Spade has made a career of "borrowing" off funny people (Jay Simpson in particular) since his days at Saguaro high school. I saw him "act" in Az. in '85 he was terrible. He got a break from Dana Carvey who took him under his wing(I can't imagine why!) and got him on SNL as an extra a few years later.
It is a mystery to me how he has gotten this far!

I've yet to see him in anything where he made me crack a smile, much less laugh. He seems to have appropriated Bill Murray's patented shtick of smug, wise-cracking superiority, without appropriating any of Murray's talent (I've always thought of Murray as an uneven performer...not everything he's put his hand to is a comedic gem, let's face it...but when he's funny, he's hilarious). In fairness to Spade, I've not seen everything he's been in, but, realistically, if a supposed comedian is flat and unfunny the 6 or 7 times you've seen him in something, why would you go out of your way to see him the 8th or 9th time? Life is too short, and the world too full of genuinely talented people, to waste time on overblown mediocrities.

Went to see David Spade's standup comedy show at Fallsview Casino in Niagara Falls. After the opening act, his show runs about 60 minutes soaking wet. Spade has a unique delivery and a style of joke which appeals to a younger audience. These casino appearances are not hitting his target audience, and the crowd response might be a little disappointing.

Spade has some funny moments -- not too many "side splitting" -- audience clapping kind of moments -- but plenty of laughs for the folks who appreciate this kind of comedy.

Overall, Spade rates as "OKAY". After seeing Jay Leno (who was GOOD), and Jon Stewart (who was GREAT) ... Spade's "pecking order" is clear.

Our favourite part is when Spade said his mom loves COSTCO, what is the Canadian equivalent. The crowd yelled, "Costco". Later, spade asked what the Canadian equivalent of "Wendy's" was. The crowd answered, "Wendy's". Spade retorts, "Oh. Okay. Because we call that place Cindy's where we come from".

Hilarious! He was so cute as Kristy the Gap Girl, his Hollywood Minute segments are hilarious, and his sarcasm goes unmatched.

Spade in America and that's about it. Never should have had the career he had. It astounds me to this day.

He's done pretty well post-SNL, something that most cast members fail to do.

Another total waste of time. No discernable talent, a sarcastic wise-ass. And what a queen!!! Spade is soooo gay, and in a way that irks other gays. WHat a c*nty bitch. And he's so in denial - but I bet he takes it in the butt in private.

I know people in my personal life who are way funnier than this guy. Highly overrated in everything he does.ow he compare Farenheit 911 to Bush's E Hollywood Story and you know his mind is empty. Vapid and highly overrated. Now we know he is stupid to boot.

I absolutely hate this guy. Completely unfunny. His brand of non-humor is a large part of the reason for this show's decline. Basically, he's an a**hole. I hope he got beaten up alot in high school, but apparently not enough.

David Spade was OK on SNL. He was not one of the best castmembers of the late 80s and early 90s, but not the worst either. He seemed to focus more on sarcasm and wit more than comedy, which is OK. I loved his segments on Weekend Update where he made fun of numerous celebrities, etc. David Spade really worked well with Chris Farley.

His "Hollywood Minute" segments were funny. He really didn't have any other characters on the show of any consequence (other than he's turns in drag with Farley and Sandler as teenage girls working in the Gap, funny stuff). After Farley and Sandler left, he kinda hung on the last couple of years he was on the show, just doing "Hollywood Minute" or "Spade In America", which was just a sketch-length version of "Hollywood Minute". A decent stand-up comedian, however....and he's quite funny on "Just Shoot Me" too.

He's not a big guy but what he brought to the SNL show was great stage presence and his sarcastic wit will always be remembered. I agree with chew, Farley and Spade is a great duo.

David Spade was another cast member that didn't deserve a spot on the show. He rarely showed up, and that bothered me. They get paid to make people laugh, and he would just sit there and make dumb-ass remarks about celebrities.

David Spade can not act. David Spade is an annoying cast member. David Spade ruined Chris Farley's career. David Spade is not funny. He has not done any movies that I would consider decent movies without Chris Farley in them.

With his biting sarcasm and subdued wit, David Spade is definitely one of my favs. I'd say his best sketches were when he did Hollywood Update. And he's pretty cute to boot.

According to Dalton's Law of Conservation of Mass: the mass of the resulting substance in an ordinary chemical reaction is the same as the combined mass of the substances before they underwent a chemical reaction; therefore, David Spade kicks ass.

Funny as he was on Hollywood Minute -- he didn't prove to be very versatile. Can you remember a funny sketch he was in?

I saw him live once at UPenn, it was awesome. He is very possibly the best at insulting people, and that's just funny.
