Not that I would 'ever'- but there has not been a Jack Russell Terrier that I have not wanted to punt and it's like petting a pig, only the latter isn't as hyper.

Jacks are certainly one of the most intelligent and energetic breeds. If you like this mix then a Jack Russell is the top-dog. We have two Jack Russell Terriers and they are happy, fearless, smart and CRAZY! Well, funny crazy. One theme you probably see in all of those who know Jack Russells is that they need a lot of attention and exercise, both physically and mentally. They need to run at least twice a day and be constantly taught something new. They are a very personal dog and will form a strong bond with you. They want to go everywhere with you. If you live in an apartment or can't spend a hour or so each day with them then please look at another type of dog. Too many Jack Russells end up in shelters as unsuspecting owners don't always know what they are in for.

i loved mine, but she was the most stubborn dog i have ever owned. a bit to mischeivous for the apartment at the time. i would say a back yard filled with squirrell feeders, would have made my jack a very good pet, but she always peed on carpets and bed.

Im 17 y/o and i just bought an 8 week old JRT. she is a female, and when i got her she was the quietest of them all. Once i brought her home she was comfortable the next day, jumping and playing. She is crate trained, and i've had her for one week and she is already house broken. If nobody lets her out of course she will go in the house, but she tries and holds it till we let her outside. She bites and nips but shes too young to know that its bad. Sometimes she gets annoying but only cuz we have to watch her to make sure she doesnt chew something up. Always play with them or they will go crazyyy. I love her so far, shes cute but sometimes she is annoying. I hope she'll grow out of it

If you like terriers you will like this breed. They are intellegent but are bred to go into the ground for rodents, so they are tough. Of course I like that. They are busy bodies though so make sure if you get one you have the lifestyle for them. I think they are cool dogs!

During a business visit to a client's house, their Jack Russell terrier immediately jumped up and down wanting attention from me. I thought she was cute and played along while walking to a table to set up. She jumped up so high that she landed on the table feet first. I think it scared her a bit, and she became somewhat aloof the rest of the time I was there.

Very intelligent and loyal dog! My uncle owns one, and he hates my kids, but that's because he's an only child. So he just stays away from them. He can do any trick, and he prefers a basketball over a tennisball any day. I agree with every comment posted here about the importance of researching whether the breed is for you. If you think they are: get one, train him well, and have fun!!!

I've owned Jacks for nearly 30 years. They are extremely intelligent, loyal and fun. They are a high energy breed and require a lot of physical and mental exercise. A well trained Jack is a total joy to have in your home. An untrained or poorly trained Jack is a terror. If you're having problems with your Jack, then get into training classes. A good trainer will train you to train your Jack. Don't blame the Jack for your lack of training and don't judge all Jacks by a poorly trained Jack that you have observed. Not all Jacks are good with kids or small animals. Above all, these dogs are hunters and can view cats, rabbits, gerbils, mice, rats and guinea pigs as prey. If you do your research, you'll find out whether a Jack can fit nicely into your household, but don't blame the dog for your lack of research and your lack of commitment to training. I currently have two of the little darlings and can't imagine a time in my life without at least one.

Zippy, loyal, affectionate, and entertaining. Utterly misplaced in suburban homes. Territorial. Doesn't play well with other dogs.

I love my mom's jack russell Ellie. She is a sweetheart, but can be a bit of an attention hog when it some to other pets. Belly rubs are her absolute favorite.

We stood in a circle and joined hands to pray at Thanksgiving dinner the other night, and, when everybody opened their eyes, Ellie, our Jack Russell Tarrier was lying on her back in the middle waiting for somebody to pat her belly.

They are cute dogs, but so annoying that I wouldn't want one. They also tend to think that they are bigger then they really are.

i have one, and i sort of like her, but she growls at my less than 2 year old brother and is starting to not listen at all, they are not a breed to have around kids, and they are impossible to house train, unless you wan't your carpets died yellow, look for another breed!

My dad has a Jack Russell Terrier. He can be a bit of a spaz sometimes but I know it's only because he is so excited. I remember when I was younger and would stay at my dad's on weekends the dog would always run into my room at night and climb under the covers with me. Only he would lay all the way by my feet and sleep there all night!

The trick w/ these little dogs is patience. They are on a natural high all the time and can't control it at times. They just need a loving owner that will work w/ them. They are very smart and maybe to smart for thier breed. Make sure they don't go past the fence line or you will never see your dog again.

Jack Russell Terriers are such great dogs! They are very smart and enjoy learning new tricks. JRT's have to be the smartest dogs there are. Jacks are also a high-energy dog and do best with active families who will exercise them for about an hour almost every day. If properly socialized they are great with young children, although some may not appreciate ear and tail pulling. A JRT that is raised with cats, rabbits, and other small furry critters can learn to live with them, but a lot of JRT's view these animals as prey. So, if you want a Jack and have any of those critters introduce the dog to them carefully. If you want a dog that won't follow around everywhere, don't get a Jack Russell. Your JRT will become your second shadow. They'll follow you anywhere they can. If you give a Jack Russell plenty of love, attention, and exercise they'll be wonderful companions. JACK RUSSELL TERRIERS ARE THE BEST DOGS!!!

One of the most adorable breeds of dog in existence, they'll nevertheless chew every pair of shoes in the house to pieces and bark incessantly at the slightest movement, even the flicker of a leaf in the breeze outside. Quite intelligent though, so hide your shoes in a sturdy closet or something. Incredibly cute dogs, like the pooch in the old RCA ad looking into a gramophone.

Jack Russell Terriers are great family dogs. They are very smart and excel at canine sports such as agility, flyball, and frisbee catching. And yes they can be trained and taught tricks, it make require a little patience, but it can be done. They can be great with kids, all it really takes is socialization; all breeds of dogs should be socialized if they are expected to get along with people. If you want a lap dog this isn't the breed for you, they have lots of energy and should be exercised daily. They can also get along with cats and other small furry animals if introduced properly. I have never met a dog-agressive JRT but they can show same sex agression with other dogs. All in all they are a wonderful breed to own and plus they just the cutest!! I own a wonderful JRT ( I think she's the best dog in the universe, but that my opinion) and will always own a JRT.

My dog is headed out the door if she doesn't shape up! She is only 6 months old and is already very protective of her food. She has already bit one of the kids just walking past her dish while she is eating. She is constanty pissing on my floor right in front of me. I have tried everything on her to train her to go outside. I am ready to give her away, but I hate to do that because I paid a lot of money for her. If you have any suggestions, please feel free to give send it to my box! UPDATE...Bought a shock collar. She is much better now. Don't call me inhuman. She deserved it!

Two of these dogs cornered my cat and forced him into a freezing canal, then, judging from the marks on the snow, proceeded to prevent him from getting back onto land, and thus caused the cat to freeze to death in the water . . . These dogs are mean spirited, nasty, obnoxious and quite vicious!

We have a 3 1/2 year old Jack Russell Terrier. Best dog we have ever had. Has NEVER chewed anything in our home. Has a lot of energy and demands quite a bit of attention, but we love it. Gets along well with our 100 lb. German Shepard. Those who don't like these little dynamos haven't met a well mannered Jack.

I had a jack russell, pippin, for 10 years and she was the sweetest thing. Very obedient and kind. Small enough to lay with us kids on the couch when we were sick. In her younger days, she was known to chase and kill many baby rabbits.. but when we brought home a cat from the shelter, pippin took to her quite nicely. She even left alone our two pet rabbits. We buried her two summers ago. I loved that dog and was sad to see her go.

If there is one breed of dog that drags down the entire species, it's this one. They are mean, noisy, vicious little creatures. One of them lived next door to my mom and the stupid thing bit her at least twice when she was simply standing in her yard, moving her sprinkler! Totally unprovoked attack. As a result, I hate Jack Russell terriers. Everyone thinks they're so cute and funny because of Eddie on "Frasier." The fact of the matter is that they are obnoxious, high-strung little f@#*$ers!

Jackie Russells are one of the few little dogs I could tolerate in my house. My wife is a petite woman (4'10") and big dogs would overwhelm her, so I must admit these are some pretty decent dogs to be around. They are extremely well-adapted to small living spaces (we live in an apartment) and also are very friendly, but they can be a bit yappy at times. But then, most terriers always have something to say!

The most HYPER dog I have ever come across. I knew one that paced back and forth on pavement SO MUCH that he had raw paws. These dogs have such an abundance of energy and an extreme need for attention. They are intelligent though, and I am sure the perfect dog for the right person (not me!)

If you like high energy, always wanting to play, intelligent dogs that are compressed into an 18 lbs. body then Jack Russells are for you. We've had several and yes they're needy, and yes some of them are yappy but they're also a helluva lot of fun. Fearless, rambunctious, and great snugglers, just be prepared that they are at the very least a part-time job.
