You say "talking out of your ass", I say "great comedian".

Plays to the lowest common denominator, not at all funny unless you like brainless slapstick and potty humor.

what can i say?

I saw Jim Carrey as a stand-up comic when I was in university in the early 80's and he was hilarious. His early film performances had the subtlty of a jack hammer getting all of his laughs with blunt force. I found him grating and tiresome. But he has very successfully matured into a decent actor, fine tuning his comic gifts and becoming a seemingly natural dramatic performer. I saw Man on the Moon for the first time the other day. He was brilliant as Andy.
Spike65 06/20/2008
Great in small doses or when the director can reign him in. He was very good in The Truman Show, Liar Liar, and Bruce Almighty. Dumb and Dumber is a guilty pleasure. Ace Ventura was like he attended the Jerry Lewis school of comedic acting.
theman2992 03/08/2008
Jim Carrey can do anything with acting. He was so great in The Majestic. And acting like a fool in his comedys. He's also a one of a kind.
fb696698308 01/12/2008
hes screwd up but he had a few good movies
planetcop 07/26/2007
As an actor character with the film me myself and irene, he, as an character has his head like firmly stuck fast in his rear! hahahahaaa
Gurumoorthy 11/29/2006
Jim Carrey is one of the best comedian heroes the world ever had. It's always difficult to combine heroism with comedy.Only skilled actors have this potential.Watch him in ACE VENTURA, LIAR LIAR LIAR, BRUCE ALMIGHTY.No soul can escape a laugh or atleast a giggle. What is very special about him is that he makes even the most boring scene enthralling by his funny boyish pranks.I used to wonder whether he had a mask instead of his face especially when he makes funny faces.Hope he performs more enthralling roles in the future.
Jeremy00081 09/15/2006
Carrey is probably my favorite actor, but he should stick to comedy. Wacky comedy. He's too funny to try to do SO MANY serious roles. A few are OK...he's not bad at it. But this guy is a comedian. He should stick to what made him famous. I'm a shameless fan of the "Ace Ventura" films, "Liar Liar", etc.

There have never been and never will be anyone as unique as Jim Carrey. He's extremely gifted. If you deny that fact, you simply have never seen any of his work, not necessairly comedies but other stuff like stand ups and especially In Living Color. He's one of the very few people who can do that kind of stuff with their body and face and just for that reason he deserves a great worship. What he can do is almost impossible! Not to mention his acting ability. Check out Man on the moon and ESOTM and you find out by yourself. He's great in every way. That's a fact.Cheers! :)
shroomy soup 06/25/2006
Apparently, this guy can be serious sometimes. Carrey can do both comedies and dramas very well. His newer comedies aren't what I expect from him, but the dramas have been great. The Truman Show, The Majestic, Lemony Snicket's, and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind are all excellent and sometimes even moving. I highly recommend Eternal Sunshine. It's probably the greatest work he has ever done.
Delia 02/10/2006
The movie that impressed me the most was "The Truman Show". It was the first movie where he did no funny faces and frankly I didn't think he could do it. But he did. And another outstanding performance was in "The Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind", where I was surprised to see a mature in more ways than one Jim Carrey, I was surprised to see Jim Carrey the magnificent actor, not Jim Carrey the comedian.
JeffSipes13 01/11/2006
Jim Carrey is a great actor and a funny guy, hope to see him in some more serious roles someday.
disneychannel_ fan12 01/01/2006
Jim Carrey is pretty funny in his movies. I really liked Bruce Almighty.
sfalconer 09/13/2005
Jim is Brilliant his best performances have been Man on the Moon and Liar Liar. I did not care for the Pet Detective movies because they were moronic. Jim was Andy Kuaffman, it was like Jim was channeling Andy, he should have got an Oscar for this performance.
goldilocks 09/12/2005
He seems like he has something to prove and might not be playing with a full deck offscreen. He can be over the top in most of his stuff, but maybe that is what the characters call for. I was impressed with Etern. Sun. Spot. Mind. For the most part, I've enjoyed his films.... just a bit over the top... that's what we've come to expect I suppose. He's okay.
Twitchin' Monkey 09/06/2005
I'll admit the cartoony-ness can get a little old at times, but i could watch dumb and dumber everyday for the rest of my life and still laugh my butt off. i really like his roles where he's a more normal guy. bruce almighty was hilarious, while at the same time limiting jim's tendancy to fall back into a mask-like character.
Angel_Eeyore 08/30/2005
He started out as funny, cartoony, and whimsical but now I just find him annoying. I applaud him for getting where he is and the he is Canadian...that's awesome.
JonTheMan 07/20/2005
In my humble opinion, the cardinal sin for a lead actor to commit is to give a half-arsed performance. This subconsciously effects all the other actors and drags the whole performance down into a turgid swamp of blandness. However, this cardinal sin is something Carrey could never be accused of. Carrey lends an infectious and, some would say, slightly insane, energy to all his movies. This pulsating, crazed energy, far from being a hindrance, is entirely apt for the parts he plays. Who else could play his role in a film like Liar Liar where Carrey plays, to perfection, the part of a pathological liar driven insane by a truth-inducing curse? Who else could play his part in The Cable Guy, where Carrey ably portrays a TV-reared psychopath whose knowledge of life was garnered by watching exaggerated caricatures of it? Who else could be Ace Ventura, a man who's wild and animalistic in his ways because he relates better to beasts than humans? Who else could be Jim Carrey? For many, overacting is an unfortunate affliction; for Carey, it's an art form.
kattwoman 05/19/2005
he seems to give every role he plays such unique personalities. nobody but jim carrey could have played his parts
dweedumont 04/04/2005
I used to think that Jim was just an occasionally funny ok-ish actor but since I saw Eternal Sunshine... I've really grown to like him. It was a brillant performance and I hope he makes more movies like this.
Djahuti 03/30/2005
Annoying and spastic.
Maomania 03/02/2005
This guy is a mystery to me. I guess you really have to understand his humor to like him. I don't like his humor at all. He is pretty much the same kind of person in every movie, same emotions, same facial expressions...everything. And it's so sad. He was in some promising movies (Truman Show, Bruce Almighty etc)and I enjoyed everything in the movie but him. I don't like him as an actor or as a person. He is way too much in love with himself.
dpostoskie 02/04/2005
In a world of his own, no peers in visual comedy.
CherrySoda99 01/25/2005
Jim is my all time favourite comedian/actor. Not y favourite actor in general, but comedy wise,he's got the title. I just saw A Series of Unfortunate Events, and while it wasn't his best performance, it was still hilarious. Probaly my favourite movie of his would be The Grinch, and I know it's corny, but I still laugh every time!
edt4 01/20/2005
Very talented and, to me at least, funny guy, but one of those comedians that you either really like or really don't. It's hard to imagine anyone has ambivalent feelings about him. To me, he has the rare ability to make films that, on their own, are quite unfunny (like Ace Ventura) funny.
Wavebacker 12/11/2004
Enormously talented and extremely funny. When he does a great movie - Like Bruce Almighty, he shines. A really nutty guy ( like Robin Williams) who, when he plays to his strengths, is one of the best around.
ocsquishy 12/11/2004
I love Jim Carrey. I can't think of one single movie of his that i didn't like.
WANG MASTER 12/02/2004
HE STINKS AINT'' FUNNY.
noskcaj 11/24/2004
Goes over the top in the serious films. He can be a serious actor but is trying a little to hard and the films or no very good to start with. What do I know? I like the Cable Guy. If you watch it, watch it as an insane guy and not a comedy. Then it is ok.
Captwinky5 11/10/2004
Jim is very funny. Dumb and Dumber being one of his best movies. I Dont think he should make any more drama type movies though. He is a good actor but he is a better comedian
joefly69 10/28/2004
Hes a great actor and has the talent to do different types of films not just comedy
dragonman 09/26/2004
He's a great actor no denying it and is still funny but he seriously should do another Ace Ventura movie before he get's too old, I miss the totally crazy Jim Carrey movies he did before. He shouldn't just do dramatic roles.
ranoffroad 09/25/2004
Jim Carrey is one of the funniest actors in the business! I have followed him since his In Living Color days and he has blossomed into a very successful actor! I still think that Liar Liar is his funniest movie. The Ace Ventura movies were hilarious, though the second one was better. He's had some misses, especially some stabs at drama, but that's bound to happen. He can turn the dumbest, lamest movies or scripts into some funny stuff. Comedy is what he's best at; it'll be a long time before he branches out to drama or something more serious. Carrey's facial expressions have me laughing too. He will be a face to watch for many years to come!
1JohnDoeFan 08/26/2004
One of my favorite actors, he makes me laugh non-stop. I also liked him in In Living Color.
BBoop 08/10/2004
He is about 3 feet deep when it comes to serious emotional acting, but this man can make me and my whole family laugh like no other actor ever has. Except for The Cable Guy. Too bad he is so messed up inside.
SeanmanLynch 07/03/2004
He is just the best actor ever. He can make a dumb movie really funny. Like the Cable Guy. The script was horrible, but I gave that movie Four and a half stars
trevor3 06/04/2004
one of the very best-dumb and dumber is possibly the funniest movie i have seen largely due to his acting. Cable Guy although a box office flop, was also hilarious. Proved unequivocally his versatility with his role in the Truman Show
ANSGARD 06/04/2004
this guy never makes me laugh...and is he a comic? I think he is pathetic
Solenoid DH 06/01/2004
He's a perfect portrait of the word overbearing.
BlairWitch187 05/30/2004
Jim Carrey is one of my favorite actors of all time. He is so hilarious!! Liar Liar is the funniest movie.
coolpeeps 05/15/2004
this guy is hilarious!
MeTalhed 05/08/2004
Jim Carrey is one of the funniest bastards I have ever seen. Dumb and Dumber is one of the funniest movies ever made. What also makes Jim so talented is while no one can do comedy like he can, he can play roles as in The Truman Show and Man on the Moon. What an actor.
JJBurns84 03/27/2004
Every movie he's ever done has annoyed me, except for The Truman Show. I really think he should do drama; his comedy repulses me.
kolby1973 02/07/2004
I think Jim Carrey is possibly one of the most talented comedians today. In the majority of his movies, he makes me laugh from beginning to end. He deserves an Oscar if you ask me. The only reason why I gave him a 4 instead of a 5 is because of that nightmare he had to have accidentally starred in called DUMB AND DUMBER. What was he thinking? And that goes for Jeff Daniels too ! What were you guys thinking?
Mmathers 02/06/2004
!!!!!!!best comedy actor every no one will ever do the things he has done for us as an actor.so dont stop!!!!!!!!!!11
a1mc 11/24/2003
Great as a funny man.
jhenrie 10/31/2003
I think he's hilarious, but not all that great of an actor. A fabulous comedian, though!
ramster 10/21/2003
He's really worn out, way too repetative for me. The less i see of him the better, Jim buddy- you're days of comedy as over.
