Forget the fact that most of contempary music is mindless dreck, this years awards, aired on FOX, showed that network standards are, sadly, a thing of the past. Paris Hilton and Nicole Ritchie were talking about their mindless reality show, The Simple Life. They then made a stomach-curdling joke about cow feces, complete with the f-word. In the eastern half of the united states, this word went UNCENSORED ON BROADCAST TELEVISION! Fox issued a useless apology, but that's all. I have to ask, are the people at the FCC (who are supposed to keep radio and TV from sliding completely into the sewers) even AWAKE?

21 years ago, Queen won a Billboard Award for the Top Crossover Single ("Another One Bites the Dust"). Boy, would I love have loved to see that show. Now the only bands who win the awards are the crappy ones who's awful noises seem to be selling well. The awards have lost all integrity and they never have good bands like R.E.M or U2 perform. The BB Awards have gone so far down the tubes and I don't think there is much hope of them ever recovering. Take care, everyone!

This is all based on record sales and does not really agree with my tastes. i am not sure I fundamentally agree that items that sell the most mean they are the best and in turn warrant awards.

At least this show can make a decent claim to being representative of popular choice, which distinguishes it from the Grammys. But, since it's based on the Billboard charts, which everyone can see, it's not exactly suspenseful. They should just issue a press release with the winners and skip the boring show.
