Sean Connery is "Bond, James Bond" while other actors have done very well with the bond franchies Mr. Connery has played the roll that has set the bar far higher than most actors could ever reach. I do have to say the attemps have been very close but none the less he is the real James Bond.

Say James bond and I think of Connery, he played Bond to perfection. There is only one who comes close to playing the role with such skill and that is Daniel Craig, and with only one Bond movie under his belt so far it's hard to tell how he will be.

Sean was and is The Legend 007.
He could even pull it off now...
Austin Powers had Dr.Evil....
007 would now have to get Cheney & Bush & their oil & arms empire

Damn he was good in that role. Those films might be junk food, but they're the best tasting junk food I've ever had. None of the other Bonds have been up to his level.

If I could give a ten rating I would. There is no other Bond, James Bond. Sean Connery is the Bond to which all others aspire to. He brought Bond to life. Sean Connery is to James Bond, what Johnny Weissmueller was to Tarzan. The only true version.

Would he be considered so highly if he hadn't been the first? I doubt it. But he was and so he is. Why knock him?

PS He doesn't look real in that picture. He looks like his own waxwork dummy.

Do you know that most people who say Sean Connery is the best Bond have never in fact watched a Bond film from beginning to end? That really figures actually. Connery was a good start for the character on the big screen but far from the best. A couple of the actors who followed him made Connery look amateur.

When I first saw You Only Live Twice, my heart started to skip a beat when I saw Connery. If he had that kind of effect on me (and probably on anybody else), then he must be the TRUE James Bond, the real deal.

He invented the rouge player character. The original and most certainly the best. The only aspect he was outplayed on is looks in which Brosnan takes the cake. Connery had more charisma than all the other Bonds combined, however he and Brosnan run neck in neck as far as that natural class goes. Connery was a true class (and womanizing) act.

Bond is a womanizer and a cold blooder killer, in addition to being cool. Only Sean pulls it off. He actually looks like he could kick someone's butt, unlike Bronsan and Moore.

i think that one quote sums it all up not quite what i had in mind in the begining, but he would be if i wrote the books over again Ian Fleming. he fits everything that flemming had created in his novels other than the blue eyes and that he was an inch taller standing at 6-2. there isnt another actor that fits the fictoinal character of bond better then Connery

This is almost a no-brainer. Sean Connery IS James Bond. Were it not for him in the early Bnd films, it is arguable that there never would have been a followon to Dr. No. He was just too cool for his day! Some of the other Bonds have been OK, but none really match Connery (Brosnan comes close, but he's a bit TOO slick).

Sean Connery is the original James Bond and the standard that no one else has yet to match. The earliest Bond films were generally the best (eg Dr. No and Goldfinger, released in 1962 and 1964 respectively), as these moves did not rely so much on action and special effects. Connery fit that formula better than subsequent actors to play the role. As an ex-model, Connery had the looks and the mannerisms which allowed him to portray 007 as suave and in control, but he could also act cold and afraid, delivering the dialogue better than Roger Moore, Pierce Brosnan, et al. Connery's successors simply could never pull off every emotion that was necessary for the perfect James Bond. His only fault was returning in Never Say Never Again (1983) when he was clearly too old for the role, notwithstanding the screenwriters' attempt to work his age into the plot. Sean Connery was born on August 25, 1930 in Edinburgh, Scotland.

Sean Connery was an incredible Bond. He is without question a five star Bond. I rank him 2nd only to Lazenby. I rank Moore behind Connery, and that is very close. Sean Connery in the early days was magnificent. This guy was unreal in DN and FRWL, and he was like God in GF, and by TB Connery was God. But then Connery slipped up quite a bit. Lazenby was much better in OHMSS than Connery was in YOLT or DAF, his two films that sandwiched Lazenby's film, and Moore was much better in LALD, than Connery was in DAF. In YOLT Connery really was not as good as he had been. In DAF he was pretty good, but frankly Moore was better at that time for the role, and Lazenby ten times better. Connery's appearance in DAF, as compared to Lazenby's in OHMSS is hard to stomach thinking of the fact that DAF was intended to be Peter Hunt and Lazenby's film. Then there's NSNA. Sean was much improved in NSNA. He was far better than he had been in DAF or YOLT. But Sean was looking too old and NSNA just missed on too many levels. Although it did have some shockingly good moments. Connery's one-liners in the early days are still the best in movie history, and Connery's presence, his unprecedented sex appeal and his out of this world coolness, and God like status in the first four Bond movies keep him as an ultimate Bond forever. If Sean would have just made the first four I would rate him above Lazenby, but because his last 3 films were basically very weak next to Lazenby's film, and Lazenby's performance in OHMSS is so much better than Connery's in his last three films, it has to be Lazenby for the top spot. Lazenby was a better Bond than Connery, but Connery was the coolest guy in the world, and when he is in the Aston Martin in GF, that is Bond. Sean Connery was God in those GF/TB days. The first time he appears in DN, that is the coolest moment in movie history.

Hands down, the best Bond. My top five Bond movie were the first five of which Connery starred in. It's not that the other acotrs that followed Connery as 007 were bad, it's just that Connery is the mold for that role and impossible to top. Not to mention, Connery is a better actor overall than the other guys who played Bond.

Yes, he shaped the persona given by Fleming into the paradigm that all who have followed aim for. Still...too quick to brutality, too condescending to women, too...cruel. I know, it's a cruel business. I know, the books were a product of their time. But if you're going to fill larger than life shoes (poison-tipped daggers optional), such flaws are best left out. So for me, he rates below Dalton.

Bond - James Bond - the one and only. Whether you like this particular film genre or do not (I don't but know that many do) how could you even consider anyone else in the title role other than Connery? He may not be as prolific as some actors (Michael Cain and Gene Hackman spring to mind) but when he's part of a film he always leaves a memorable impression. One of the things I remember most about the Indiana Jones series was his not very long part as Indiana's father. No contest - Connery IS James Bond.
