I will greatly miss Van Earl's booming delivery and informative as well as light hearted commentating style. He's made tough years with the Kings a little easier and who could ever put down the guy that dubbed the Red Wings as "those who wear the winged wheel"? I hope VEW returns to the Kings soon. With Foxy, Miller, Scully and the late Chick Hearn, we've had some greats, Van Earl added to that.

I find him funny

to ven earl, the world was created for ven earl. he should be so lucky for half the world to love him as he loves himself!

The most annoying voice in radio! And he doesn't know dick about sports!
ccessna 03/01/2005
Bring back Tony! Van Earl has limited sports knowledge, is not funny, and just doesn't seem to have what it takes to make a great radio show.

A Freaking Zero. He is his own biggest fan. Get rid of him. The worse thing to happen to sports radio this year.
swiese1 01/20/2005
Nails on a chalkboard is less annoying. AND knows more about sports than this bafoon.
Radoncmatz 01/17/2005
he's all right, probably does a better job than I could do. but Bruno was much better. better voice, better presence, as or more knowledgeable, funny, etc. Fox did a dumb job of canning Bruno. Not just my opinion.

I cannot believe this goon has a job on national radio. He is so awfull it is embarrassing to listen to him. I feel bad for Andrew having to deal with this clown. He is witless, knowledgeless, and it is tiring to hear him flub every other line. I don't listen anymore and if I happen to land on that channel and I hear his voice I can't turn it off fast enough. Fox, what are you thinking-you have cheapened what was once a good show.
The Bone 01/07/2005
VEW is H0RRIBLE. Especially compared to Tony Bruno, who was outstanding. Hey FOX: cheaper isn't always less expensive.

This guy is BAD! Like many before me, it is a shame we can not give zero stars. Van Earl Wright has ruined a great show.........dump Van Earl Now!
bbison 11/09/2004
If zero stars were an option, I'd be all over it. This guy is the worst thing to happen to my commute since metering lights. Bring Back TONY BRUNO!!!

I guess when you sit in front of a teleprompter and deliver baritone auctioneer stylings it's almost tolerable. But on a 4 hour radio show where wit, insight and an ability to think on your feet are necessary, he fails miserably. Does anyone remember Ted Baxter?
SJSU 10/24/2004
Does anyone remember Joe Piscopo (sp?) on Saturday Night Live when he was the sportscaster on Weekend Update? Apparently, Wright saw that and decided that was the way to act. I'd call Wright a buffoon, but that would be an insult to buffoons.

It's a pity that negative numbers aren't allowed here - Van Earl Wright deserves it! Here is my favorite all-time quote about Van Earl Wright: I don't mind Madden, and Tim McCarver is one of my least favorite, but neither has anything on the local L.A. Fox Sports station. It features what has to be the most annoying man on TV: Van Earl Wright. I know I'm not alone in my sentiment... I can't watch ten seconds without wanting to commit hara-kiri with a dull kitchen knife. The linked article has a compelling theory to explain when and why sports news became so bad. (http://www.sportsfilter.com/comments.cfm/2389) About all I would add to that is, Ditto!

Fun to listen to.

I think Van Earl is GREAT. His energy and his humor are amazing. I think his "act" is a wonderful relief from sportscasters that take themselves too seriously.

The worst. So annonying.

Please go away.

After all these years I still can't figure out why he talks like that. I thought it was a joke the first time I heard it, but then he kept doing it.
gimoncy 12/11/2000
The first thing that comes top mind when I talk about Van Earl is energy. He brings this enthusiastic engergy to the studio, yelling the highlights, saying the names of players, and talking to his co-workers.
