Jim Carrey was absolutely wonderful as the Grinch. What a wonderful holiday movie! Ron Howard is a great director!

With the assistance of the author himself, the brillaint Chuck Jones stretches the book out with some additional text and a few great songs and out does the original. The Boris Karloff reading and Thurl Ravenscroft (Tony the Tiger) singing are classic. The Ron Howard/Jim Carey film version is a crime against childhood.

Commercial Christmas will lose to keeping Christmas in your heart everytime.

its a good movie i love watching this movie.
Nillon24 08/28/2008
It's still funny after all these years. Gotta love that "Mr. Grinch" song. Also manages a "spirit of Xmas" message without having a Jesus agenda. (Charlie Brown, I'm looking at you)
twansalem 08/28/2008
This is arguably the best of the Christmas cartoon specials. It's hard to beat Dr. Seuss.
®å©îñ Gî®l 08/28/2008
how could you not like the grinch!
Lauramanaen 08/25/2008
However the original is the best
KRISTYN718 08/23/2008
A must see each and every Christmas....and any other time of year!
sfalconer 04/27/2005
When they first announced that they were going to make this movie I wondered how they were going to stretch it out. Well the answer was to fill it with mindless filler that did not help the plot. The costumes are great and Jim is wonderful as usual but it just did not have a plot to make a movie. The dialog was bad as was most of the acting, sans Jim. Stop Ron before he makes another Dr. Seuss movie.
Sharon3802 12/11/2004
This is a great special! Boris Karloff did a fantastic job as the narrator.
alpepper 12/02/2004
I am rating the animated version. It's one of my favorites. Can you believe the story is narrated by Boris Karloff. I think I saw it when it first came out and have seen it just about every year since. The Movie was pretty good. Jim Carrey did a credible job of capturing the Grinch's personna.
peanuts53042 12/16/2003
you gotta love this classic
pikachan 07/23/2003
An excellent christmas special. I watch it every christmas. A mean grinch that lives in a cave in a mountain near whoville where everyone loves christmas. The grinch hates christmas and gets an idea about stealing christmas. he disguises as santa and thinks that taking all the christmas related items would ruin christmas. But learns soon about the true meaning of christmas. A great story taken from Dr Seuss' book. a watchable christmas treat.
pigwiggle 12/24/2002
This is the best Christmas special of a cartoon variety ever made. With Boris Karloff narrating it it is truely a classic. Forget the live version movie with Jim Carey, this is the one to watch.
Jason1972 12/18/2002
Always a bona fide classic that'll never grow old.
hrod 11/11/2002
An Oscar is in order for this one. The Grinch has it all. A great story by Dr.Suess, directed by the great Chuck Jones, and Boris Karloff is the narrator(and the voice of the Grinch too)what more do you need!.
lukskywlkr. 10/24/2002
I watch this at least a half dozen times every Christmas season. It is a true classic. Just don't taint the good name of this cartoon by mentioning it in the same breath as the crappy Jim Carrey movie version.
LoneUSFullHous eFan 03/30/2002
I still look forward to this every year. Don't get the live version though, it is garbage.
Snoopy 12/16/2001
It's a classic story, but it just doesn't hold my interest any more, unlike Charlie Brown's Christmas special. The live-action movie with Jim Carrey was refreshing and funny.
ellajedlicka21 12/15/2001
This has to be the most famous Christmas/holiday special known to America. Most everyone is familiar with and loves the story of How the Grinch Stole Christmas and his deft deception of Hooville.
CastleBee 12/10/2001
I have been a fan of the great Dr. Seuss since I first heard the words "I am Sam, Sam I am" as a young child around 40 years ago. This wonderful short animated feature represents to me the height of the man's genius, the depth of his heart and his timeless appeal. It is simple, funny, intriguing and moving and has the unique ability to capture the true, meaning of Christmas. The Grinch is an exceptional blend of shear imagination and the very real message of hope, love and joy that we sometimes have to strain to see behind the more materialistic façade of the annual Christmas hoopla.
Potch1214 11/27/2001
The classic. That voice, that sneer, those Who's & Boris Karloff just for kicks. This and Charlie Brown are the two best ever made. Dr. Seuss was a genius! The story of the Grinch is a classic and recommended for kids of all ages!
Molfan 10/02/2001
One of the more original Christmas stories. I have been watching this since it came out in the mid sixties. and now my children watch it every year. A mean old Grinch with a small heart lives on top of a mountain and hates Christmas and the joy and happiness that goes with it. He vows to steal Christmas. On Christmas Eve. He goes to the town with his little dog Max. and steals everthing. Yet he finds out that the towns people were still happy without the "things" they lost and still celebrated. AFter an "accident" the Grinches heart grows Larger and joins the town people in their celebration.A real nice Christmas story.
afterglow70 06/21/2001
My all time childhood favorite. This special was the best part of Christmas. Took the kids to see the movie when it came out and they loved it. Jim Carrey did a phenomenal job of the Gridge.
travolta_lover 06/19/2001
An awsume show!It is one that you definetly make a point to watch every year!
Beach Bum 06/16/2001
You're a mean one....Mr. Grinch!
Spiralingmarce 05/21/2001
There's just something about a Dr. Seuss cartoon to teach kids the value of things. The Whos are often a little TOO cute, but it's forgivable if it keeps the kids busy, right?
fogno 05/14/2001
my all-time favorite. great tunes, great animation.
angel859500 12/23/2000
I love the original Grinch, and have yet to see the Jim Carrey remake. I have always loved the original and hope that the remake doesn't destoy it.
flai4749om 12/14/2000
It's sad to say but this simple half-hour cartoon is SO much better than the multi-million dollar Jim Carrey spectacle. The Grinch rules! (As the song so eloquently puts it: "Stink, stank, stunk.")
PoorOldEdgarDe rby 09/22/2000
Can't beat the Grinch for a Christmas special. What a wonderful treat that so many of these specials that were just coming out when I was a kid are still around today and are popular with every generation. Mmmhh roast beast...
wild8266om 07/16/2000
Please do not make a movie out of this. Hasn't Hollywood learned it's lesson yet?
Sunf2915om 12/12/1999
Another holiday winner! Who doesn't love the good doctor and his 'Grinch'! The dog is great!
kaow3122et 12/11/1999
The Best Christmas Special except 'The Night the Animals Talked' but can't find that one anymore. It says it so wonderfully. "it without packages boxes or bages, maybe Christmas 'he thought' means a little bit more!" When we watch it we can all say all the line verbatim, it's a trip!
jeha3096et 12/11/1999
I don't really watch TV, and yet I still love this one!
pand3045et 12/11/1999
I like it because it shows people of all ages that it is never too late to change.
chel3020et 12/11/1999
it teaches a deeper meaning behind Christmas
