The dog my family is fostering for someone else has been with us for about 3 months or so. She is very affectionate but way, way, way too noisy. She has this extremly high pitched bark and this weird sounding growl that is so annoying!!! she barks at the Guinea Pig all the time and barks whenever you drive up in a car or when she is in her cage. She is very affectionate towards my mother but as affectionate towards my Dad and I. She disturbs my Pug when she is sleeping to te point that my Pug jumps and growls at her. At night, you can't make one little sound or else she will bark. One morning, she barked so much that I was awake from 6:30 am till 9:30, all while she barked. Plus, she pees and poops in the house all the time and is untrainable. In fact, right now she is barking and whining. I would advise that you find out a lot about the dog you are about to buy or adopt before you do it, or else you'll wish you hadn't of gotten it.

I have an awesome little 2 year old Yorkie. He's the sweetest little guy & loves being around myself & my family. He's always either cuddled up to someone or playing. He loves fetch! When I come in the door, there he is to greet me with his bright & happy eyes & his little tail wagging all over. He's very loyal & protective of my home & my family. Anyone who has encountered an aggressive or ill-natured Yorkie has seen the result of bad breeding & bad training. If you want a good dog then you need to work with him to make him that way.

Too many people acquire a toy breed puppy without understanding how incredibly fragile a toy breed is. You can seriously injure or kill a Yorkshire Terrier by stepping on him or by sitting on him when he's curled under a blanket or pillow, where he frequently likes to sleep. And Yorkshire Terriers can seriously injure or kill THEMSELVES by leaping from your arms or off the back of your sofa. A larger dog can grab a Yorkshire Terrier and break his neck with one quick shake. Owning a toy breed means constant supervision and surveillance of what's going on around your tiny dog. Yorkshire Terriers must always be kept on-leash -- they are just too easy to injure when not under your complete control. And many Yorkies, with their terrier heritage, have strong chasing instincts. They will take off after anything that runs.

Based on what I've seen, worthless, ill-tempered rat dogs.

Health problems come from selfish, careless, greedy breeders, period!  I wonder if you've ever bothered to educate people about buying from a reputable breeder.  You should never buy any dog from a petstore, newspaper ad, or online.  If you buy from breeder who does health testing and only breeds well tempered dogs within the standard, you will get a healthy pet.  Any breed with the kind of popularity that Yorkies have, is going to have temperment and health problems.  For someone that works for a vet, you don't seem to know to much.

Walking health problem!  Breeding something down so little has the same affect as trying to breed a dog too big.  Skin problems, eye problems, tons of heart problems, Slipping knee caps, hip problems, all system problems...too many to name.  I work at a vet's office and we see so many unhealthy Yorkies.  My vet and I were working on one and she said, "I just don't understand why people keep breeding and buying these dogs.  Unless they just like to give me money!"  It's not a real dog.  I have seen one of two Yorkies that were really neat but overall, just way too many problems.  Also, they are one of the hardest to house train.

Don't they sell them as feeders for real dogs like they do goldfish for Piranha?

My Yorkie boy is very well behaved, house trained and all around good sport.
Tons and tons of love, energy and companionship. I cannt imagine owning another dog while living in an appartment. He doesnt shed, doesnt smell and just loves to play and just to be happy. There is not a single problem I have wit this breed.
Thos who complain about these great dogs, dont know how to raise them or to work with them to shape them to be great dogs. Behavior problems are from lack of nourishment or discipline. Which speaks loudly about the owner itself.
Yorkies are very loyal and protective of their homes and owners.

This is a little rat terrier and is a good dog to have around the house. They are little nervous and yappy sometimes, however.

Don't let them run around outside in dingo country, however.  They won't last too long.

Everything was great until this a little cute yorkie bit my kids toes and then we woke up one night and he was scratching our leather couch all over the place. This dog also nips and yas at all my guests and even at me if i am busy doing something. Needless to say i am putting it on eBay for free and buying a French Bulldog like i shouldhave in the first place!!

adorable when they're puppies but they grow up into long,greasy haired ratdogs that don't live long since big, normal dogs mistake them for real rats and they eat them.

I never would have chosen a Yorkie, small dogs are often annoying and yappy. So when I was presented with a 4lb male Yorkie I wasn't tremendously excited, but this little guy has stolen my heart! I never ever thought I would be so silly about a little dog! Thankfully he is not yappy - I'm sure that helped - hehe. Fortunately he also doesn't have any health issues that some small ones do. He is the darling of the neighborhood, the kids come ask if he can come out to play. He is surprisingly patient with them, and they have learned to be gentle, not wanting to step on his tiny toes. My girls love him too. 'Who woulda thunk it' - lol!

I love yorkies, they're one of my favourite breeds! They have a long coat (that can be cut shorter) which comes in black and tan. they're really small and have lots of attitude, they can sometimes be snappy. But they're really smart and loyal to their owners. And they are so ADORABLE when they're pups!

My Yorkie is brilliant and so gorgeous! I love him. I was never a small dog owner, but having rescued one, I am thrilled and in LOVE!

These are smart dogs. They don't shed but if you keep the hair long there will be lots of grooming involved. If you cut their hair short they are adorable with little to no grooming except for the occasional bath. They like kids but they can be very protective of their owner and property, growling, yipping and snapping if someone comes too close to what is theirs.

Best hunters in the world. Plus, they learn tricks easy, mine can skin dive and boggie board. Oh, and I find that guys with big dogs, well, they have serious issues, and the big dogs usually run from my little yorkies, especially pit bulls.

The kind of dog that a rich, old lady would like.

I have a yorkie now that is 8 years old. She is so sweet. I also have a collie/shepherd mix I adopted at a shelter and both of them get along great! KizzieBelle, the yorkie, has never been a problem with my granddaughter, but both dogs do not really care for strangers. A month ago I had the privelege to get a yorkie-pom mix, who at nearly 3 months of age weighed only a little over a pound. Unfortunately, she didn't make it and I grieve her loss, and bless the joy she gave me while I had her. I also have 2 cats and have no problems from either dogs. It is my hope to introduce another yorkie into the home once I am ready.

I travel to clients' houses during my work. Frequently, one of my clients has a dog. The Yorkie is definitely one of my favorites and seem to be very smart. Yesterday, a Yorkie's owner told her to walk over and say hello to me(and she did). They are very affectionate and somewhat rambunctious(which is cool- dogs are funner that way).

I too thought small dogs were annoying, but now Im a proud owner of a 7month old pure bred yorkie. I love her to death. THey are smart, fun , affectionate dogs. Im head over heels in love with my lou lou....

Yorkies are absolutely fabulous dogs! I have one and I wouldn't trade her for a million dollars! She is so precious!

I thought at one time that these dogs were ankle biting little freaks that annoy the crap out of anyone. But, my parents have since bought 2 and you will absolutely fall head over heels for these little lovable dogs when they start to protect you and are so so happy to see you whenever you arrive home. GO YORKIES!!!

We have had two Pom-yorkies and one purebred Yorkie. All had some health problems - but overall they were just terrific dogs. Smart, positive attitude, playful, funny. My wife and I have had perhaps 10 different kinds of dogs throughout our lives, and the Yorkie was #1.

I have a Yorkie and a Silkie (they WERE my daughter's dogs but she grew up and moved out and I got the dogs!). I, too, disliked "little" dogs at one time; I thought they were "yappy" but...boy have my feelings on that subject changed! They're dedicated, true blue, so happy to see me when I get home from work and...bonus!..they don't shed! To be honest, their bark doesn't annoy me half as much as the bark of my Sheltie (piercing..argh!)...but I love him too. :)

They make great chew toys for real dogs.

Ugly little things, especially whenever their owner(s) put(s) those stupid ribbons in their hair. I saw an old lady who was driving in her car and her Yorkie was actually sitting on her lap as she was driving. How idiotic can anyone get? Little dogs, in general, annoy me anyway.
