Total homer for USC. Gut wrenching. Nauseating. I think he wants to sleep w/ Pete Carroll. I watched the 2009 Rose Bowl as just a college football fan and there were several times where I had to walk away from his creepy swooning over the Trojans (maybe their name reminds him of safe sex). Even after a few beers it was still painful. Actually, it just got worse. He's alright so long as he is not involved in a USC game. He reminds me of when Keith Jackson used to cover Michigan, he was such a homer for them. Again, very sickening.

Watched (listened to) him do the USC-PSU Rose Bowl last night. Absolutely the most phony, annoying, broadcaster. Reminds me of an unfunny chitchat talk show host. Unfortunately, Kirk Herbstreit is learning Brent's phony ways and will soon be infected with the same disease. (Would give Brent a zero if I could.)

He was great as host of NFL Today; it would fire me up for the games as they would show each stadium and Brent would say “you are looking live from….. “ Fill in your favorite stadium. I was always partial to RFK Stadium myself.

Musberger is the most annoying broadcaster in college football or any other sport. ABC, please get rid of him. I can't stand listening to him and he does all of your big games????? Why.... is there a less liked broadcaster out there besides Gumbel. Please, you are torturing me every time I try to watch one of the games he is doing. Anyone else, just not him...PLEASE!!!

I must say that it is sooo apparent when you are one-sided during a football game - in this case, Texas Tech and Oklahoma. It's amazing how sarcastic you can be when Texas Tech was over-run as they were by Oklahoma - and get this : I'm not even a Texas Tech fan actually. But how about focusing and actually TALKING something positive about Tech during the game ? Even if it's a completion of a first down ? You are very self-centered and extremely sarcastic and it would be nice if the "higher-ups" would re-think a decision as to who would commentate a game. Everyone saw how Oklahoma was defeating Texas Tech yet you could do NOTHING except continually rub that in. When Tech would even acquire a first down on a decent run, there wouldn't be even any commentating, both you and Mike would continue talking about the BCS, etc... What nerve you guys have.It isn't just this game that decides feelings abut you on your "job"... But myself and all of us out here - and there are many by the way, feel you should find other employment. So what your name happens to be musberger and you been around a while, yet so has your self-centered sarcasm.

This man is horrible. He is love with Penn. State and Papa Joe. He does not understand Texas football. He brings nothing to the party. By the end of this season he will be touting Penn. State for #1 team in football. He just loves to hear himself talk on TV about trivial BS. I do not watch any game he brodcast. He should hang it up and retire. The Bear.
convinced1972 10/23/2008
He's a Hack for the Big 10, PAC 10, and now apparently the Big 12
esolvent 10/23/2008
Musberger does a great job, right up there with Keith Jackson for great college football announcers. He has been doing broadcasting for a long time and his experience and versatility show through. He's truly a great announcer.

I am a fair weather Buckeye. So, I get victorious or surrenderous by the current years hype. Generally I rely on my dedicated friend/fans, then I confirm with the "expert" journalist of NCAA sports. The veteran Musberger and his puppet Herbie have become very irresponsible sport journalist. Please, excuse "Power tool" Buckeye Brother Herbie. His only crime is being a proud coanchor of Musberger. I was motivated to write my first sports anything, when herbie praised musberberger for having a handle on the future during OK v MO. Shocked by the fraudulent journalism ,sorry fraudulent is way to generous, this would suggest insipid to be calculated. So, shame on ESPN check signer guy. After you watch and listen to your incompetent blunderbuss anchor Brent Musspurger, You should Hand Sign the check while herbie shines your shoes.

Can;t stand him. Everything is so overdramatic with him. It's a game Brent call it and move on to the next one. I can see why CBS/FOX canned him, its a shame ABC/ESPN picked him up because he is garbage
raiderz 05/28/2007
Hates U-M. Therefore, gets to call the Michigan/Ohio State and sing the Buckeyes' praises the whole freakin' game. And gets to do the Rose Bowl against USC, and does the same thing all over again. Is this the best ABC/ESPN can get for big games like these? Don't even get me started on the GameDay crew...

I can't think, off the top of my head, of another sports announcer who makes so many irrelevant and frankly inscrutable remarks, but I'll give him another star for managing to hold on for all these years.
Wavebacker 01/24/2007
He's a great pro. He can call pretty much any event and does it with style , grace and professionalism. His enthuiasm is genuine and comes off well and he makes some good observations. A real pro and a great guy to listen to.
markji 01/10/2007
Be best advised to study his notes and at least learn the names of a couple of players on each team. Poorly prepared with essentially no insight into the nuances of any sport that he covers.
rsspencer 01/04/2006
Too many cliches. Loves to think he's being clever. States the obvious. Thinks everyone is his friend. Not funny at all.
gobolts 12/27/2005
Well, Brent has certainly been at it as long as anyone. He is past his prime no doubt, but is one of the best known sportscasters around. Some of his phrases and calls are a bit cornball from the Keith Jackson school, but Musberger will never be Keith Jackson- he just isn't as funny. And he keeps bringing up Northwestern, lol.
ellis 04/01/2005
Brent is a great announcer. He's always there for the great games (Game 5 1976 NBA Finals- Phoenix vs. Boston & Boston College vs. Miami), and he always makes great calls. I'd rather have someone actually in to the game rather than some loser like Bob Costas.
jpern24 11/29/2004
One of the best ever. Has an uncanny ability to enhance a game with his uniqueness. A real natural. And he still has it.
coleslough 06/18/2004
back to cbs................
Roach 04/06/2004
At one time Musberger was one of the best 70's and 80's, but recently he has turned into a annoying homer for every team that in winning and really brings Gary Danielson down with him.
BeanoCook 02/07/2004
All around excellent. Big game voice and still has energy to deliver college football. It seems that he always has some action on the game or all the games.
melott 01/26/2004
Not the best, but nobody has done more great games. Flutie's hail mary, 3-OT suns/celtics final, Neb/Mizzou '97 kicked ball (only guy who got the call right, both radio guys messed it up), Mariners/Yanks ALDS finale, I could go on for awhile, but if he's doing the game, odds are it will be a good one.
jgls 12/22/2003
started watching brent 30 years ago at wbbm in chicago and although he is not as great as he once was, he is one of the giants in tv broadcasting.
newswatcher 04/09/2003
Unlike Dick Stockton who, in my opinion, is still pretty sold and comprehensive, Musberger has lost it. He passes. He can call a game. But there's nothing there. I always feel like he'd rather be somewhere else. Especially while doing an NBA game. He was great doing those mid 80's C's/Laker games, but time has not been kind to Brent. He's soured on his job and I've soured on him.
FELZBACH 03/06/2003
The world's worst. If he calls me folks one more time, I am going to puke
CanadaSucks of NeverLand Ranch! 03/04/2003
Can't stand him. . .horrible on the radio. Too overly dramatic.
mprater 03/04/2003
In his prime, was terrific, but his time has passed, unfortunately
bjstrykker 01/04/2003
Gets to do all the best games, and he's a whiny wimp.
golderbj 12/02/2002
Miserable Miserable Miserable. The worst in college football. He must be porking someone important b/c he shouldn't be on the air anymore
PoorOldEdgarDe rby 08/30/2000
This is a hard one for me to rate because as an announcer I always thought he was pretty good but not great so for that I'm giving him a 3. The extra point is attributed to the fact that I went to high school with his son and there was this one time during gym class that some big oaf was picking on me for something (I probably stole his woman or something it's hard to remember). Anyway, Blake happened to hear the exchange we were having, stepped up and being an even bigger big guy promptly put this fellow into a head lock and made him apologize. I find this to be a very satisfying memory. Of course I wouldn't need this kind of assistance anymore...but in any case I think Brent deserves an extra point for his sons honorable actions.
Munson 04/08/2000
If I were giving this rating back when Brent was the top dog at CBS, he would have gotten a 1 or 2. But, now I think he does a solid job on college football for ABC. I still can't stand when he mentions how we should remember this play at the "10:15 mark".
Ruby 04/07/2000
OK he doesn't have a sense of humor about himself (or anything possibly) but my earliest sports memories were of Dr. J's 76ers of 1977; the intro music would be from Rocky; and Brent Musberger's voice would ring out over it all. Inspiring!!
