Costas has never impressed me. I don't know what it is, but he's just lacking something and I don't really enjoy listening to him.

This cerebral guy is arguably the best sportscaster on television. No one can conduct an interview like him.
X Factor Z 10/22/2007
What a putz.
superdave1 06/18/2007
I was having a great time watching an absolutely terrific US Open. And then...here came the pompous, blow-hard, poser, wanna-be, no-talent Bob Costas. Mark Twain said golf is a good walk ruined. The US Open was great entertainment ruined by Bob Costas! 1 star for this dim light only becasue you have to click a star to submit a review!
Loerke 01/15/2007
Clearly studied his SAT vocabulary, and never tires of showing it, yet has little concern about tiring his audience...
brownie 03/25/2006
There is something about him that is obnoxious and cheesy. Him and Jimmy Roberts both.
I'mTheOne 02/08/2006
I give him just an OK rating, because when he's good he's really good, but when he's bad, he's really bad. Most of the time he's allright but he can be a bit verbose sometimes and he can also act a little condescending and/or like a know-it-all at times. But overall he's decent to listen to most of the time.
McGowan 01/15/2006
Used to like him early on,but as I've gotten more knowledgeable,I find him to be an insufferable thinks-he-knows-it-all.And politically correct,as well, making him even worse.Oh well,at least he's not bombastic, like so many NFL hosts and play-by-play announcers.
gobolts 12/15/2005
He's had some great moments in the Olympics, he's kind of comical at times. He used to do a good basketball game.
trebon1038 10/10/2005
They don't get much better, I dont care what event he is at, he does his homework and earns respect from peers.
Kairho 09/25/2005
To great sports commentators like Costas, Holloway and the BLT killer ARE boring. Different strokes...
samjung23 09/10/2005
Oh the irony, a man who refused to do two Larry King shows as host because Natalee Hollaway and the BTK killer weren't stimulating enough, but yet can talk about brain-dead sports to thy kingdom come. Hey, I like sports too, and I like his commentating, but please, for a sports analyst to scoff at current events stories tells me one thing; he is a complete moron when it comes to real news stories. How a man can consider a story about a fat oaf linebacker more compelling than a national news story that deals with real, everday issues, is beyond me.
1JohnDoeFan 05/16/2005
Perfect voice and is the smartest of all sport personalities. I don't understand why there is always haters for someone who does their job without flaw. Bob Costas is brilliant and speaks with a tone of confidence and perfection. Who ever doesn't like the great Bob Costas is jealous and a idiot.
southparker9 04/22/2005
Just Ok. Too verbose for me. Seems to know his stuff. Very knowledgeable.
ellis 04/01/2005
Oh, stick to hosting and just get off of the games! This guy was trying to give an explanation of why there weren't many people at the gymnastics gym during the preliminary rounds of the Olympics. Why do we care?!
mtbmlb 03/03/2005
He creeps me out with his bug eyes, but other than that, he's a pretty valuable asset to sports in general.
hollywood42 02/28/2005
Complete tool. Biases emerge when doing his terrible broadcasting. He is the industry dirtbag.
ClassicTVFan47 10/08/2004
The best host of the Olympics, period. Costas did a fantastic job during NBC's primetime coverage of the Athens 2004 Olympic games, mixing professional, knowledgeable reporting with some great humor.
marvisfoleyrul es 10/06/2004
bob's ok but he's gotta realize that mickey mantle did not invent the universe in 1952.
mnecott 08/24/2004
He is not smart, he is not funny, he is an ass. First he ruins the World Series now the olypics. I thought I was going to cry when I heard his voice on the tape. GET RID OF HIM!!!!!
smackme 08/14/2004
Watching the Olympics opening ceremony pushed me to the rating. This man could not shut-up during the whole ceremony!
5550-99 08/13/2004
Who watched the Olympics opening ceremony? Bob Costas is the worst! Terrible jokes and doesn't know when to shut up. DUMP BOB COSTAS!
LanceRoxas 07/31/2004
Pompous windbag who interpolates meanings into athletic events for self congratulatory purposes. Bob, you're a sports commentator-and a poor one at that- get a grip!
Golf Lover 71 06/20/2004
Bob Costas' question to Retief Goosen at the trophy presentation at the U.S. Open golf tournament about the crowd rooting for another player was completely out of line. Costas is an embarrassment and showed himself to be a pompous jerk for asking such a question. He knows nothing about golf and golf etiquette.
Roach 04/06/2004
Great call and commentary, its too bad NBC doesn't have any real sports on.
stlsportsguy 04/03/2004
I personally don't think he was that great at play-by-play for baseball or basketball, but he is one the best of all time at studio hosting and interviewing.
BeanoCook 02/07/2004
Mr. Big Picture. No matter what the situation he will immediately tie it to an event 60 years ago and perhaps miss out on the events right before his eyes.
larry_biz 12/24/2003
Was great until he started believing all the hype. Lots of knowledge, but lots of biases come through. Still one of the best.
gopman79 11/03/2003
Not only is he a great broadcaster, he should be the commissioner of baseball too.
Philkid3 09/04/2003
Read his book and understand how brilliant this man is.
getback 05/12/2003
The Dean of his industry no doubt about it.
Wally Ballou 05/02/2003
His tendency toward pontification can get very old very fast, but Costas is still without peer for being able to handle so many assignments so capably. Smooth, eloquent, funny, smart, and passionate, Costas is THE premier sportscaster of our time.
CanadaSucks 03/04/2003
I know the rap against him - too cerebral, too deep. I like Costas. I like my announcers who can actually write and speak. He may be a dime-store philosopher but who says an amateur author and philosopher can't be a sports fan? Costas is a thinking man's broadcaster with a good voice. He has an ego, but what great sportscaster doesn't? He's one of the best.
mprater 03/04/2003
Do us a huge favor - take Selig's place as MLB commish...PLEASE!!!
backer2 01/20/2003
I guess it is either you love him or you hate him, but you got to love the man. George Will and Bob Costas are the two most eloquent speakers of our time.
grizman 01/19/2003
I have always found Costas to be over-rated. SUre, he has done most everything, and he is good as a "traffic director" in a pregame show, but the guy is obviously in love with himself. Tends to sensationalize things a bit, is really not the NBA and MLB expert he thinks he is, and he illustrated his total lack of understanding of baseball economics when he supported the MLB contraction plan. Costas knows where his paychecks come from, and is a good company boy.
thinkaboutit27 01/06/2003
I'll make this short and sweet. Everytime I watch Bob Costas on Inside the NFL, he seems so smug and condescending to people he interviews. He thinks he is all high and mighty and I like how the rest of the crew make fun of him about how he is not an ex-NFL player.
BigBadTA 11/29/2002
I can't stand him, he comes across like he is very egotistical. He's over-dramatic, and tries to be too intellectual. He doesn't just call it as he sees it, he tries to read way too much into it.
lukskywlkr. 10/17/2002
I used to like this guy, but now he just completely annoys me. Does he think about anything but baseball? Come on Bob, get a life.
Potch1214 11/07/2001
Opinionated. I don't agree with a lot of them. Guess that's why I don't like him that much.
ellajedlicka21 10/19/2001
Sort of annoying, but very versatile (he covers many sports for NBC).
Falcon 01/12/2001
He thinks he's too damn smart. No one refers to Greek tragedy during NBA. What was the Olympic stuff anyway?
Samlippman 01/10/2001
I am thrilled that Fox had the World Series this year because the prospect of listening to Costas over dramatize and over exaggerate every statement, play, and pointless antadote. The man will not just call the game, he must always add his personal opinions and blow every situation out of proportion. I find myself more preoccupied with his annoying style than I ever am with the game I was supposed to be watching. Get this man out of the booth and back into the studio! He is not eloquent-he just has a large vocabulary. His excitement is unsincere and hard to believe, because he is perpetually over excited.
Johnny Roulette 01/09/2001
His best qualities as an announcer come out when the game is baseball. You can tell that's where his passions lie. He is intelligent, well-spoken and any event involving him gains an instant air of credibility and importance, He does tend to find himself on a soapbox from time to time.
maddmarxx 01/09/2001
Ranks among the best of all time.Very knowledgable in several sports.Takes his job seriously but still has fun with it.
Neel27 01/08/2001
I admit that hearing Bob Costas say...."Yes!" during NBA games is kind of exciting. Yes, Bob Costas is one of those sports newscasters who does it all...Olympics, NBA games, even golf. I would say overall, Bob Costas makes watching sports semi-entertaining.
Socra Fin 12/20/2000
Bob Costas is a great announcer. He is very exciting and has lots of knowledge about sports. His voice gives suspense whether he talks about the Olympics, World Series, or NBA final. This guy knows his sports.
pinay 12/15/2000
What can I say about him? Well, he is mister sports commentator! He is the master of it all, especially when he did the late night commentating at the 2000 Olympics! He looks very knowledgeable and calm in front of cameras. I always love hearing his commentating, especially in special events like the Olympics, World Series or basketball!
magellan 10/18/2000
Clearly very bright, articulate, and versatile. Although he has an occasional tendency to be overbearing, he is still the best in the business. Costas has the rare gift of being able to do effective play by play, effective color commentary, and to excel in the role of host (e.g. 2000 Olympics).
1clh5518et 04/08/2000
