Overly enthusiastic, but usually on point. Cannot pronounce letter "B" without biting his lip so he spritzes a bit. A tough interviewer but usually defferential save for the venemous Michele Malkin, whose facist agenda he pilloried after losing patience with her idiocy. Rises too often to the bate. Also he's in love with his own analogies and seeks constant affirmation from his guests. He might curtail that a bit.

Poor Chris was destroyed tonight on the Daily Show. There may be hope for us after all.  Please let it be so.

I haven't figured out how to do less than one star but Matthew's is the perfect candidate for that. Chris is rude, ignorant and self-serving. He also has a serious  problem with women; he either demoralizes or demonizes them by commenting inappropriately on their looks, dress and demeanor. He needs to get a grip on that little sexist problem he has.

Plain dumb and very biased

Even though I'm conservative I used to watch Hairball, but no longer. Matthews' shrill anti-Bush rantings get old day after day. He thinks Karl Rove is the devil and rules the world... He's a nut job and another MSNBC is in the basement.

Again, not enough negative stars.

First, he's a liar.  He cannot WAIT to puff himself up with little unchecked lies like "I was against this war from the beginning."  Tons and tons of examples of his lame-ego puff-up sessions of self-aggrandizement to name here.  His producer should tell him that there now exists something called "news archives" and that anyone with a computer can investigate his lame, lying assertions.

His most recent make-the-viewer-gasp-from-an-idiotic-statement session was with felon Tom Delay, fresh off the stand with his criminal sentence.

The very day Delay was sentenced, Matthews said: 

Matthews:  [to Tom Delay THE CRIMINAL] "I owe you one."

Delay:  [faking humility] "No you d..."

Matthews:  [semper interruptus] "No, I owe you two."

Owes Delay two of WHAT, pray tell?  And why would you EVER get caught on national TV telling the Tony Soprano of The House that you owed him anything?  Does Chris think that Delay won't somehow use that to his advantage?  I can't believe people don't view him as anything more than an undeservingly high-paid Punchinello of the News Conglomerate.

Bloviator, liar, a guy who--like Larry King--has appointed himself as Voyeur Maximus, detached from the thrall, exhibiting the same great glee, including drooling on his chin, in the PROCESS of politics, instead of its consequences.

Making idiotic comments about people--"Romney's got a great chin [guest begins to respond to his original question, which Chris has apparently tired of]; he's got a great chin and great hair, he's got the hair."  Or, after John Boehner commented about a Republican position on the Iraq Invasion, "we'll be back for more later...you can see the greatness in this man."

Is it POSSIBLE that Chris Matthews intentionally misses the lithium dose just before his show ever DAY?  He and his program needs to get flushed, and every day he doesn't convinces me the MSNBC endorses the clown prince's escapades.

What escapes me is how so many FINE guests put up with his narcissistic  manner, his irritating interruptions, and keep returning for more of the same.  Who're the bigger idiots?

Listen-up, Miss Chris: Rudy's Presidential aspirations are NEVER going to live past EVEN ONE southern GOP primary! GET OVER IT! The GOP is NOT going to let their candidate be pro-gun control, pro-choice or pro-gay rights. They'll vote for HILLARY first, you dolt. On the other hand, quit talkin' shit and go put your money where your sizeable mouth is and PLACE A BET! Never heard of Las Vegas? You Putz?

I like Chris and his show. When I first started watching him, his uneven speaking style (frequent breaths and unusual pauses) annoyed me, but I have gotten used to it. I think he asks good questions, is relatively unbiased, and makes just enough personal asides to make it interesting. He does interrupt his guests too much sometimes.

chris's show is outstanding

This guy is one of the most annoying personalities on TV. A blowhard, so over the top. Sometimes, I flip to MSNBC, and I'll see that he has a good guest on from time to time but I cannot keep watching for longer than a few seconds when this guy starts flapping his gums. Thinks he's a bad ass, but he sucks.

I love him even when he is irritating. I love it more when a slow interview is going on and they switch the camera catching him rolling his eyes. Great questions. He got screwed by the white house so he only has so so guests. Any of the ones that you would like him to nail won't come on the show because they are too scared. Go Chris.

Probably has a mirror mounted inside his toilet so he can marvel at himself. If I wanted a rabid dog in my back yard to infect trespassers, he'd be my dog. Why can't this guy's job get outsourced to India.

don't quite like him as much as i used to. watched him forever. he spends too much time stereotyping anyone he can. i guess that's politics.. i find he feeds the lowest common denominator at times. that said, when he's at his best it's a wonderful thing to watch. he's a true journalist, just a little mushy sometimes. march 2005 update: his show has become unwatchable. it's no longer hardball and it sucks. very sad to say..

As others have said, not only is he a jerk and an a-hole, he seems to get really excited when he subtley sideswipes Republicans and Bush. A lot of people don't see the bias, but I do...typical liberal windbag that uses the media to influence the ignorant.

Chris Matthews does a good job. He does yell a lot, but he does ask tough questions and no, he is not biased like so many others. He trashes both sides.

Seems to have toned it down a bit since Zell Miller spanked his fanny. Still, fun to watch except for his incessant interrupting and annoying habit of RAISING HIS VOICE AT PEOPLE TO GET HIS POINT ACROSS!

Excellent at putting people on the spot. Pretty moderate with a slight lean to the left, but not so bad as for it to be completely unnecessary. One of the best in the business.

She put it out there but being a real conservative would not say if that is her view. well people have said this That is what neo-cons like foxnews say when they want a quote out there but can later walk away from it and say i didn't say that. I said some people say. Now that is real journalism. Some people say KentuckyDem isn't a dem. I didn't say that. Some people said it. Who are they? Them. Zell also got mad when Matthews point out that Bush himself called us occupiers 3 or 4 times. Zell is so dumb him and matthew should do a show together.

Partisan hack job. No integrity, can't interview, demand answers or report in any shape or fashion that isn't biased. Think he is still looking for a job inside the White House. Lips firmly planted on the RNC's collective butts. Note to Matthews - yelling does not equate information. Just because one side of a discussion gets louder than the other makes the information anymore valid or real. Go back home and take a high school Civics class before returning to the air. His show would be more enjoyable to watch had he not been so biased. His leftward slant is so obvious. He also needs to let his guest speak rather than interrupting them so much.

I used to like him - but he has become so biased I can't stand him! There are times when he is bashing Bush Supporters that he has a downright hateful look in his eyes! Take him off the air!

I think Chris Matthews is great. Talks fast, straight to the point and fair.

Talks too fast, is too abrasive, needs to learn to stop name-dropping (the average wouldn't have heard of half the people he talks about) and learn to adjust his delivery to fit the story (i.e. his obnoxious coverage during the Reagan funeral).

Blabberpus. Somedays he looks like he just got out of bed. Too wishy-washy. I use to watch his a lot but now only occasionally. Fineman is not an asset.

I had always thought he was a political pro until he hired Ron Reagan to be a political analyst. Hello??? What is his pedigree to be an analyst? If they wanted a ballerina, why not Gelsey Kirkland? If they wanted a college dropout, there's Michael Moore. If they wanted a president's child, Chip Carter would have been a better choice- more telegenic!

Compared to the goons from Fox he is almost the perfect host.

Gets all warm and fuzzy when a fellow traveler (i.e. communist) is on the show with him. Has coronaries when conservatives are anywhere within 5 yards of him.

Two years ago, I would've given him a five. However, it's become apparent that he's receiving DNC talking points on a daily basis. He bashes Bush constantly and I'd estimate 75% of his guests do the same. Chris has a virtual orgasm on the air whenever he reports a poll in which Kerry is ahead (about 10 times per show), but I haven't seen many reports about Bush taking the lead again in the past few weeks. He sits Richard Clarke down for an hour and tosses him nothing but softballs? C'mon Chris, how about some balance? After inviting 5 or 6 family members who had loved ones killed in 911, all of whom dislike Bush, Chris finally invites a family member who supports Bush. Of course, Chris questions the family member very harshly and even questions his motives. After that sickening display of partisanship, Matthews was off my TV for good. UPDATE: I caught some of Matthews' coverage of the Reagan funeral and will bump his rating up a bit. The man clearly has always admired Reagan even though they were on opposite ends politically.
