He was excellent back when as the smart-ass anchor on SNL. Currently well, though I don't always agree with him politically, I certainly give him credit for having the guts to go against the perceived popular thought of the left coast - a place politically and apparently forever stuck in a protesting black hole formed sometime around 1968. I enjoy listening to his radio show once in awhile during drive time to get another point of view (I listen to a lot of NPR during the day) and because I like his lighter, non-rabid approach to dispensing that pov. He's also one of the few in radio talk who actually seems to challenge the brain a bit.

Set the standard for WU anchors, I think Tina Fey has matched him. One day we will see him pitted in the Presidential debate against former SNL cast member Al Franken.
Uncle Banana Head 06/11/2008
He's an irritating, unfunny, reactionary asshole.
CanadaSucks 02/12/2007
Loved him on the news- but am I alone in thinking he was somewhat limited?
Derek880 02/12/2007
This is a joke right? This guy belongs at the bottom of this list. Was probably one of the most unfunny cast members ever. No substance, and was such a waste as cast member, they only let him do the news.

Dennis Miller was great as the Weekend Update anchor, but did he do anything else on the show memorably? Not for me. Miller is much better as a comedic commentator than he is as a comedic actor.

Best Weekend Update host. Lots of clever references and asides.

I agree with StanUzbeck

Only a Weekend Update player, not well rounded enough to rate higher.
DiamondDavid 05/27/2004
The best Weekend Update SNL ever had. Very funny with sharp delivery.
sfalconer 04/19/2004
Couldn't act then but he can now.
phlip-tout 01/04/2004
He out-did Martin Short on the Jiminy Glick show, improvisation-wise. That's a major accomplishment. He's unbelievably smart as he touts off references from beyond pop-culture.
StanUzbeck 07/27/2003
I am giving this guy a 2 out of 5. When he was on the show he was probably around a 4, but now he is nothing but a wh0re to GW Bush, which would drag his score well into the negative integers. So 2 is me being extremely generous. At one time I had respect for him, and thought he was intelligent and had thoughtful things to say. However, he decided to declare his political allegiance barely a few weeks before all the scandals broke concerning the WMD and the GOP's leadership. Great timing, you jacka$$.

Miller's a man unto himself! I love how he teaches while he entertains! I love his elitist jokes and vague references and his cocky schtick. He only loses points for being a little too conservative for my tastes and for soapboxing a bit.
Redoedo 06/01/2003
A better WU host than both Collin Quinn and Norm McDonald COMBINED! Dennis Miller is itelligent, funny and extremely witty. I wish they'd bring him back- WU is just not the same.
uTo1 05/31/2003
sounds too much Sammy Davis Jr. babe...never was funny on tv or Monday Night Football
President -X-D 05/12/2003
Weekend Update was flawless when he did it. He was extremely funny on SNL.
speleolady 05/04/2003
I think Miller's acerbic wit and complete disregard for politically correct nonsense makes him the kind of comedian who people either really like or really hate. His clever blend of eloquence and sarcasm is almost poetic at times; a personal favorite of mine.
Jason1972 01/16/2003
Though he only did Weekend Update, he wasn't that bad but some of his jokes were a little over my head.
lukskywlkr. 12/25/2002
He did a pretty good job with the news, but he really didn't do very many skits.
LeMat 12/01/2002
Since when does being too smart make someone less funny? Just because you don't get it doesn't make it a bad joke. Sure, maybe SNL wasn't the forum for some of his headier material, but that's hardly the man's fault- he doesn't decide who watches it. Yeah, he's not an actor, but he never pretended that was his aim. Fact is, he's consistently one of the wittiest men in America.

My mute button broke on my remote trying to shut him up!

Hey Denny,...part of being funny is knowing when to quit...(MNF "jokes") Some of them are fine, but every friggin' game?
callmetootie 04/07/2001
Dennis Miller should go back to his little Tv show on HBO and make lousy remarks about celebrities, because he sucked on SNL.
pumpkin 12/27/2000
Dennis is very strange but in a good way he is also very real i can understand where he is coming from all the time. he's not a sometimer and people love to see and feel that . thank dennis if you are reading this you have make a person feel good about using their own brain. I>O>U
Canes Girl 12/18/2000
Saw Dennis Miller's act in Vegas - wow he can really blow your mind away.
shmacky 11/22/2000
Dennis Miller might be appealing to an omnipresent being, but he must realize that he's talking to an audience that doesn't know all of the actors from the 40's. Dennis Miller has a tendency to reference things in his jokes that no one has ever heard of. This makes his jokes too witty for the average, unread person.
Wiggum 02/16/2000
His rants are hilarious, and, while I may miss some of the cultural references, I get enough of them to really appreciate his humor.
Shafty 02/15/2000
i think you like him or your hate... I like him.
Munson 02/15/2000
He was really good at Weekend Update, but not much else.
jkri642om 02/14/2000
Pretty good on the SNL news, but the biggest example of a "smarter than you" comedian. Tended to grate on you after a few minutes. I'm glad his career is in the toilet.
