For starters, it's a misnomer since all but one of the teams elible to participate come from one country. Second, the event has lost some of its lustre now that it isn't the only time that NL and AL teams meet. And third, 5 of the last 10 series have been sweeps and 2 more have only gone 5 games, so it hasn't exactly been great competitive baseball.

Second only to the Super Bowl. I really love the World Series now since my Red Sox have been playing and winning them lately, Go SOX!

The best sport and championship there is. A 7 game series is the only way to determine a true winner. a one game series is lame, exciting but lame because you don't always know who the better team truly is

Too long, too boring, too much crotch and ass scratching, too much spitting, the team fight brawls seem staged(guys are looking to be held back!), Joe Buck, and I hate that darn cartoon baseball explaining the game. Hey if I wanted a cartoon baseball telling me what a curveball is I'd watch Seseme Street!

True classic. The emotions and strategies that go into the series (and baseball in general) are like watching a good movie, a true original. These people, on that field, know nothing else, they have taken their minds off everything else and now the events in front of them are moving in slow motion. Its a great mind release from all the things going on in the real world.

(3/10)It doesn't come down to one game like certain other sports, but it's still good.(3/18) Ignatius-J-Reilly, I should have been more clear. What I meant is that there isn't just one game played in the championship. Sorry for the confusion.

Not that important outside USA. Still not bad.
ChrisO1981 01/08/2005
It used to be much more fun to watch when the games didn't last 5 hours.

TriSec got his/her wish! It's a great event. It's also interesting how in the last few years the underdog has won.
irishgit 11/30/2004
It shouldn't come as a surprise that I rate this highly. Almost every post-season seems to provide some strong dramatic element, unlikely hero, or stunning performance. For my money, its the best championship in professional sports.

Not seen at all elsewhere unless you have cable. I did see the Red Sox win and having been to the Stadium I can get a sense of the elation. Have also been to Wrigley Park in Chicago. I would like to see a game next time I'm over there. PS: Nobody has mentioned the Derby or the Monaco Grand Prix on this list.
TriSec 08/09/2004
This would be great if somebody other than the frickin' Yankees could win it.
Jimbo04 07/25/2004
Great when a team is in the World Series other than the Yankees. 26 Championships are enough. 2001 and 1991 go down as the two best in this generation. 2003 i couldn't watch, because both red sox and cubs lost.
chrisk1177 03/09/2004
Better than the regular season, but not much.
melott 01/27/2004
never ending drama, it is a classic unmatched by any event in America. Seven games played in eight days, unlike the NBA which can take 14 days for a series.

I know baseball is supposed to be America's past time. It is part of our culture, but why do we call it the World Series? I mean isn't that a bit arrogant or conceited? Only American teams play unless you count teams from Canada. The Florida Marlins didn't play against say The Swedish Chefs. It's not a World Series if the teams are only from North America. Still of all the sports championships I'd rather baseball than anything else.
VirileVagabond 11/14/2003
There is something a bit magical about the World Series. Usually to have that extra something, a championship playoff needs to be single elimination, but baseball pulls it off anyway (as opposed to the NBA Finals). This is probably due to the fact that a baseball game has no clock, but rather doesn't end until the last out. Most every series has its controversial moments and periods of high drama. Easily the pinnacle of America's pastime.
mgriff73 04/04/2003
The world sereies is great if they make it that far.
Jason1972 12/09/2002
It's too much "soap opera" because there's more than one game invlved.
kbob 11/04/2002
Great to watch, even better when the Yankees are not playing!
Teaseress 05/14/2002
Sounds good and I wouldn't mind watching. I just don't see why the hell its called the World Series when the competition just consists of American teams.....
Potch1214 12/28/2001
The grand old games fall classic. The piece-de-resistance. The big Kahuna. Who didn't want to be at the plate in the bottom of the ninth inning trying to win a World Series when they were a kid? Nobody!

Baseball is not a sport...it is a religion(one over which few people have ever been killed over). Baseball is live-action chess with humans pieces. NOTHING compares to a tight, seven game World Series. And now that the Braves are quite finished, we can watch some competitive games again, since the Yanks have aged themselves to an even keel with the other good teams in the league. The last time I recall missing a World Series game was in 1988, and that was only because I was in jail.

<yawn> Rounders. With bigger bats.

Somebody please beat the Yankees for crying out loud. They haven't lost a World Series game since 1996 when my Braves beat them the first two games. I love the World Series, but hate New York. The only good thing about the Mets and the Yankees playing each other is that New York is going to lose!!!!
nyyanksfan 02/01/2000
Why else would it be called the World Series? The National League vs The American League....oh baby I love this country! Whose got a problem with that? go Yanks!! 3Pete
ljri2960om 02/01/2000
2 teams...7 games...it doesn't get any better!
Mc-D 01/31/2000
It is much better if the Yankees win. Otherwise it is of no consequence or actively bad(if they're in it and lose).
thor485om 01/26/2000
The only time of year that baseball is good on TV.
suzk803om 01/24/2000
As long as the Yankees are involved... who am I kidding?! The Yankees will ALWAYS be involved!
