 | waltersdirtyundies (2) 09/28/2008 | My Basset is a very enjoyable fun dog to have around. though he does bark at everyone new who comes to my house and if you have heard there bark it is incrediblly loud. and they are surprisingly tall you have to be carefull where you put your food or he will jump up and eat your food.

 | oldduke (0) 08/10/2008 | A great exercise dog if you don't want to over do it. A 40 pound puppy. Perfect dog to have around when you don't want to do anything. Great chick magnet. A follower, not a leader; you are the boss and he/she likes it that way. I've had alsatians, borzoi's, bassets, and mutts, all were special. Bassets, though, are unique.

 | X Factor Z (15) 04/19/2006 | I am not really a dog lover, but I do like these dog, reminds me of "Flash". I do not like cutesy, "sissy" dogs. I like the hound dog noise these dogs make, a bark?, if you could call it that.

 | DumbBlondeCowgirl (23) 03/15/2006 | I love my basset hound. She can be a big pain in the patootie, but I can't fathom a sweeter, more gentle dog around my babies. It makes it all worth it. She's so cute, you can't stay mad.

 | lovslinky (0) 01/06/2006 | I love Basset Hounds!!! They are lovable, sweet animals! They are not hyper and are very good with kids! I don't know how anyone could call them ugly. They just have sad, cute faces!!! They originated in France in the 1800's, and a hunting dogs. They were bred to look the way they do for a reason.

 | pennyroyalty (4) 04/01/2004 | i love bassets! (i'm a HUGE hound lover, so totally biased). But there's something about their wrinky skin, their sweet nature and calm tempermant. I love their bark (but again, i gre up with three Beagles, so i'm used to the lovely trumpet of a hound dog!). My aunt had one when i was very small and didn't understand to leave animals alone. I remember that my brother and i practically tortured poor keisha with kisses and hugs and pets and we fought over her a million times, but she never bit at us, she never once got mean. She just sat (or lay) there with a calm look on her face and patiently waited through our attention so she could have a good nap.
the world needs more bassets!

 | CastleBee (85) 01/28/2002 | They probably think we look funny too. The difference between them and us though is they would never have the heart to say so – that is IF they thought it mattered. My personal impression is that basset hounds are very sweet tempered, easy going, and loving dogs. Yes, they’re short and stubby – just like my beautiful corgi! I recently met an adult and puppy at my vets office and both were very well mannered, adorable and were falling all over themselves to get my attention. A great dog for someone who enjoys a less active breed.

 | PoorOldEdgarDerby (4) 10/23/2000 | I considered getting a Basset Hound years ago when I stopped by the pound on a whim and they had one available. Having had a beagle as a boy this looked like a fairly similar but more goofy version of the breed. Well I ended up not getting it but I still think they're very nice dogs, very friendly, loving creatures they're just not quite active enough for my liking. I need a dog that wants to run, these things just look sort of pathetic when they waggle along at a comically slow speed with every part of their body shaking like a seal trying to flop itself back into the water from the shore.

 | d.fe440et (0) 04/22/2000 | Another unfortunate experiment in selective breeding. It is cruel to maintain breeds that are so painfully distorted.
