Part of what makes a law a good law is that it can be enforced. I don't see how you could enforce this.

GO AHEAD CBS! I DARE YOU! I absolutely dare you to try and enforce this! I know I can't read minds. Can you read minds? Two people don't have to say they are alligned to be alligned. An aliance is largely a mental thing between any number of people. And even if you somehow manage to enforce this rule, good luck keeping your ratings up. Granted I do believe more emphasis does need to be placed on real danger and real survival aspects, but like Jeff Probst says: 'This is more than just a test of survival skills, it is also a test of social skills. Out here it is the impressions you make on the fellow castaways that determines your fate.'

Alliances are part of what makes the game so interesting. It would be hard to govern the outlawing of alliances.

-1. Survivor has become too predictable. 2. interesting personalities get voted off 3. The contestant should win because of skill and not alliances.
benfergy 02/02/2002
A good concept. After all, IMO the Ogakor alliance didn't really deserve to get the upper hand, but only did because they voted by party lines, so to speak. The problem with outlawing alliances is that they will develop anyway, underground.

Bad idea. I think players should be allowed to do whatever they liek to win--it is called Survivor, after all.

i think this is a perfect idea!!!! (too bad i did'nt think of it)

Alliances are all part of strategy and I'm looking forward to any alliances in Survivor II. Hey, when I'm on survivor I want to be the loner type with no allies, but when things get down to the nitty gritty I might be a little unpredictable with the people I choose as my buddies.
Maribeth 10/02/2000
That's not true survivor mentality. You want as many people as possible to survive.

Alliances are all about how Survivor works ... plus how could you enforce it ?!?
magellan 08/31/2000
This would be absolutely impossible to enforce, and would remove a vital aspect of strategy - the ability to form relationships with and / or manipulate people. An alliance could be made from an exchange of glances - how can you prevent that?
Munson 08/31/2000
My feelings about this change over time. At the beginning, I didn't like the alliances. I was concerned that if the alliance worked, I would be stuck watching the people who I didn't like. Well, that is what happened and it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I think that anything should go on the island. An alliance worked out this time, but it could just as easily had fallen apart had Sean decided not to vote for Jenna.
upchuck 08/31/2000
This is a great idea, any talk of alliance should be immediate grounds for banishment from the contest. I'm sure with the original Survivor series we were deprived of some interesting personalities that were voted off strictly because of an alliance...Of Course, that is just my opinion.
