Martin Short brought a lot of his characters from SCTV to SNL. He does a great Katherine Hepburn too. Ed Grimley was run into the ground but most of his other work was quite good.

His best work was on SNL. Long live Ed Grimley (I must say)!!!!

Martin has a lot of talent but he really seems to get involved with bad projects. I liked Inner Space and the Three Amigos but nothing else stands out.

I saw him Leno the other night and watched him make a complete ass of himself. All he did was promote Glick while wishing Jay a happy birthday.
bosguy 01/29/2003
Awful. Just awful. Sets my teeth on edge. Though Jiminy Glick is a riot, who'd have guessed?

Annoying and stupid

Who could ever forget Ed Grimly with that goofy dance, that Alfalfa spike, and his immense admiration for Pat Sajak?

I really like most of Short's characterizations, though I MUST SAY that a little of Ed Grimly went a long way. I once had a really great recording of an HBO special that highlighted just about every bit he ever did. One of the best was his immitation of Montgomery Clift in a skit where he was supposed to have had his own 50's TV show. Hilarious stuff. Also got a really big kick out of Jackie Rogers Jr. the clueless albino lounge singer who craved powdered donuts. Like him or not, you can't say he isn't original.

My favorite!

He's ok, if you're gay.

Had two good characters, one being a game show host and the other being a famous swimmer, but Martin Short was a bit short of the rest of the cast. He was pretty annoying and rarely showed up.

Probably even less funny than David Spade, if that's possible.
Wiggum 02/16/2000
What was funnier that the male sychronized swimming skit where Short, wearing water wings, kept saying "I'm not a strong swimmer." Just don't remind me of Ed Grimly - I should probably have taken away a rating point for that...
Munson 02/15/2000
Some of his stuff seems kind of dated now, but Ed Grimley was beloved...
