Easy solution. I don't watch much TV, and I stay out of theaters at holiday time.

Used to be a Mason holiday tradition to eat a good meal, then go out at night and watch a decent movie afterwords. The keyword "decent" that has been hard to come across for a while now during the holidays. They are all cheesy, or just stupid lol.

Although this isn't nearly the most irritating thing about the holidays, it comes pretty close for me. I don't really need to see ads for this crap on the subway before halloween, nor whenever I happen to turn on the tv. The films themselves are usually trying to repackage the nostalgia and humor of things like National Lampoon or A Christmas Story, but lacking good writing, acting, etc. They're typically marketed to families who don't actually get along during the holidays when they have to talk to each other, and also must appeal to every generation. The results = tragic. In the post-holiday shopping season (which is bound to be even more dismal for retailers this season than it was last year), we'll be subjected to ads for the DVDs. The gift that keeps on giving, indeed.
