He was great in edward scissorhands. He is very talented but I have NOT seen his latest films,but they seem to be raking in big bucks.

I think very little of Depp and anyone else who, like him, wants to see three convicted child murderers let out of prison. I never cared for him as an actor and think he is a bizzare immoral freak. I put him on the same level as Michael Jackson. It's too bad so many people make heroes out of low lifes like this.

I'm of two minds with this guy. I've seen him in stuff where I thought he was brilliant (Jim Jarmusch's "Dead Man" for example) and in a lot more stuff where I thought he wasn't worth a bucket of cold urine (all of the Pirates of the Caribbean films.) I'll stick with three stars, because its seems clear that he can act, but he often chooses not to.

Example for those of us still unsure about how to make a topical review... I've seen plenty of Johnny Depp films that I've liked, but there is something that puts me off about him. Its almost like he's convinced of his own genius, and that's a setup for some "what the hell was that?" movie experiences because Depp gets caught up... in himself. It can make for brilliant and downright confusing work out of him as an ACTOR. (current, even)

He's a good actor, but not a great one. Not at Tom Hanks level in acting. He plays such weird characters in a lot his movies and is totally overrated in looks.

If there was something worse than terrible that would be him. I HATE HIM. I think he is one of the worse actors of ALL time. There was 1, and only 1 movie i ever sorta liked him in and that was Edward Siccor Hands. He sucks

I'm with DappleApple on this one... Johnny Depp may be a decent actor who'd top a Most Dark & Mysterious list thanks to his many gloomy and grim collaborations with Tim Burton, but at 20 years my senior, I don't find him hot, attractive or any synonym thereof. Then again, while some girls my age drooled over David Bowie in Labyrinth I had only nightmares about the Goblin King after seeing this film at the tender age of 11, so his tabloid-esque OMG-HOT status is probably safe without my vote.

He's not my type*, but 90% of the women I know (and 10% of the men) think he's the hottest actor since James Dean, so who am I to argue? * I think he's pretty cool tho.

I'd like to start this by saying that I love Johnny Depp. He is one of my favorite actors of all time. He becomes all his roles. I love him to death, and in that he is an incredibly attractive person. Physically...first of all that isn't a very attractive picture at all. He looks good for his age. But he isn't OMG GORGEOUS. He looks like a fairly normal guy to me (when he's not in make up anyway). And I would much rather think of him as a normal guy instead of a pin-up, masked Hollywood superstar.

He is very interesting! I like the idea that he is unlike many actors out there. His choice of roles is always surprising, yet almost always works out for him

Johnny Depp is amazing. He can transform from a nonspoken, queer figure of Edward Scissorhands to a rowdy pirate named Jack Sparrow. He is funny and is outstanding when acting. Possibly the best actor--ever!

He is handsome I'll give you that. He is far from the most attractive though. To me, he just isn't all that as some like to think. The most attractive thing about him is his voice.

Johnny Depp does tend to go towards being a "method actor." That gaunt face, the weird body language, the slightly lilting accent. But despite all that, he is one that I love watching. The first movie I vividly remember seeing him in was Edward Scissorhands. He made me so sad in that movie! He has this sweet side in films, kind of a look of ethereal innocence, even though he is a grown man. I feel that he really puts himself into his characters. For this generation, he will probably always be known as Captain Jack Sparrow...which is not a bad thing. But my favorite role of his thus far was surprisingly enough, Sweeney Todd. It was such a pleasant surprise to find out he could sing! Together with Tim Burton, he brought a daft yet ghastly endearing serial killer. Dark Comic genius.

Lol where to start. he's short, looks like a pirate even when not playing Jack sparrow, he's boring, not got any muscles, his hair looks like it needs a wash, and oh yeah he's boring. Love him, great timing, great sense of humour and ability to be self-deprecating at times.  He's picked some great movies and each character comes to life.. I really can't imagine anyone else playing some of the roles he's played.  By the way, I love Jack and he and Elizabeth should have been together :)

He may be the greatest maverick the movie business has seen since Brando.  Carefully selecting idosyncratic roles that play to his strengths and avoiding the sort of formula blockbuster fare that sank Nicholas Cage's credibility (who would have anticipated that a pirate movie would turn into the biggest franchise of this century).  His body of work is already one of the most impressive in recent history and he is at best only halfway through his career and his association with tim Burton has been some of the best work of both of them.  He's kept out of trouble, out of the tabloids, and off of the cutting room floor.  While he may not be conventional, he's become highly bankable without sacrificing any originality.

A chameleon. I would probably not recognised him if I do not know that he is in the film.

This greasy-looking, scrawny little runt is about the most talentless and unconvincing actor out there these days. He was limp in "Cry Baby," did absolutely nothing in "Chocolate," did little more than be a human cartoon in "Edward Scissorhands," was so embarassingly bad in "Fear and Loathing" that I cringed every time he came on camera, demonstrated in the Kerouac documentary he was in that he hasn't a clue as to reading action poetry, and when I saw him in a flick on TV one night I couldn't tell if he was playing a CIA agent or shoe salesman. The only performance of his that I thought was any good was in "Ed Wood," and he was even lacking in that. But, I guess he appeals to dimwitted chicks who go for greasy-looking, scrawny little runty types, so, he gets work.

There's almost nothing to criticize about Johnny Depp. Great range of acting, always perform above the expectation for his roles no matter if he is a wacko, or just a boring character (with the exception of Nick of Time, terrible movie). His good look is also a plus although that worked against him in the beginning of his acting career, but with insistency, he's come to proved that he's not just another pretty face. 20 years ago, he was voted as the sexiest man in Hollywood, girls screaming wherever he went. 20 years later, he is still the sexiest man alive according to many and he gets my vote hands down. He is definitely one of the luckiest celebrities who managed to defy time. Bravo to Depp and thanks to many years of maturing has cleaned up his act as well.
