This old heifer earns a five for all the diverse roles that she has played. Her accent roles are kind of a cliche, but who cares.

Now this girl can act. You don't see much women actresses with talent these days. She's very talented in everything she plays. Loved her in The Devil Wears Prada.

Meryl is from my hometown and went to my high school (over 20 years earlier than myself) so I have heard quite a bit about her. She is known to be a bit snooty in real life, though she is a good actress. I do agree with the earlier comment about her lacking charisma though.

I find her accents pretty dodgy e.g. her infamous 'dingo stole my baby' Aussie effort and whatever it was in Out of Ahhfreeekaah. Technically she's a good actress, not sure about great, but I generally find her cold and not particularly charismatic.

Arguably the greatest American ACTRESS alive, master of accents. Holds the record for the most Academy Awards nominations by anyone [13]. Simply superb.

Silkwood, Sophies Choice, Kramer vs Kramer. When I really hate the character, and not just the actions, but the expressions and tone of voice, I know this person is a good actress. I loved her in Silkwood, and hated her in Kramer.

I think that Meryl is a great versatile actress.she has been good in any role I have seen her done. I liked her in Music from the Heart, Sophie's Choice. I even liked the role she had in a tv movie about a mother trying to get help for her epilectic son in First Do know harm. She is a talented woman.

I love Maryl Streep, she is one of those actresses that looks natural while acting. She has been nominated for many movies and have won 2 academy awards. She has a wonderful talent that will be something treasured through Hollywood.

I respect her technique, but feel she has no charisma, She is a total bore. Certainly others feel the same, as her movies are box office failures, for the most part.

THE most amazing and talented woman in film history, PERIOD. Not only that, but all that this woman does for charities...she donate countless amounts of money and time to them. Also, she is genuinely one of the nicest people I have EVER met. (I met her on April 29th, after a play she did in Brooklyn) she was more thna happy to sign an autograph, take a picture and talk to me!!) MERYL STREEP...she is THE greatest!:)

If anyone ever wants to see Streep at her brilliant best just rent out 'Still of the Night' (1981, Just before Sophies Choice) with Meryl opposite Roy Scheider and Jessica Tandy. Now there's film noir for you. Her long monologue scene at the end of the film on a dark balcony with Scheider is one of the most breathtaking pieces of acting in cinematic history. Streep, like modern day luminaries Jessica Lange, Glenn Close and Sigourney Weaver is without peer.

a highly recognizable talent and deservedly slow. a few years back i thought Hollywood had chucked Meryl aside in the same manner they'd done w/a host of other talented older women, but having resurrected herself in indie fare such as Adaptation and The HOurs as well as fantastic cable films like Angels in America Meryl seems to have revived her career in full force. that is not to take away the credentials of the past for this highly talented actress. when one considers Meryl Streep they must look at films like Silkwood, Sophie's Choice, and Out of Africa to see that she stood far above her peers at a younger age as well.

One of the best actresses of our time. How many times was she nominated for an oscar? I don't even remember. But she deserved it every single time. She will be rememberred in 100 years, I'm sure about that. There are not many actors on this earth like her.

Even though she may have a solid grounding in acting technique, I find her very blank and lacking in charisma. I.e she has no star quality. To those people who marked this review down. Clearly you have neither good taste nor common sense. The woman is a total ham.

When she first became prominent, I thought she was an overhyped nothing who excelled at exotic accents. That was until I saw her in Sophie's Choice. It was a breathtaking performance. I've seen nothing to match it since then but, to be fair, Hollywood seems less and less concerned about producing films that have any artistic merit (or any merit period). It's reassuring to know she's still around, and still working. I think Meryl is what someone like Julia Roberts wants to be. Good luck.

The best actress of her generation and the best actress since the other two greats, Bette Davis and Katharine Hepburn, did their finest work. In the future, Meryl Streep will be considered one the finest actors to ever perform in movies by people who never saw her in their lifetime, I feel. Her acting is high art!

Who care about her politics! I'm a conservative and I think she is the finest actress alive. For example, In HBO's Angels in America there was a scene with a little old rabbi giving a eulogy at a funeral. When I read the credits and saw that the little old rabbi was none other than Meryl Streep! Well you could have knocked me over with a feather. She was so convincing! She's the best bar none.

She should be a strong number 1 on this list. I'm totally baffled. What do people want? As far as the left wing thing goes almost all of these folks are to the left of Lenin. They're spoiled, pampered and sheep like when it comes to voicing their PC opinions. I rate them on their art and not their politics. Meryl Streep is a great actress.

Meryl gets my respect first off as a lot of Actresses today feel that their value and worth in the industry comes from taking your clothes off to gain some recognition, particularly from the Oscars. If you look at the awards Meryl has won and how long shes been around shes never had to take her clothes off for any of them or lie about her age like most actors today and shes gained a lot of respect from her peers over the years for caring about her work and valuing herself.

Meryl Streep should be rated 5 stars just for her stunning performance in SILKWOOD, let alone anything else. Meryl Streep is definately an actress that belongs in the history books of Hollywood. Very few have topped her talent today or even in the past. I love her...

She is a great actress. I don't understand why people think she is overrated??? She must not be that bad, if she is the one getting Oscar nominations every other year. She holds the record for most Academy Award nominations ever!! She is a tremendous talent. Sophie's Choice is my favorite film of hers.

She may de-throne Hepburn one day. She is one of a dying bred of actors; serious about their craft. Did you see her interview / exchange with James Lipton on "Actor's Studio" on BRAVO? If not, try to catch it sometime. She is an actor's actor.

excessively overrated ever since sophie's choice. has played the same emotion for 20 years yets yells about limited acting opportunities for women of her age---uh, how come susan sarandon gets gigs, and diane keaton for that matter. all-time worst meryl performance HAS to be "house of the spirits" which was a bastardization of the allende book anyway.

Meryl is one of the classiest ladies in Hollywood, I mean class, not glamour! She is a great actor, secure with who she is, chooses her movies wisely and made the best "move," ) yes, m o v e, not m o v i e) in her life when she left Hollywood - she is too classy a lady for tinsel town. She is no phony and she is not a "groupie" or collective thinker so she can fit in with the "in-crowd" and whatever the latest cause is! She thinks for herself!

I have always admired Meryl Streep becasue she´s a truly actress. Perhaps there are other actresses (Julia, Jodie, Michelle Pf, G Paltrow...) which are more popular than she is.This doesn´t matter. Meryl has something they don´t: a masterful talent. Also she is one of the few survivors from the Hollywood Industy.
