I'm not sure about the cell phone on NYE....unless you want to brag to your friends in the Pacific time zone that they are still stuck in 2008.

Yeah, right, I'm turning that sucker off as soon as 11:30 hits. I want to focus on the here and now, and I wouldn't want to distract someone in the middle of their celebrations. However, I might send over a text message to one of my friends a little time after midnight--that way, if he's busy, he won't get disturbed.

A mobile phone is handy, but the police must let you make one phone call.

Absolutely!! You can't be with everyone you care about on the New Year's and it is at least nice to say to them happy new year even though distance may separate you. I for one always have my cell phone with me. It's good to be in contact at all times.

Why would you want to take your phone? I would leave mine at home so no one could phone me w/ the annoying "Happy New Year" speech!

Not a chance with getting through. Even on Boxing Day you get problems.
