's...Money Pit, Bachelor Party, Big, Nothing In Common... Could have done w/out Turner & Hooch, tho...and can't forget about his TV show from the early 80's, Bosom Buddies (not his best work, but you win some, you lose some.) I think he's a great actor and has a great personality. Very versatile actor...

Tom Hanks is one of my favorite current actors.So far every role he has played is believable.Some of my favorite roles of his are for Forrest Gump, and Big,tom had the ability to get me to believe he was 12 in Big. He was wonderul as the kind,not to smart Forrest Gump.I also liked him in Sleepless in Seattle.he makes acting look so effortless.

Very good actor. His movies in the 90's (Philadelphia, Forrest Gump, Saving Private Ryan etc) were the best. I feel he lost a little bit and I have the feeling that the movies he picks are just those I'm a great actore, give me another actor performances. Over the top.

Sorry but that 'Philadelphia' Oscars speech made me throw up it was so luvvie and nauseous. I'm afraid Hanks is one of those act-orrs that refers to what he does as being a 'craft'. For me he's one of those who gets my bum off the seats. Open message TH: 'Tom, you're just an actor..get with it'.

Simply overrated!

I agree with bibliophile; Tom doesn't challenge himself often enough. Even though the movie wasn't great, he gave an excellent performance in Punchline as a cynical, unlikeable comic but he seems to prefer the sympathetic characters closer to his own personality. Maybe I've just seen too much of him; like John Wayne, Tom Cruise, etc. I'm always aware that this is Tom Hanks the actor.

VERY OVERRATED!!

Sort of plays the same role in every movie. Seems to be trying to inherit the James Stewart mantle as the aw-shucks All-American guy. Not necessarily a bad thing, but not very interesting in terms of drama either. Despite its Oscar status, I could only sit through 10 minutes of Forrest Gump. As to Philadelphia, I don't think Hanks did a bad job, but that picture belonged to Denzel Washington, who is a truly gifted actor, as opposed to a merely ok one. Still, Hanks seems to be making some effort to break out of that stereotypical mold- i.e. Road to Perdition.

Tom Hanks is a very talented actor. He has played important roles in numerous movies. He inspires kids and adults. I'm sure that many kids liked him in Toy Story.

Definitely overrated!
