Take all that incentive bonus crap off the wheel, which no one aims for anyway, and just add a couple more 4-digit values to the wheel. Get rid of the toss-ups. Win up to $6,000 without the effort of wheel spinning?

This is another show which has remained timeless. Although, the format has changed over the years the premise still draws the viewers. I can't say it is a better show than it used to be when the contestants bought items for their homes from specific rooms with their winnings, just different. Many seem to prefer the cash in hand. I, for one, like all aspects of this show stretching my vocabulary and mental muscles as I attempt to solve the puzzles. May it continue for many years to come.

The original show, as it aired through 1995, is easily a 5-star classic of the gameshow world and TV in general. Who can't love the bright color wheel, the fun trilon-turning board with the flashing lights around it and the great "Changing Keys" theme? Lately, however, I feel that Wheel of Fortune--unlike The Price is Right--has lost some of its magic when compared to how it was in the 1980s and 1990s. The new board just isn't as cool with the touchscreen letters, and the theme song got progressively worse after 1992. The new concepts like the Toss-Up opening puzzles, variable spaces, and others have bogged down a simply enjoyable game. Compare that to the 1994-1995 season which is currently airing in repeats on GSN. It has the classic set, the classic board, simply spin/buy/guess/solve, and it even has my personal favorite category ever: MEGAWORD (sadly retired after one season). Still, overall, Wheel of Fortune is a good show both past and present and one of the few good-natured gameshows left that has a bright, stylized set, an actual theme song, good-natured hosts, and a positive attitude--unlike the positively revolting Moment of Truth or the eye-rolling Russian Roulette.

Merv did a good job creating this program.

I would have to say Wheel of Fortune is one of my favorite game shows.
GenghisTheHun 05/09/2006
One of my sisters tagged this a "Wheel of Boredom."

"Wheel of Flatulance" is more like it..."I'd like to buy a bowel,please"...Pffft!

This show is okay at best, although it's now a little disappointing. Some of the stuff they have on there today, such as the Toss-Up Puzzles, Prize Puzzles, and Mystery Rounds, does not fit the program. When I was younger, back in the late 80's until now, I used to love this program. I couldn't even miss an episode, but now I don't even care about missing it. Today, I see a lot of moronic contestants, like some who incorrectly solve a puzzle, on WOF. I also think there is too much screaming and hugging on that program now. As for WOF, I still watch it now and then, but not too often.

From HomerCat on 10/02/05 It is time to retire this old horse

i liked it better when they used to shop for prizes.

Wheel of Fortune has recently gone downhill. I want them to get rid of the new Prize Puzzle and Spin I.D crap. The bonus round also needs to go back to its W-H-E-E-L format it had until 2001. The host and hostess also need to be replaced because they are aging and are not the people they once were. I think WOF needs to go off the air already-enough is enough. My mom still forces me to watch it, unfortunately.

I went to see the show taped in Philly this summer and it was lots of fun. It was great to see how the show is put together and Pat and Vanna down-to-earth. I love the show!! While it does not happen very often, there have been winners of the $100,000. I may have missed out one definite winner. In addition, there have been a few misses on the bonus round puzzle where people did land on the $100,000 but did not guess the puzzle. 1)There was one time when it was Great Outdoors Week and a gentleman won that day. I just remember it distinctly because Vanna had on this sweater with like a horse on the front of it and I don't think the contestant had any family/friends in the audience so Vanna came down from the puzzleboard after he solved to celebrate with him. 2) There were these two sisters on Family Week who won the $100,000. Pat mentioned afterwards something to the effect of, There was an air of inevitability, because the two sisters won every single toss-up and puzzle. 3) There was this gentleman who spun the Wheel and was saying to himself, $100,000. And he ended up landing on $100,000 and solving the puzzle. I just remember Vanna coming down again from the puzzleboard because he too was by himself and she went and hugged him. 4) There was like this elderly lady named Nancy who in the main part of the show won about $5,500 but made it to the bonus round. And then she ended up solving the bonus puzzle and winning the $100,000. I just remember that show particularly well because it was a fun show all around. One contestant was a lady and she solved the toss-ups really quickly. And then the other contestant was a man who was a drama teacher who when he introduced himself said he had been sippin' on Margaritas before the show. Sajak replied that there would be no more caffeine for that contestant. Nancy was also quite funny too, because after she solved one puzzle, Pat walked over to her and said, I like your style kid. Nancy replied, I like yours too, we'll meet later. Pat then replied, I rarely get hit-on right on the show. Truly one of the funniest episodes of Wheel I have ever seen.

gets anoing if u watch it too much but its cool ive never seen anyone win 100,000 dollars yet
Mr.Political 10/28/2004
It's fun to guess what the board spells out but Pat has got to go! He doesn't bring anything substantial to the show.
James Danco 09/08/2004
Great show with a lot of amusement and uniqueness.
persleyl 04/22/2004
I watch this show but not all the time and i thank it is ok.
cromulance 02/23/2004
This used to be my favorite game show (if not my favorite TV show in general) when I was younger, but nowadays I find it kind of boring. I still can get a nostalgic kick out of watching the '80s episodes on GSN, but the new ones are painful to watch for me.
Majibb 09/11/2003
the show is fun, but man the contestants are lacking in common sense.
icemanatantart ica 08/30/2003
No 2 on the game show list. The interaction between Pat an Vanna has seemed to have disappeared, but a great show none-the-less.
Sajak16 06/30/2003
The greatest Game Show of all time, in my opinion. Easy to understand, you can play at home, and root for the contestants. Though some (like MediaLife Magazine) relagte Wheel to old demographics, most of it's audience is adults 25-54; the second most desired demographic. (right behind 18-35). This show should be # 2 on this list, right behind Price

I have a hard time watching this these days. It's gotten to be a parody of itself. I dislike the endless "before and after" puzzles. The contestants seem to be picked right off the street, and on average are annoying. Pat Sajak has been going through the motions for years and there's no end in sight.
nutt 04/09/2003
Needs updating it is so boring and old fashioned
mysteryguyfrom mi 01/22/2003
How is this dumb show still on the air? Maybe because dumb people still watch it?
SugarKane167 12/07/2002
I only watch it when I'm at my Grandma's but hey! I'm better at this than jeopardy!
Fondew1 10/31/2002
Vanna...still the absolute best "Barbie Doll" on TV...bar none. She alone makes watching the show worthwhile!
nikkiautry 10/25/2002
Still the best game show of all time. I would love to be a guest on it. Is it just me or did Vanna White get a face lift?? And why is she acting like she is turning the letters when its all computerized now??? Oh well. Still love the show.
faniam 08/16/2002
This is one of my favorite game shows--its been on for ages. Don't take lots of smarts to play --its just entertainment.
typhoon 07/28/2002

LoneUSFullHous eFan 05/26/2002
My mother likes it, I would rather watch Jeopardy.
whitedevil311 03/20/2002
I heard that Vanna White has walked thousands of miles flippin letters on that show.
FOLrocks1 02/09/2002
This is my ALL TIME favorite game show! I think it is fun to watch and it is very fun to play! I like when Vanna turned the letters better than pressing them though!
hOtBaBie12701 12/10/2001
This show is sure A GREAT ONE! I love it; it's funny, interesting, and just naturally a great show. Vanna is gorgeous, I can't beleieve she had 2 kids(i think it's 2). Pat's a great host, as well!! I don't know what I would do with out Wheel of fortune every night or so. It is a good background show, too(to watch while online or whatever).
callmetootie 07/30/2001
Just another game show.
kiwi8577 07/09/2001
Great show! But, would someone please remember to feed Vanna now and then.....
lovepalovepa 02/23/2001
good show for the young and old
JonWeHo 01/27/2001
What exactly is the point of Vanna White now that the board is computerized. I understood when she actually had to turn the letters, but now WHY IS SHE THERE?
slnoh 12/20/2000
BORING !!!!!
dhec4450du 03/02/2000
Some classics are a little too subdued compared to the current trend, and "Wheel of Fortune" is one of them. Now relegated to the lifestyles of the "old-fashioned" demographic, "Wheel" offers little challenge, less strategy, and almost no personality. Essentially a perfect show to have on in the background while doing something else.
ErictheFederal ist 02/10/2000
I remember watching it a lot, I even got the 'Wheel of Fortune' board game, but I can't remember what it was all about or why I liked it. Maybe because it's primitive?
Naughty Pixie 11/28/1999
I like it!

All programs which give more money to people who already have a decent life and arent starving like people on other continents who dont even know what tv is, are wrong. This money should be used to make a difference in the world.
swan1763et 11/27/1999
90 % luck, but fun to watch.
magellan 11/23/1999
Only in America can the girl who flips the letters on a mediocre gameshow become a national treasure. Long live culture!
