Lyman Great Plains 4

bought a finished rifle this week 9-9-09 from DNR sports for $468 and got it in 3 days the stock was unfinished and i had to do some inleting to get the barrel to fit . the trigger guard had a few scrathes on it. i expected a little higher quality from lyman but things are tough all over i guess anyway with my little 50 flintlock i will allways be able to shoot as long as theres rocks in the ground and livestock pens

I built a .54 kit, browned the metal, no stain on the wood, just linseed oil. It shoots mickey Mouse heads at 50 yds with 85 gr FFF and Lee REAL home cast bullets. One of the best looking and best shooting guns I own. Heavy to carry but great in a stand.

My .50 cal left hand percussion rifle came with a screwed up barrel, the nipple and the hammer  wouldn't line up right, had to send it back in, they put a new barrel on it and sent it back to me, when i put the primative sight in it, it was loose so i ordered another sight, it slid right threw the dovetail, i shimed up the better fitting of the two sights with copper shims and sighted it in, then used green loctite to seal it together, seems to be working fine now, besides all the trouble it was, i really like the rifle, it shoots great, handles well and has the classic look of a plains rifle.

Ive only had my Great Plains for a few months now. It's a .54 cap lock and love it. 3.5 inch 5 shot groups at 100 yds. This will be my Elk rifle this fall. Very crisp trigger, fast lock, reliable ignition, well balanced good looking.

Ive had my great plains rifle since 96, its a 54 cal. love it! still has the original barrel 4 out of 5 shots on a paper plate (off hand) with patch and ball and iron sights at 100yrds. what else can I ask for?. The .535 ball with a .015 patch works well. Thanks guys.

The Lyman Great Plains rifle is one of the best rifles that I own. It is accurate, reliable, and rugged. I have both flint and percussion, and both are fast locks, with good ignition. They are balanced very well.

I've had my Great Plains since '97, it's a 54 cal. I love the heck out of it! It's very accuate and dependable. It shoots the .530 great and I'm playing with the .535 now.
