well, extra cash is always great! i don't suppose it's a neccessity for new year's eve, though, since i've survived many without. i'm usually pretty short on extra cash after Christmas.

You should always have at least SOME cash on you all the time, but on New Year's Eve, you should be careful; a person might get drunk and do some pretty compulsive things that you might regret the next morning with cash.

I brought out to much money, got drunk and ended up buying loads of rounds and giving the rest to charity. Charity workers should be bared from pubs. I have a habit of giving them all my money when im drunk. IM BROKE!!!

Extra cash is always a nice thing to have but really only necessary if you're spending New Year's in a bar environment. If you are celebrating at a friends house or somewhere in between I would assume all necessities have been accounted for.

It's going to be like confederate money after the government collapses. Better to stockpile basic tools -- fishhooks, plows, seeds -- so that you're prepared for the devolution to a subsistence agrarian economy.

Extra cash is a good call -- I heard that ATMs in Japan are already going bonkers. Just make sure you don't wind up in Times Square with your cash in a prominent pocket!
