Wimbledon (Tennis) 5

The most prestigious title in tennis, just ahead of the US Open, French Open and Australian Open tournaments. Tennis was invented on grass, and Wimbledon manages to uphold that tradition on its famously manicured courts. Balls bounce faster on grass than on hardcourts or clay, so this rewards the players with powerful serves, and fast reflexes, and go-for-broke flashiness like Andy Roddick, Serena Williams, and Maria Sharpova are known for. With one of the largest TV audiences for a non-team sport, this tournament becomes the ultimate test in individual athletes handling the pressure of the spotlight to outfinesse, outrun, and outwit opponents. Close matches tend to come down to battles of fierce psychological will. England certainly knows how to put on a great tournament each summer, with a unique flavor you can't get anywhere else.

I think tennis is about as compelling a sport as competition housepainting. I'll give this an extra star for the ambience of the venue.

Nice lawn. Now let me go back to sleep. Tennis used to be good back before the invention of the composite racquet, when skill was paramount. Now it's all about who has the biggest cannon.

The Mother of all Tennis championships. Name me one professional tennis player past or present that hasn't dreamt of winning at Wimbledon or even better count the amount that retired after winning there (Pete Sampras anyone??). It makes the Australian Open look like a game in the park, the French Open a joke and blows the US Open completely off the ricochet. I don't know what it is that makes Wimbledon special. The time of year? Traditional white clothing for players to play tennis? The involvement of royalty? Or the mere fact its been an open stage for some of the best talents in either winning or making their debut (Elena Dokic, Martina Hingis, Pete Sampras, Martina Natratlova, Maria Sharpova, Venus and Sarena Williams, Steffi Graff). It's more watchable than the other tennis championships with its fair share of drama and so unpredictable.

Tennis fans love this and most people tune in towards the finals. A long dramatic match on a hot day is exciting stuff.

Now I like tennis, but I love Wimbledon. It sticks out like the Indy 500 for open wheel racing, the Daytona 500 for stock car racing, the College World Series for college baseball, and The Masters for Golf. I don't normally watch any of these sports except for that one time (and I barely watch the Daytona 500), but Wimbledon sticks out. I love Wimbledon. I have grown to somewhat idolize the champions and the longshots. Besides the Russian chicks (which save me when all the other people I root for are out), it is just plain exciting. I love Wimbledon. Period.

I am a huge tennis fan, and I love to watch tennis played on grass because it's not something you see too often. The one thing I don't understand is why Wimbledon is considered the biggest tournament in the world. I know it's the oldest one, but think about this: there are very few good grass court players on the professional tour, but you look at the number of good hardcourt and clay court players and there are dozens. By that reckoning, shouldn't the U.S. or French Open be the biggest, because you have to beat more good players to win them.

The crown jewel of professional tennis. The series nearly every professional tennis player wants to win.

The "Big One" for tennis. Have watched at least some of it every year since I was about 14 and discovered short skirts in women's tennis. All right, a sexist reason to start watching, but I have truly come to love the game as a result.

The male stars of the 90's don't compare to the stars of the 80's. I thought I never say this but bring back the 80,s. If it weren’t for the women I would have no interest in it. Then again, women stars lately are getting as boring as the men with all this power serving and whats worst some of them are starting to look like men. I suppose we are witnessing the next evoltion in man.. .

Of the four tennis majors, Wimbledon is clearly the most prestigious, which makes it the most fun to watch. Now that Agassi is back on his game, I'm hoping he and Sampras can maintain a solid rivalry. Love those all-American finals.
