Used to be an excellent actor, but in roles subsequent to Scent of a Woman he shouts his lines rather than says them with dramatic effect. Compare his performance in the first two Godfathers with his performances now. Whatever he had back then he's now lost.
jgls 02/16/2009
I liked his early work better. Since Scent of a Woman he sounds like Foghorn Leghorn. He seems to have forgotten subtlety.
Ross-249 01/26/2009
he has too many films to pick from there all good
caroline112 12/29/2008

great!
Moosekarloff 10/13/2008
One of the most overrated actors to perform in front of a camera. Is capable of displaying exactly two emotions, namely, insolence and anger. Half of the time he's totally over the top, shouting rather than delivering his lines, and the other half, moping about, inaudible. It's like watching a manic depressive go through his antics. Furthermore, he's always playing tough guys, but, when you consider what a sawed-off, shrimpy little dwarf he is, that macho posturing strikes one as absurd and unconvincing.

A good actor, but can be kind of annoying
Petr4 04/27/2008
One off the best actors ever. Last years made "easy" movies only for the money...but i forgive him,how to blame the super talent actor of "Godfather","Donnie Brasco" ,"Justice for all","Heat"." Scarface" amd may more diamonds. Thanks Al.
Musicfan19 04/09/2008
Ew! I don't know what it is but I really can't stand him.
hanghanglee 04/08/2008
Horrible over-acting yeller actor.Period.
trebon1038 04/02/2008
Like DeNiro, he is a little stereotyped but I love him anyways. He gives me chills as a bad guy and in other more laid back roles, I always root for him
TeresaG 03/09/2008
While I love the majority of his movies, I think it is a stretch to say that he has a "wide range" of characters. ..And Justice For All was probably one of the few I saw him take an EXTREME turn from his usual stereotypical "mobster/bad guy" role. Even in The Recruit ~ while being a CIA agent, he still had the unlikable quality that is Pacino. Bottom line ~ he is awesome, I love him, but he is, and always will be ~ more preferred in the gangster roles.
Strijdom 03/08/2008
Wonderful actor who I believe is able to momentarily believe with certainty that he is actually the person he is playing, disconnecting reality and fantasy.
theman2992 03/08/2008
the most greatest actor ever. all movies are excellent.

Should Be #1...Al Pacino is by far the greatest actor going. He Encapsulates any role which he takes on and simply IS that role. Nothing More needs to be said. AL PACINO

This mans just a living legend if there ever was one. Second to nobody in the acting world he's just.... you know what? forget it! Its not he's not worth a review he just really doesn't need one his legacy does that for him so he doesn't need a another review from another crazed fan but I'm sure he appreciates it though. He's the only man to nearly upstage Marlon Brando (and that was his first major film!) now a days he wouldn't even struggle if he was still alive (by the way no offence to Brando he's another god of acting just not the top dog) he can upstage anyone anywhere even the great De' Niro. His best performances include Scarface, Godfather 1-3, Dog Day Afternoon, Serpico and the list just goes on.
GenghisTheHun 03/15/2007
He has had some clunkers as well as as great items. That knocks him down to a four.
Conservatism 03/15/2007
One of the greatest actors of our time. Favortie movies include "Scarface" and "The Godfather Trilogy"
Divinegrace 11/19/2006
what you can see is the same actor behind the character, not the character being depicted
dracula 11/01/2006
good actor with a might prefomance
Jeremy00081 09/12/2006
I think Pacino is a little overrated, but he's great at what he does. His presence is not to be ignored on the screen...his dynamite personality reminds me of De Niro. He's sometimes a little too melodramatic for my taste, that's why he didn't get a perfect 5 from me.
NOLApro 09/05/2006
Still the greatest!
tiggerandcogs 08/04/2006
Pacino is a living legend. Enjoy his while you can.
alomewandsam 08/04/2006
And Justice for All was awesome, not to mention a few others. Sure, he has had his share of "clunkers" but Tinsel Town does not make them like Pacino anymore....geez...who do we have today? Oh yea, Britney Spears!
kissmeback 06/24/2006
a very good actor,i must addmit.
leftfinger 05/15/2006
A legend. Can and has proven he play a wide range of characters (Scarface to Scent of a Woman).
DoorGunner 05/01/2006
His best movie ever was "Serpico," and it's been downhill ever since. Highly over-rated.
delbomber 03/13/2006
One of the all-times greats, he has sadly resorted to playing caricatures of his former self. It all started with his over-the-top performance in 'Scent of a Woman' and it's been all downhill since. Fortunately, for a ten year period and few instances since he provided some of the greatest performances I've ever seen...'Serpico', 'Dog Day Afternoon', of course 'Godfather' and 'Godfather II', 'Sea of Love' and 'Carlito's Way' are among his best. His transformation from righteous war-hero to cold-blooded Don over the course of the first 6 hours of 'Godfather' movies is devastating and incomparable, and is enough to forgive any indulgences (and paychecks) we may have had the misfortune of watching the past few years.
Delia 02/10/2006
Although he did some terrible movies (see Simone), Al Pacino is one of those actors that kinda makes you forget that the screenplay has no sense at all. He has a certain magic that completes each one of his roles, he has charisma although he is not good looking, he knows how to blend in, he knows how to get your attention. You can hate Al Pacino or you can love him, but you cannot be indifferent, and that is the best quality that an actor could have.
robrate 02/01/2006
This man is a legend to his peers and is the best actor Hollywood has ever had!
Gromit 01/16/2006
Al Pacino is an acting LEGEND! His acting ability will be remembered LONG AFTER he is gone. His ability to place himself within his role and character is flawless. You can FEEL the sincerity and energy oozing off the movie theatre screen. I LOVE his accent and inflection, as well. Just a PHENOMENAL actor in EVERY respect!
Empress Scorpio 01/04/2006
First understand that I am in my mid-20s and because of this fact, I cannot rate him so high. Why? Because now when I see any of his films, it does not seem as though he is acting at all. It seems like roles are being written precisely for AL PACINO and all he has to do is to go in and do what he is does best over and over again. I merely see two sides of him; the abrasive, weathered man or the abrasive, weathered man who is now vulnerable because he has been caught, dubbed or unseated. I will say that he does play the hell out of these particular roles. But I can't help but wonder how hard it has to be when the roles are those that doesn't seem to want you to change anything about yourself...just tweak it a little.
ma duron 01/02/2006
A very remarkable career. It would be so easy to acknowledge his stature by excluding the few occasions when, for whatever reason, his vehicles or performances were less than sterling ('Cruising'; 'Bobby Deerfield'; '...And Justice for All'; 'Dick Tracy'; 'The Recruit'; and, yes, his comic - misplaced? offensive? - pseudo-Cuban caricature of an accent in 'Scarface', I fear), but there is pleasure in recalling his outstanding contributions to: 'Serpico'; 'Dog Day Afternoon'; 'Godfathers 1-3'; 'Glengarry Glen Ross'; 'Donnie Brasco'; 'Carlito's Way'; 'Insider'; 'Sea of Love'; 'Heat'; 'The Merchant of Venice'.
Caveat 12/24/2005
Great leading actor; a classic. Kudos to his performance in Serpico.
