 | strategomaster (1) 12/28/2007 | One of the best board games ever! Capture the flag for fat and lazy kids. Takes a long time until it gets boring. Could play it all day. Better and quicker than Risk, but its only 2 player. Hint: don't hide flag against lake.

 | VirileVagabond (32) 07/18/2006 | Another ultimate board game for early teenage boys (and their fathers as another reviewer noted), I remember Stratego as fun and well worth the time back in the day. Though the number of players is limited to two (as opposed to Risk or instance), the game appealed to my youth with soldiers, conquest, and strategy. (As noted in prior comments, the initial setup can often dictate the outcome.) The game is also similar to Chess since there is nothing really left to chance (i.e. no dice). The bottom line is that Stratego is another strong military based board game originating from the French (in its modern form at least). (For those interested in such things, the game was developed a few years prior to World War I.)

 | operator 409 (7) 08/15/2005 | Good game for fathers and sons to play together, as long as Dads'ego can take a hit. Not the type of game I want to play continuously, but board game fans are not like video game zealots who sit down and dont get up until they think they have mastered the game.

 | me120585 (0) 01/18/2005 | It depends on who your opponent is. If you are evenly matched it is much more fun. The setup is the key. NEVER put your flag in the corner... that's the first place every opponent goes!

 | VisionDude8 (0) 12/20/2004 | Thanks weevol for that link! (http://www.edcollins.com/stratego/stratego-rule-variations.htm )... it's just what we (and the game) needed. I agree with PBeavr... and the part that sucks is you die verrry-verrry slowly. It's like attending a funeral.

 | weevol (0) 05/16/2003 | I love strategy although this game played in it's basic form can eventually become monotonous. There are many rule variations that you can use to make the game much more dynamic. Rahter than list them all I will put in a link to a site that lists them (at least 30) some of which will make you think differently. http://www.edcollins.com/stratego/stratego-rule-variations.htm

 | Rusty (0) 09/05/2001 | Stratego ROCKS. I always loved utilizing my miners since they are the only ones who can trump the bombs. I used to get pretty good at determining where my opponent's flag was (usually in the corner). The sergeant usually was useless but the scouts were expendable, simply because whenever they'd strike a bomb, they'd die and then I knew where to use the miners. One of my tricks was to use everyone from the captain on down the ranks at the beginning, and then gradually wear my opponent down towards the end with my majors and colonels and whatnot. I liked the blue pieces better for some reason. A great game.

 | MedgarEvers (14) 07/13/2001 | I'm not very good at winning, but I am good at confusing the opponent. I like this game, I just wish I knew the ideal place for my flag to hide.

 | callmetootie (4) 04/10/2001 | Stratego is an extremly fun and exciting game to play against your friends and in this case...enemies. The object of the game to win the war, just like you against Hitlar or something like that, but not that violent.

 | RW Coloue (0) 12/12/2000 | This is a good strategy game that is not as time consuming as most other strategy games. It's very simple but it's also fun. It would be a good game for most age groups.

 | FannyPance (0) 12/12/2000 | I like Stratego because it is mostly strategy with a little luck. It is very entertaining. The difference between chess and Stratego is that you need to capture the flag instead of the king and you have many more pieces to spare.

 | magellan (153) 02/08/2000 | I was so addicted to this game, that I actually kept a written tally of my record over 5 years of playing. No joke - I was something like 75-3 (with all three losses coming early in my career to my crafty father). If anyone wants a piece of me, bring it on...

 | Wiggum (16) 02/08/2000 | An excellent strategy game for a wide range of ages. I actually think I learned a few things from this game. Setting up your men and bombs before the game starts is 75% of the whole battle, so figuring out how to strategically place your resources is key, and those lessons can be applied to lots of other things. Don't mess with me at Stratego.
