In just about every country but the U.S., this is a very big deal. In some countries it is second in importance only to the World Cup. The American players used to support this event, but because of the increasing number of tournaments, and the lack of money they receive for playing, today's stars are very inconsistent presences.

Naming McEnroe captain does a lot to make this thing more interesting. As captain, can he throw tantrums from the sideline?

The Davis Cup is pretty cool. I remember watching Pete Sampras self-destruct against the #235 player in the world, in front of a raucous crowd in Paraguay (or some other random place). It's nice to see the top players get rattled by the unusual (for tennis) element of fan passion.
