I have had my jack-rat for 6 1/2 years, he is crate trained, loyal, is not the yippy type lol....... He will lay on my lap for hours, granted he is 28 lbs and loves to go for car rides, long walks and goes with me everywhere...... I do live in an apt, he goes outside and roams around as i tend to the garden and plays in the huge yard huge yard, and loves the neighbor ladies and the kids across the street, and i work 3rd shift. He is there waiting on me in the am and ready to go out.......... then licks me to death for about 5 min every am. This the most affectionate dog i have ever owned. He most def has a mind of his own and can be stubborn at times but, he has never bitten anyone, he used to bark but that is under control. He only barks at the mail lady.......... and that is the only time.. so at mail time i just close the door and blinds and we are all good........ I must be lucky to have him because i dont have any problems with him..........

Evil, so evil I have no idea where to begin! I have a pug, and I am a hyper person, but I can't deal with these f$%K$%s! So when you put up a gate so they don't go in a room you want them to go in they either whine/cry (which is worse than a baby crying to me! - I have a young child and prefer two more kids than the two of these F$%k#$s..) They also will climb or jump over the gate like they are fleeing from the devil! Now my problem is, they aren't my dogs. I refuse to sleep with the little bastards ever again, and my soon to be fiance sometimes want to let the little F#$k#$s in the bed... that has to stop! Not only do you have to be consistent, you gotta take control or they will think it is still okay, and will ignore me and do what they want b/c they know they can b/c the other person is fine with it....grrrr... hate them, if you have like an acre of yard, hell 10 acres, fenced with 50 feet tall solid wood no crack fence, and leave them outside 24/7 then they would be fine to have.... Cute oh such a tough one to own. These dogs were intended to dig themselves into burroughs and help hunters corner animals untill they are dug out. They are very intelligent and an extreme flight risk in an open environment because of their digging abilities. These dogs require lots of attention and excersize otherwise they can become moody or tempermental leading to emotional disorders. If not properly trained or socialized they can become agressive towards other aniamals, people and children.

My JRT is very cute but sometimes I wonder that if I was sick or injured, would he bark for help...or eat me slowly, only to finish me off when my cries of anguish were to weak to amuse him anymore.

I hate these little fuckers! My girlfriend has one its about 5, she loves it to bits but i can't stand it (she sdon't know this)! Its yapp yapp yapping, constanly pushing itself between you when you hug etc sheds this most disgusting wirey white hair all over the show, and you can't get it outta your clothes for love nor money. Every where you go its fucking there craving attention and climbing and jumping all over you wantying you to throw a ball which it will just do all day long! It follows you around everywhere and even climbs on the kitchen tables and chairs. These things also climb and get on everything! I fucking hate them... sitting on the bedding, under the bedding on the fucking pillows with no remose whatsoever with its rotten little ass! You get in bed and its under the covers pushing all night between you and by your feet etc, and it makes the most horrid of smells, from its nasty little anus 'continually' and i mean continually! I swear these pathetic creatures must have ... Read more

I absolutely HATE Jack Russell Terriers. Today, I went to the dog park and this malicious JRT started attacking my dog. I put his leash on and tried to get him out but the stupid JRT kept attacking him so I picked my dog up and attempted to walk out. The JRT then started attacking ME and scratched up my leg. Now, both my legs are sore, red, and covered in scratches. What's worse is, the owner didn't even come to hold their stupid JRT back. I hate these dogs. They're ugly, they're annoying, and they're mean. Say what you want because it won't affect, this is the internet and people just seem to SPLURGE with confidence and say what they want on the internet, or blame the owners but- judging from almost 99% of the reviews- I think we can all agree that only "incompetent people" seem to own these stupid dogs: and it has just made me absolutely despise this breed. I, too, hope this breed rots in hell. Clearly, the owners don't know how to handle them. I really, really regret not kicking t... Read more

Absolute, worst dog ever! While attending an out of state work seminar, I got together with an old friend at his place to watch a NASCAR race and play cards. That was 7 hours of pure hell because his jack russell (sh*t) terrier constantly ran around the room, jumping on furniture, barking and biting my legs. I swear to god, I wanted to grab that thing by the throat and drown it in the toilet. My friend had to threaten the use of a bark (shock) collar at least 10 times, and actually put it on the dog twice. Furthermore, I currently live next to this a**h*le who owns a JRT. Long story short, I call the police once a month because that dog barks all the time. Actually, I'm afraid it's going to bite my kid someday because the stupid neighbors never put it on a leash when they're in the front lawn. This dog is extremely territorial, and when I brought this up to the stupid owners, they said, "That’s how all dogs act" and "Jack gets like that because he's little". For one, who names... Jack Russell terriers are really one of kind dogs, you will never find anyother dog like it. I am fourteen years old, and I have had this Jackrussell terrier sense I was in Fourth grade. She is my life. I couldn't even hardly imagine my life without her, I treat her as if she was my sister. Jack Russells are like humans in a dogs body, I really sometimes forget she's even a dog. This breed is always happy, cheerfull, loving, loyal, and protective. They will love you no matter what you do, My little jackie is five years old, and still acts as if she was a puppy. They are very smart dogs, and learn quick, even at a old age. But, let me tell you, every Jack Russell is different. Jack russells are very sensitive, and know when your sad. They will always try to make you feel better. They are truley amazing creatures. & for all of you people that think that there just little hyper things that run around and do nothing. You really need to be patient, because somewhere in that little bo... Read more

This is coming from a girl who now has three horses, two cats, one dog, and a rabbit. Animal lover! I don't mean to be cruel (this will be!), but I find these dogs to be the most malicious, obnoxious, coniving, vengeful little rats of the entire K9 family. I honestly and sincerely abhor these little yappers. I just recently moved out of a house that I shared with my roomate and her nasty little jack russel. FIRST of all, there was a HUGE! shedding problem. I was always reminded of the thing because there was wiry white hair stuck to everything! It was IMPOSSIBLE to get off. Really disgusting! Secondly the dog was helplessly high strong and full of piss and vinegar 24/7. It NEVER rested. (Everyone was constantly tripping over this little shit!) It was always scattering around ricocheting off couchs and guest's legs. Seriously obnoxious! And when it wasn't, it was jumping onto tables and laps, unwantedly! The biggest problem was the chewing! At one and a half years old, this dog was STIL... Read more

Very smart and loyal dogs. They can be a little independent at times. They have a lot of energy but aren't constantly pinging off of the walls as some would have you believe. I have had 2 of them and I wouldn't consider getting any other type of dog.

I got my JRT from a shelter. He was skin and bones and very shy. Now, 3 yrs. later I can't even go to the bathroom alone. When he hears me tell my kids goodnight he heads for my bedroom and is in bed before me. When I first got him though he chewed everything! Even the walls. I broke him of that and now he has a toy in his mouth 24/7. He's laying as far on my lap as he can get right now. He loves my miniature rat terrier, but she pretends not to like him (until you leave the room then she's letting him nuzzle and lick her). They are so cute together (he's about 5 now and she's 15). I have never met such a stubborn dog though. And he really thinks he's a big dog, but then so does my ratty :)

Jacks are certainly one of the most intelligent and energetic breeds. If you like this mix then a Jack Russell is the top-dog. We have two Jack Russell Terriers and they are happy, fearless, smart and CRAZY! Well, funny crazy. One theme you probably see in all of those who know Jack Russells is that they need a lot of attention and exercise, both physically and mentally. They need to run at least twice a day and be constantly taught something new. They are a very personal dog and will form a strong bond with you. They want to go everywhere with you. If you live in an apartment or can't spend a hour or so each day with them then please look at another type of dog. Too many Jack Russells end up in shelters as unsuspecting owners don't always know what they are in for.

i loved mine, but she was the most stubborn dog i have ever owned. a bit to mischeivous for the apartment at the time. i would say a back yard filled with squirrell feeders, would have made my jack a very good pet, but she always peed on carpets and bed.

Im 17 y/o and i just bought an 8 week old JRT. she is a female, and when i got her she was the quietest of them all. Once i brought her home she was comfortable the next day, jumping and playing. She is crate trained, and i've had her for one week and she is already house broken. If nobody lets her out of course she will go in the house, but she tries and holds it till we let her outside. She bites and nips but shes too young to know that its bad. Sometimes she gets annoying but only cuz we have to watch her to make sure she doesnt chew something up. Always play with them or they will go crazyyy. I love her so far, shes cute but sometimes she is annoying. I hope she'll grow out of it

If you like terriers you will like this breed. They are intellegent but are bred to go into the ground for rodents, so they are tough. Of course I like that. They are busy bodies though so make sure if you get one you have the lifestyle for them. I think they are cool dogs!

During a business visit to a client's house, their Jack Russell terrier immediately jumped up and down wanting attention from me. I thought she was cute and played along while walking to a table to set up. She jumped up so high that she landed on the table feet first. I think it scared her a bit, and she became somewhat aloof the rest of the time I was there.

Very intelligent and loyal dog! My uncle owns one, and he hates my kids, but that's because he's an only child. So he just stays away from them. He can do any trick, and he prefers a basketball over a tennisball any day. I agree with every comment posted here about the importance of researching whether the breed is for you. If you think they are: get one, train him well, and have fun!!!

I've owned Jacks for nearly 30 years. They are extremely intelligent, loyal and fun. They are a high energy breed and require a lot of physical and mental exercise. A well trained Jack is a total joy to have in your home. An untrained or poorly trained Jack is a terror. If you're having problems with your Jack, then get into training classes. A good trainer will train you to train your Jack. Don't blame the Jack for your lack of training and don't judge all Jacks by a poorly trained Jack that you have observed. Not all Jacks are good with kids or small animals. Above all, these dogs are hunters and can view cats, rabbits, gerbils, mice, rats and guinea pigs as prey. If you do your research, you'll find out whether a Jack can fit nicely into your household, but don't blame the dog for your lack of research and your lack of commitment to training. I currently have two of the little darlings and can't imagine a time in my life without at least one.

My dad has a Jack Russell Terrier. He can be a bit of a spaz sometimes but I know it's only because he is so excited. I remember when I was younger and would stay at my dad's on weekends the dog would always run into my room at night and climb under the covers with me. Only he would lay all the way by my feet and sleep there all night!

The trick w/ these little dogs is patience. They are on a natural high all the time and can't control it at times. They just need a loving owner that will work w/ them. They are very smart and maybe to smart for thier breed. Make sure they don't go past the fence line or you will never see your dog again.

Jack Russell Terriers are such great dogs! They are very smart and enjoy learning new tricks. JRT's have to be the smartest dogs there are. Jacks are also a high-energy dog and do best with active families who will exercise them for about an hour almost every day. If properly socialized they are great with young children, although some may not appreciate ear and tail pulling. A JRT that is raised with cats, rabbits, and other small furry critters can learn to live with them, but a lot of JRT's view these animals as prey. So, if you want a Jack and have any of those critters introduce the dog to them carefully. If you want a dog that won't follow around everywhere, don't get a Jack Russell. Your JRT will become your second shadow. They'll follow you anywhere they can. If you give a Jack Russell plenty of love, attention, and exercise they'll be wonderful companions. JACK RUSSELL TERRIERS ARE THE BEST DOGS!!!

One of the most adorable breeds of dog in existence, they'll nevertheless chew every pair of shoes in the house to pieces and bark incessantly at the slightest movement, even the flicker of a leaf in the breeze outside. Quite intelligent though, so hide your shoes in a sturdy closet or something. Incredibly cute dogs, like the pooch in the old RCA ad looking into a gramophone.

Jack Russell Terriers are great family dogs. They are very smart and excel at canine sports such as agility, flyball, and frisbee catching. And yes they can be trained and taught tricks, it make require a little patience, but it can be done. They can be great with kids, all it really takes is socialization; all breeds of dogs should be socialized if they are expected to get along with people. If you want a lap dog this isn't the breed for you, they have lots of energy and should be exercised daily. They can also get along with cats and other small furry animals if introduced properly. I have never met a dog-agressive JRT but they can show same sex agression with other dogs. All in all they are a wonderful breed to own and plus they just the cutest!! I own a wonderful JRT ( I think she's the best dog in the universe, but that my opinion) and will always own a JRT.

She has already bit one of the kids just walking past her dish while she is eating. She is constanty pissing on my floor right in front of me. I have tried everything on her to train her to go outside. I am ready to give her away, but I hate to do that because I paid a lot of money for her. If you have any suggestions, please feel free to give send it to my box! UPDATE...Bought a shock collar. She is much better now. Don't call me inhuman. She deserved it!

Two of these dogs cornered my cat and forced him into a freezing canal, then, judging from the marks on the snow, proceeded to prevent him from getting back onto land, and thus caused the cat to freeze to death in the water . . . I had a jack russell, pippin, for 10 years and she was the sweetest thing. Very obedient and kind. Small enough to lay with us kids on the couch when we were sick. In her younger days, she was known to chase and kill many baby rabbits.. but when we brought home a cat from the shelter, pippin took to her quite nicely. She even left alone our two pet rabbits. We buried her two summers ago. I loved that dog and was sad to see her go.

If there is one breed of dog that drags down the entire species, it's this one. They are mean, noisy, vicious little creatures. One of them lived next door to my mom and the stupid thing bit her at least twice when she was simply standing in her yard, moving her sprinkler! Totally unprovoked attack. As a result, I hate Jack Russell terriers. Everyone thinks they're so cute and funny because of Eddie on "Frasier." The fact of the matter is that they are obnoxious, high-strung little f@#*$ers!

Jackie Russells are one of the few little dogs I could tolerate in my house. My wife is a petite woman (4'10") and big dogs would overwhelm her, so I must admit these are some pretty decent dogs to be around. They are extremely well-adapted to small living spaces (we live in an apartment) and also are very friendly, but they can be a bit yappy at times. But then, most terriers always have something to say!
