I don't think this made a huge difference in Pakistan or in the region. First of all, she was a convincted criminal, both in her home country and in Swizerland. Secondly, did anyone real doubt that she'd be assassinated once she went back? Joan of Arc she was not.

Another tragedy in the War on Terror.  About 10 years ago, I had the priviledge to hear her speak at a conference.
