A one-note strip appealing to small children, but no world-shaker.

Certainly one of the lamest strips out there. The punch lines are utterly predictable and not the least bit amusing.

This dog is as obnoxious as he is big. Pretty much a one joke strip.
GenghisTheHun 09/15/2005
This strip was always good spirited fun for the whole family. It is a memory of a vanished America.

Marmaduke is big. He is also clumsy. He knocks things over a lot. He likes to eat as much as he can. Did I miss anything out?

You people don't know a good comic when you read one! I wait all week to read the Marmaduke comic in my sunday paper! It is the best comic in there!

No, most people *hate* big, dumb, out-of-control dogs. Very hard to read due to the sloppy handwriting, and the reader letters describing the sickeningly cutesy (yet ordinary) antics of their pets are horrible. This one should have been put to sleep years ago.

Just awful. I'd love to meet the editor who first bought this and ask him what he was thinking.

I think Marmaduke is funny and cute. I love dogs and I always enjoy the comic strips about them.

Pass the sick bag, Alice.

marmaduke is the worst

it's WAS funny centuries ago, but i just got sick and tired of reading marmaduke's letters from his fans. who the heck want's to read such nonsense?! it's a waste of time. i just wish they would do something to make it funny again but NOW it's just horrible.

This panel just makes me uncomfortable. I hate big, stupid, obtrusive dogs and I despise their owners. If Marmaduke were my pet, he would be euthanized immediately.

Like dog comic strips.
jdubrates 02/18/2003
I love dogs but I expect more out of a comic than a panel showing a poodle at the door & Marmaduke's owner calling out, "You're girlfriend is here!" The other variation being Marmaduke's owners noticing the satellite dish on his doghouse roof. Snoopy explored this years ago. Let's call the whole thing OFF.

Most comic strips have these things called "jokes". A joke is any dialogue or action that makes someone laugh or chuckle or at least smile. Marmaduke is devoid of anything that resembles a joke. Example: Kid: "Marmaduke! Quiet!" Marmaduke:" Woof woof woof. . ."(Two panels of woofing) Kid: "Marmaduke! No, you can't have my cookie!" That's it. I actually feel worse after reading that crap. Marmaduke can't be classified as a comic strip. It's more of a tragic strip.

Marmaduke is the worst!! The "jokes" are not funny in the least. What's so funny about "Don't eat the flowers, Marmaduke!"??
slymon 12/29/2002
The ultimate in lazy comic art. The worst is when he runs a Sunday 'Dog Gone Funny' that doesn't even contain a story. Surely Brad Anderson could come up with a Sunday story line- let's see, big dog sits on couch, raids butcher shop, runs around the block real fast...must have pictures of comic editors doing something wrong....

I'm an avid Great Dane fan, so I cannot hate this comic strip.
swanoak 11/25/2002
Never thought too much about this strip, until I realized Marmaduke is a twin to my daughters dog.
finlore 06/18/2002
I haven't seen Marmaduke for years since it was dropped from our local newspapers. For a long time, it was a strip that I barely noticed -- until my family had a Great Dane. True, it's not a hilarious comic strip but it amazed me to see how many of the traits (that I'd thought exaggerated) in Marmaduke were very familiar after having a Great Dane in the family. To me, it's one of the strips that generally make you smile rather than one that elicits gales of laughter. Sometimes heartwarming.

Never was much of a Duke fan. Great Danes that always get in trouble and bother people are not my idea of comedy.
Potch1214 09/18/2001
I have to agree with Jesterr's assessment, a one joke strip. Big dog. I found it funny when I had a Great Dane.
Spiralingmarce 05/21/2001
The drawings are a bit messy, and the antics get kind of old day after day.
jesterr 12/19/2000
A one joke strip...and that joke isn't very funny.
Wiggum 05/07/2000
It's getting old, especially for a one-joke (the dog is BIG) one-panel comic strip, but I still like it every now and then.
