I haven't seen any cuts in military spending thus far. I have seen an escalation of conflict in South Asia along with an aggressive resumption of great power politics in that region also, with our badgering of Iran.To Obama's credit however, he is showing some prudence on the question of whether we should commit more troops to Afghanistan. The problem is that he's focusing on merely managing the problem rather than extracting the country from it. His current strategy won't hack it in the long term, but at least he's questioning the notion that we should escalate the conflict. Furthermore, the budget that Obama wants to pass contains significant increases in military spending; especially for new weapons systems and hardware. I tend to think that part of the administration's reasoning is that such spending is a form of economic stimulus. Guns and butter however is not a feasible economic development strategy in the long term. I think the opposition Republicans had Obama completely misread. The guy advocates cutting Social Security and Medicare for old folks, yet pushes for spending programs that benefit the large financial institutions, military contractors, and the health insurance lobby, whom he has bent over backwards to demonstrate support for. Sounds like a continuation of George W. Bush to me, only this time without the "we'll get 'em dead or alive" rhetoric.

I think Barney Frank spoke for B. Hussein and most of the left when he said we need military spending cut by as much as 25%!!! Look at what Clinton did to dismantle our military and he wasn't half as liberal as B. Hussein.

The Pentagon is a wasteful, poorly managed bureacracy that's been overfunded for decades. There's a half dozen ways to immediately streamline the operations of that bloated, inefficient mess to save the taxpayers tens of billions of dollars every year while simulatenously improving deployment capabilities. It's time to totally rethink our military's 21st Century mission, its structure and culture. Let's give the taxpayers more bang for their buck and rein in those free-spending warmongers.

numbah16 You know what will greatly reduce the amount of Americans coming off of battlefields in bodybags? Not fighting senseless wars in countries we don't belong in. We spend way too much on the military while our schools and hospitals are floundering.

Slowing of the development of future combat systems. Learn that phrase. Its going to happen and it will mean more bodybags when we take to the battlefield. UPDATE: I don't think I'd characterize my friends dying as funny, but I guess humor is subjective.
