She is falling prey to formulae. A hit play is on Broadway....Can you guess who will star in the movie version? But I suppose money talks. Her talent and range is amazing, but I've never seen her play someone completely in the gutter, like Faye Dunaway has. Overall, her portrayals have become awesome Meryl Streep doing an accent in a mediocre movie. If you want to see excellent character work, watch "La Vie en Rose" (the edith piaf story).

Meryl Streep just makes one boring movie after another.
trebon1038 04/06/2008
I think she is one of the best in our time and could hold her own with some of the classic actresses before her.
Rotem Ben-Shachar 04/05/2008
Amazing actress
GenghisTheHun 04/04/2008
This old heifer earns a five for all the diverse roles that she has played. Her accent roles are kind of a cliche, but who cares.
kittieklaws 02/09/2008
Now this girl can act. You don't see much women actresses with talent these days. She's very talented in everything she plays. Loved her in The Devil Wears Prada.
nidhikataria 06/28/2007
oh i just love her.. she is such an incredible actress!
opal1971 04/20/2007
Meryl is from my hometown and went to my high school (over 20 years earlier than myself) so I have heard quite a bit about her. She is known to be a bit snooty in real life, though she is a good actress. I do agree with the earlier comment about her lacking charisma though.
Limpin' Trenchfoot 08/04/2006
I find her accents pretty dodgy e.g. her infamous 'dingo stole my baby' Aussie effort and whatever it was in Out of Ahhfreeekaah. Technically she's a good actress, not sure about great, but I generally find her cold and not particularly charismatic.
doobiesNhof 06/04/2006
She may be the best actress in the last 30 years.
Peter Traherne 02/20/2006
Arguably the greatest American ACTRESS alive, master of accents. Holds the record for the most Academy Awards nominations by anyone [13]. Simply superb.

She's only the best actress of our time.

Silkwood, Sophies Choice, Kramer vs Kramer. When I really hate the character, and not just the actions, but the expressions and tone of voice, I know this person is a good actress. I loved her in Silkwood, and hated her in Kramer.

I liked her in The bridges of a Madison country. She is very pretty.

I think that Meryl is a great versatile actress.she has been good in any role I have seen her done. I liked her in Music from the Heart, Sophie's Choice. I even liked the role she had in a tv movie about a mother trying to get help for her epilectic son in First Do know harm. She is a talented woman.

A living legend, I can't believe that Sandra Bullock is rated higher. Are you people insane?
Hatman 08/04/2005
as things stand right now she is one of the only actreses in hollywood with any talent what so ever she has grate talent and has stayed to her conviction not selling out to the coperate aspects of the industry
Thots 07/17/2005
Can't believe she has such a low rating (why do all the women have low ratings!?). She is remarkable! Loved her in Adaptation!
sled 06/20/2005
A #1 actress. not enough good rolls for her in the states. Would like to see her in some BBC movies. Very under rated. She is the best actress out there today.
Cindyo 06/17/2005
I love Maryl Streep, she is one of those actresses that looks natural while acting. She has been nominated for many movies and have won 2 academy awards. She has a wonderful talent that will be something treasured through Hollywood.
dodneh 06/08/2005
I respect her technique, but feel she has no charisma, She is a total bore. Certainly others feel the same, as her movies are box office failures, for the most part.
Alanna 06/06/2005
THE most amazing and talented woman in film history, PERIOD. Not only that, but all that this woman does for charities...she donate countless amounts of money and time to them. Also, she is genuinely one of the nicest people I have EVER met. (I met her on April 29th, after a play she did in Brooklyn) she was more thna happy to sign an autograph, take a picture and talk to me!!) MERYL STREEP...she is THE greatest!:)
Randyman 05/15/2005
A great, classic actress with a large body of first calss work to back up her place in cinema history.
tvlachos 05/11/2005
Unequivically, the greatest american actress there ever was. Topped Betty Davis and Crawford. Better than Maggie Smith and Vivien Leigh. She can do anything.
southparker9 04/11/2005
One of the best actresses of our lifetime. Nominated a combined 13 times. No role too challenging for this thespian.
kangaroos 03/21/2005
If anyone ever wants to see Streep at her brilliant best just rent out 'Still of the Night' (1981, Just before Sophies Choice) with Meryl opposite Roy Scheider and Jessica Tandy. Now there's film noir for you. Her long monologue scene at the end of the film on a dark balcony with Scheider is one of the most breathtaking pieces of acting in cinematic history. Streep, like modern day luminaries Jessica Lange, Glenn Close and Sigourney Weaver is without peer.
Skizero 03/08/2005
a highly recognizable talent and deservedly slow. a few years back i thought Hollywood had chucked Meryl aside in the same manner they'd done w/a host of other talented older women, but having resurrected herself in indie fare such as Adaptation and The HOurs as well as fantastic cable films like Angels in America Meryl seems to have revived her career in full force. that is not to take away the credentials of the past for this highly talented actress. when one considers Meryl Streep they must look at films like Silkwood, Sophie's Choice, and Out of Africa to see that she stood far above her peers at a younger age as well.
Maomania 03/01/2005
One of the best actresses of our time. How many times was she nominated for an oscar? I don't even remember. But she deserved it every single time. She will be rememberred in 100 years, I'm sure about that. There are not many actors on this earth like her.
Guava Monkey 02/23/2005
Even though she may have a solid grounding in acting technique, I find her very blank and lacking in charisma. I.e she has no star quality. To those people who marked this review down. Clearly you have neither good taste nor common sense. The woman is a total ham.
SkAtEr GiRL 01/21/2005
She is soooo awsome, one os the worlds leading ladies she is one of the most popular even still.
edt4 01/14/2005
When she first became prominent, I thought she was an overhyped nothing who excelled at exotic accents. That was until I saw her in Sophie's Choice. It was a breathtaking performance. I've seen nothing to match it since then but, to be fair, Hollywood seems less and less concerned about producing films that have any artistic merit (or any merit period). It's reassuring to know she's still around, and still working. I think Meryl is what someone like Julia Roberts wants to be. Good luck.

Wonderful, one of my favourites.
