Not my style of comic. I wouldn't miss it if they were to take it completely out.

Absolutely awful drawing style. The strip was and still is daring from time to time,. but quite frangkly, Trudeau has no real talent for creating living caharcters--they are all one-notes. Compare Harold Grey's idiologically and diametrically opposite Little Orphan Annie to see how it should be done.

I gave it 5 stars because the first decade was so powerful, it overwhelms the subsequent decline. It kind of sold out to weeniesque yuppie orientation, and became more of a soap opera in the 1980s. It's kind of lost its edge.

A great reflector of the hippie and later cultures.

Long past it's prime but gamely hanging on to its 1960's values.

There were times I would be laughing til I cried over this one. Always a good one.

Aimed at the most Bluest factions of Blue-staters. Generally not funny. But now and then Trudeau catches some lightning in a bottle and I'll read for a while. Recent examples: BD losing his leg and Duke coping with the loss of his real-life basis, Hunter S. Thompson.

Duke rocks!Zonker rocks! Doonsbury rocks!

Good political humor, which while leaning to the left hits both parties, and some of the best (and most) recurring characters in comics.

I don't care what others say but this isn't a comic strip. If a paper prints it all it should be on the editorial page.
jouster 06/15/2004
Overrated imho. I don't object to the politics as I suspect many do, but rather to the smart ass, humorless approach. Enough already with the four panels of White House exteriors and the invisible characters. If you can't be bothered making the drawings interesting, don't write a comic.....
DistortedSmile 09/09/2003
Whether you agree with his ideas on politics and the world in general, Garry Trudeau has a very subtle and witty humour that really pulls this strip through....It's one of my personal favourites. The characters actually have personalities that make them identifiable, which is more than I can say for alot of the strips out there. It's the kind of comic that incites debate between you, your parents, friends, spouses, relatives....And debate helps you understand people better. 5 stars for a great, involved strip! ~Tara~

For lack of a better word I'll just say that this little attempt at humor just plain sucks.

I'm not a left winger but I've always loved Doonesbury! Joanie Caucus Rules! ~Erg!

Still cutting edge. The world needs this strip.
comicbook1 05/22/2003
I wory about this strip. It was once one of the best satire strips produced, but in recent years in seems to have gotten (IMO) quite "snotty" about its satire
analyticaldave 04/24/2003
The P.O.V. travels around the outside of the White House...again. I wonder if there is a more overrated strip in the paper....again. I read that day's strip and I don't laugh...again.

While not consistently funny anymore, *especially* not to the preteens, it still provides important and often clever takes on current events.
gopman79 01/29/2003
Dumb. This is an awful comic, basically an ultra-liberal political cartoon in the comic section.
Jason1972 12/13/2002
I love how this comic strip pushes the political envelope. It's very gutsy and will always be a classic.
lukskywlkr. 12/05/2002
Okay a few years ago, but I don't even have any interest in reading it anymore.
ace performer 12/01/2002
liberal drivel that i look over to get to the "boondocks" cartoon, none the less.
petuniasevan 11/25/2002
Clueless cartoonist. Obviously got into Tim Leary's stash. Pointless navel gazing one week; political attacks the next. Sad thing is, he can't even get his facts straight (Theodore Roosevelt a Democrat? Give me a break!) I only gave Trudeau one star because there's no lower rating.
bullverizer 11/16/2002
doonesberry is the most lackluster comic strip ever drawn this no talent clown draws the same face on every character and just puts different hair or hat on them.....take some lessons and throw away the stencils
CastleBee 05/30/2002
This has got to be THE cartoon for left wing boomers (and retro anti-establishment types who romanticize the late '60's) still clinging to their hatred of the government and still blaming all the woes of the world on their parent’s generation. It no doubt also has great appeal for those who enjoy sitcoms with “a message” (oh, spare me). I don't always disagree with everything he says but I do think a cartoon should at least try to be humorous. The only funny thing about Trudeau that I can see is that he tends to be every bit as arrogant, narrow minded and bigoted in his own way as the people he berates. And what is it with those weird squared-off noses…for some reason that just drives me crazy!
Solenoid DH 03/01/2002
It's cynical and hostile in tone. It's pushy and left-wing. The art work is lousy. Thankfully, many of our large papers have the sense to put it on the editorial page, where it belongs. There's no excuse for putting it on the comic page. Jane Pauley, you could have married so much better!
TheFreak 02/10/2002
This is the highest rating I can give???!!! This is my favorite comic strip, and I read it almost religiously, or non-religiously, so to speak. Today's Doonesbury was one of the funniest comics I ever saw (if you haven't read it, read it now!). The ones making fun of Big Tobacco are so mercilessly satirical that it's cute. The plays on Hannity & Colmes are amusing, and possibly my favorites are the ones making fun of Dubya. The ones with "Boopsie" trying to get on that foolish TV show "Survivor" were really good. Garry Trudeau is one of the funniest liberals I have ever read the work of, and I hope Doonesbury is around for a long time. Take care, everyone!
Lord of the Waves 10/20/2001
Greatest comic of all times. very political and oppinionated as well. gary trudeau is awesome. humor for those who pay attention to current events.
ellajedlicka21 10/19/2001
I love Doonesbury. The way it's actually a political cartoon with a conscious message is great. They always do it in such a humorous manner, too. It's my favorite daily cartoon to see.
Potch1214 09/18/2001
Thank you Mr. Trudeau for bringing this masterful socio-politcal comic back!!!
artbuf 05/09/2000
Absolute Garbage.
PoorOldEdgarDe rby 05/08/2000
Don't look forward to it. Don't ordinarily laugh out loud. Do think he thinks he's too cool for school. But he does have some good ones on occasion.
Munson 05/08/2000
It normally doesn't make you laugh out loud, but it is good, biting political humor.
Wiggum 05/07/2000
Great satire, but it seems a little too smug for me sometimes. Still, Doonesbury has great moments. The idea of representing Dan Quayle as a little white leaf was inspired.
