While I generally agree with the assessment of the esteemed musical observer ILikePie, I would doc them a 1/4 star for their limited range. Along with The Band and Gram Parsons, I think they are responsible for the Americana genre and all of its roots affiliated cousins especially Alt Country. Their sadly short tenure on the charts resulted in a remarkable half dozen albums in 3 or 4 years before they disintigrated in personnel/legal squabbles. One of a handful of groups that define the classic rock genre, their influence is still as powerful today as it was 5 years after they broke up. But the brightest stars burn briefest as a rule.

The best band in the world ever. Period.

In all seriousness, I frequent a rock forum and we once had a discussion about bands that are universally liked. The only one we could all agree on was Creedence Clearwater Revival.
