This guy is the greatest when it comes to football. Whether or not you care for his jokes theres no denying his superior football intelligence. Bring him back to NFL Primetime NOW!
bcvsllc 02/09/2007
one word...WHOOP! he also does baseball & golf very well! one of the greatest in football!
Loerke 01/15/2007
Clearly likes what he does...second only to how much he likes his own voice. Really cares only for football. When ESPN assigns him to cover other sports, the result is an atrocity.
millarsux 12/18/2006
This guy with his lame song references his high pitched WHOOP! has got to go!!! He makes "Ross the Intern" look like Charles Bronson in comparison. He should go back to his old job as a critic rating buffets!
hotel283 04/13/2006
Anybody who would, during the course of rapid fire highlights, provide a player with an impromptu nickname like Mike "If Loving You Is Wrong Then I Don't Wan't To Be" Wright, has got to have an unusual talent.
JimmyJames 04/13/2006
The original classic grand-daddy of them all! Lead and others shall follow.
retro1968 02/15/2006
Seriously, what is wrong with this guy? And why the heck is he called Boomer? I cringe at the thought of him being front and center on MNF now that it is moving to ESPN.
tpsully 01/22/2006
I hate chris berman, he's unlistenable. I would rather get a root canal without anesthesia than listen to him. 3rd grade humor.
gamerman 01/01/2006
Did this guy start this crap? Thanks to Chris Berman, the espn analysts act like buffoons, can I find one analyst to just tell me the freakin' score! You don't have to rap or sing, don't tell me your crappy catch phrases, for example: A qb throws a touchdown, the espn clown says "you complete me." That's not so bad when used once in a while, but this fool says this every time a qb throws a touchdown! Back to Chris Berman, please stop trying to rhyme people's names. Instead of telling me the score, I have to listen to their crappy material!
1JohnDoeFan 09/20/2005
His career should be back, back.. GONE!!!
bill1948 09/20/2005
Chris BlubBerman makes my skin crawl! He,s got about as much wit as a Jerry Lewis movie. The singing of old rock ditties, the lame nicknames [Boy ! He really reaches!], and the sound effects ['Whoop'-in that falsetto voice] turns my stomach!!!! This oxygen thief must get paid by the word! Tubby is a major headache!
bowers4143 09/14/2005
..very annoying. seems that's what espn wants. let's get back..back..back to just giving me the facts and leave the opinions at the water cooler . he's trying to hard for those clever names. end it please!
fourkids 09/14/2005
Is too interested in reminding everyone how long he's been at ESPN. Usually does this by obtuse references to rock lyrics, a onetime entertaining trick that has become tiresome. And why do the other ESPN anchors seem to be so in awe of him? Will never be in the league of Vin Scully/Bob Costas/Al Michaels. Chris- you're too loud, too gimmicky, and you need to get over yourself.
bostonallthewa y 07/10/2005
one word.....WHOOP!!
bieds 06/02/2005
Very talented and knowledgeable. He has fun on the air and it shows. He makes the shows fun and interesting. I like the creative nicknames that he comes up with.
jimmydradio 05/17/2005
Don't like him, have never liked him, probably never will like him. He is one of the primary reasons I have been so turned off to watching sports on TV anymore. He turns sports reporting into a sideshow. Which I know people like instead of a just the fact ma'am type of approach like sportscasting used to be. but that's just how I feel. What he does to baseball especially is very painful. Shut up already.
B-Cash 04/05/2005
he's funny..he's smart...he knows his baseball and football...always watchin NFL Primetime for the last like 4-5 yrs...Rumblin,fumblin,bumblin.....fummmbllle...very good commentator on Primetime
ellis 04/01/2005
CB is one of the great hosts of this time. He is hysterical on NFL PrimeTime and still good on SportsCenter whenever he decides to host.
Timbo61 03/05/2005
Has been with ESPN all the way. Ever since I bagan to watch him, I've found him to be funny and insightful. I don't know who else could pull off making up all of those nicknames with bad puns, but I always laugh when he comes up with a new one.
mtbmlb 03/03/2005
I don't usually have respect for someone who sounds like a baritone Hank Azaria, but he is one of the factors that has made ESPN successful.
Undisputed 01/23/2005
I used to like this guy but now he is just a loud baffon. By the way ChrisO1981 your a complete moron.
ChrisO1981 01/12/2005
He seems to be out to please too many people. I don't know why he bounces around and does broadcasts on all these different sports. And I am really tired of his Top 10 Plays of the Week. They used to be awesome back when it was Patrick and Oberman, now we have to watch the worst highlights of the week like 3 hockey plays, 4 soccer plays and then a Monkey swinging a golf club or something.
Alexg681 01/04/2005
For years I liked this guy, but now I can't stand him. I'm tired of the phrases, sound effects, the nicknames, which some are good but some are awful, and all the Rock N' Roll references. ESPN loves him, and he should just do football, but they bring him out for all these important events. Like the Stanley Cup Finals, he doesn't do hockey all year, yet he's there doing highlights with Barry Melrose. He's OK on Baseball Tonight, but not very good broadcasting. But worst of all, the reason why he deserves 1 star is that he kisses ass as much as anyone. I heard him here on an NYC sports radio station, he was a guest shortly after the steroids scandal, and he said that he honestly believed Barry Bonds about not knowing that he took steroids. I know Berman is a Giants fan and wants to believe that, but come on, he can't seriously believe that.
vipersrt10 12/23/2004
What was once refreshing and sincere has turned into disruptive and superficial. He is more interested in getting himself and his act over than the event. He is very good at moderating and ad-libbing like on NFL Countdown and the NFL draft, but anywhere else, his act has been exposed. How many times can he bring up the tired old shwammmmmm that nobody cares about anymore? He even does this during baseball broadcasts. He should never be allowed near a baseball play-by-play assignment ever again. He was at his worst during the playoffs this year, dominating the microphone and constantly interrupting good observations by Rick Sutcliffe. People living here in Boston were disgusted by him. In the past years, I looked so forward to football season for NFL Prime Time. I tolerated his obvious bias toward the 49ers and the Bills, because his overall presentation was enjoyable. However, his annoying sound effects on fancy moves(woooop!!!!), the tired catch phrases(Marshall,Marshall,Marshall), Rock and Roll analogies(yes!! we know that you like music - congratulations), and overall loudness has turned away yet another former fan.
markel 12/05/2004
It's interesting to check out the ratings through the years here. Three years ago, Berman's ratings were generally positive. Since then, they've declined into downright hatred. Doesn't anyone at ESPN see he's overexposed, tired and doesn't have an original thought in his oversized head anymore? He has taken dead horses and beaten them into entirely new levels of death. And he sounds and looks less healthy each year. Give this guy a Stairmaster and a year off, and we can hope he never comes back, back, back, back....
badmancometh 10/16/2004
About 16 years ago, Berman and his NFL pregame crew were the best in the business, and my praise for Berman back then exceeded the adulations on the comments that were posted by others on this forum. On the outside, he looks like he muscles in on other big sporting events that he has no clue of and does a terrible job at commentating. He's not the same Berman of old and seems to be on the decline. The reason I'm commenting now is becasue I saw him do a baseball playoff game with Rick Sutcliffe and Tony Gwynn. Berman seemed very thinned skin and showed his obvious insecurities around knowledgable people of the game. His behavior really surprised me and I feel that he should stick to football, but his act is getting really old. I used to be really entertaind by Berman's wit and am disappointed with his current Bob Costas pompousness.

hilarious and brilliant. 'NUFF SAID!
slickwillie71 06/03/2004
His act is gotten old; if he were anywhere but ESPN, Bore-man would have been banished to a local gig 4-5 years ago. As much as he deserves credit for helping ESPN reach the heights it has, he is also a big reason why the network is unwatchable. The nickname thing is old and tiring and his lust for the Buffalo Bills is dull and predictable. Change it up, Chris. You used to be good.
louiethe20th 05/25/2004
Very colorful and puts an interesting spin on the names. NFL Primetime is my favorite that he does.
nmysz 03/15/2004
Talks like he has a hard-boiled egg stuck in his throat. Stick to the NFL.
BeanoCook 02/07/2004
Chris big butt Berman sucks.
fanofsports 01/31/2004
Hands down has got to be the worst television personality on air. There could NOT be anyone more annoying and arrogant than this self-serving windbag. When he comes on, I turn the volume off! Message to Boomer, Swami or whatever other self-appointed nickname you refer to yourself by, You are not bigger or more important than the sports you cover, get some new material and lose that nasty comb over that is covering your ever expanding fat bald head. That thing is as bad and outdated as your shtick and its not like you are actually fooling anybody to make them believe that you have a full head of hair
melott 01/26/2004
Why is he allowed to butt his way into doing other gigs besides NFL. He stinks at baseball, and was the worst golf host I've ever seen, during the 1st round of the '03 US Open. Lose the green jacket too, you didn't win the Masters.
larry_biz 12/23/2003
His act is old and tiring, hasn't been cutting edge ever. He Could Go All The Way was Cosell's brain child, not the fat bald guy. He is a caricature and useless. The only place he is larger than life is his waist.
scarletwingo 12/21/2003
Pretty darn good, but has started to believe his own hype....
dougom 09/06/2003
A moron. A one-note "personality" with a tiresome schtick. Perhaps he was amusing 20 years ago, when ESPN was new and needed the attention, but now has descended to the level of an embarassment. His famous "Bermanisms" were cute the first time, less cute the second time, and now are simply idiotic and irritating. I would have to go all the way to Rush Limbaugh to find a person less enjoyable commenting on sports. He should be retired and shown the door.
saladdin69 08/11/2003
Complete moron.
kman1582 07/17/2003
I used to love this guy but man, you know what's going to come out of his mouth before he even opens it, he's been saying the same stuff for over 20 years, and he is so biased towards the Bills, 49ers, and SF Giants, it's ridiculous.
hendo 07/16/2003
Maybe at one time the guy was good and original, but it's been so long that I can't remeber. Now he reminds me of somebody coming into the studio straight from an all-night bender, who thinks he can wing it by relying on the same old jokes and phrases. He is usually unprepared and can't even speak in complete sentences.
bodarc 06/19/2003
Now a confused shadow of his former self. He needs some kind of chemical therapy to get back on track. Just a clown with no new material.
grosegreg 06/02/2003
You can use the same jokes only so many times.
GHWBushFDRReag an 04/20/2003
This guy is the best thing that ever happened to ESPN. He is articulate, energetic, accurate, and a blast to listen to. I have been watching Chris for years.
robbo 04/08/2003
Most people don't realize that Berman's "He could go all the way" was lifted directly from Howard Cosell. But that's okay, these people can't be blamed for being ignorant. What I want to know is whose wiener is he petting at ESPN (where lots of the suits and talent reportedly like to have their wieners pet by colleagues) in order to keep that Schwami thing going, and unapologetically pick losers for a lifetime?
mickey61 03/19/2003
loud and annoying!!!!!

My prime example of a self promoter. ENOUGh with those REDICULOUS nickname. Bud "Painted" Black? Seesh!

A Niner faithful to the end. My favorite nickname is Jeff Conine the Barbarian.
djpruitt 02/01/2003
The Big Boomer....a great sports mind, too great at times. Master of the nickname game. His dedication to the Tampa NFL franchise is equaled by no one. One of the best.
