Hes got a kind of innocence around him, like Principal Skinner. Loyal and totally LOVESTRUCK for someone thats the same gender and about 5 times his age(Thats Mr Burns if you were wondering) He still knows what is right and what is wrong. More than often pulls Mr Burns out of a heap of trouble. This is a chracter you can relate to, whatever kind of person you are.Three cheers for Smithers!

Creepy character. If you ever seen No Way Out, he reminds me of the character played by Will Patton (the gay aide to the Senator who killed to protect the Senator's arse). I could see Smither's killing Homer on behalf of Mr. Burns.
Jamie McBain 06/11/2004
Keeps Mr. Burns in line, extremely loyal even when Burns does mean evil things.

kisses ass on the same level as ahmad rashad, arsenio hall, and that vacuous blonde bimbo who does the infomercials with ron popeil.

gives me the creeps too. He's a harmless perv like Moe, but Moe is actually a funny character.

He isn't funny unless he's with Mr.Burns.Those two are so good together.

Smithers is one of those characters you can instantly feel a real connection to, whatever your race, gender or sexual orientation. After all, who wouldn't identify with his struggle to always keep in authority's good books? It's his deep-down, genuine love and devotion to Mr Burns that makes his blatant toadiness so...sweet, and, while very strictly speaking a villain (he's personal assistant to the most tyrannical guy in Springfield), he nonetheless has a good moral code and can distinguish between what's slightly wrong and what's really wrong, and try to steer Mr Burns in the right direction. Smithers makes you laugh and he makes you smile, but, more importantly,he's cool because he has one of the most vivid and unique personalities in the entire show.

Smithers is certainly a necessity to the Simpsons. He is always so dedicated and loyal to Mr. Burns. Burns: ("Smithers, there's a rocket in my pocket.") Smithers: (You don't have to tell me, Sir.")

Smithers is funny as Mr. Burns's assistant. I remember in one episode he imagined Mr. Burns coming out of a cake and saying "Happy Birthday, Mr. Smithers." That was so funny. Smithers is always calling Burns "Sir". And he is a big fan of Malibu Stacey dolls, he has a whole collection. He lost his father when he was just a baby. That was so sad. Buth what would Mr. Burns be without Smithers?.

He's the perfect foil for the evil Mr Burns.

Smithers is great, (yes I know I gave him a good rating but bear with me) he's the underappreciated, overly devoted employee of the most heartless and ruthless man in Springfield. To make matters worse the poor sap is in love..in love with fella he just can't have. One of the best episodes was when he and Mr. Burns thought they were about to be killed, (I think in a melt down or something) and Smithers lets it out that he loves Mr. Burns. Then after they realize they're not going to die he tells Mr. Burns that he meant it only in a strictly platonic manner. The look Mr. Burns gives him is priceless, a sort of squinting, distrusting, I'm going to keep an eye on you from now on look. I didn't realize for the longest time that Smithers was gay it wasn't until someone pointed it out to me (or he became more overt) that I realized it and couldn't believe I hadn't notice before. Three cheers for Smithers!!

MR. BURNS

The consummate lacky... Smithers is the perfect complement to Burns' wicked cult of personality. Never appreciated, confused by his own sexuality, but always loyal, Smithers is the glue which holds the Burns empire intact.
