Hands down, best game ever made for Playstation. Story line, replay ability, music, graphics (for its time), and battle sequences are all extremely impressive, to this day. Buy this game, love this game, name your kid cloud... whatever you want. Just get it

This game in general is what started it for me as well in the FF series. The game has very background deep characters my favorite of which is Vincent. he not only looks like a total badass but his "LIMIT BREAK" was one of my favorites lo. At 1 point he turns into a hocket masked loooking guy with a chainsaw, sorta like Jason ! LOLThe graphics [for its time] were the best EVER made and to this day they still amaze me in comparison to other games. This game is so successful that they've branched other games off of THIS Final Fantasy story alone. Vincent has his own game, cloud has his own movie out with zack and sephiroth etc. It just ROCKS. Cloud is also feature in that Kindom hearts or something like that right?AMAZING!

Those who don't like it may need to play this game a little longer to get a taste of what others are talking about. I myself was discouraged the first time I tried. The second time, I was more or less forced to play it because I was stuck in somewhere feeling really bored without anything else to entertain myself. What a surprise, and there I found my new love for RPG games. This game started it all for me, and I think I was very lucky to have that opportunity to be forced to play it. Fantastic music and characters. I can't say I'm a big fan of the storyline compared to the others in the series, but this is definitely one of the best.

I really hate it when people say this over rated cos their clearly judging it without playing it for more than 5 mins and skipping all the text boxs, that right you have to read acutally engage your brain. These graphics werent always bad, my older brother tells me he and his friends starred at the screen in utter disbelief in the graphics, which i find hard to believe but the artwork is stunning and the music gripping but best of all orginal and he story, well the story was like the greatest movie of all time but the length of a book. I just wish i could marvel at the graphics like my brother did. If a sequal or even just a remake came out on ps3 I would steal my daddys que and sell it to buy a ps3. Its such a good game I dont even know why the fuck I wrote that, I was in a trace remembering all the good times.
ps- someone said they started to act like cloud after playing it, well i grew up watching my brothers play this and then played it myself manytimes and I always scatch the back of my head and shurg my shoulders without thinking, crazy eh?

Best Final Fantasy ever.
ILikePie 01/02/2007
Sorry, but I've never been able to get into FF. I've always found it dull, and despite my friends' assurances that FF7 is the best game EVER, I found it boring beyond belief and the graphics look like a direct port from the GameBoy. Overrated is the word.

A beautiful immersive gaming experience that, IMO, has yet to be equaled. After awhile I seemed to take on the Cloud persona while playing the game. The storyline itself, was Oscar worthy. The visuals (given the times) were extraordinary. The mechanicals, and the user interface were top-notch. Truly one for the ages...

i cant believe u guys actually liked this game.

12/9/04: So far, where I'm at, it has the best story that I've ever experienced. It truly is the best no matter if it is pixelated. I wished that this game was on GameCube, but it is, nonetheless, a gripping and memorable game. I cannot wait to see the end... >update: It is a great one ot see as I finally finished the American version. My bad for spoiling the ending, but you will be a little puzzled in a good way if there will be an ending. All questions will be answered when the movie comes out. A must have for anyone owning any version of the PS consoles.
jirai 01/07/2005
The graphics where pretty bad (I wish that that they made the characters more lifelike instead of looking like Virtual Fighter fighters). But it has the best story out of any game out there, which alone is worth it getting 5 stars. The music with so-so, with a couple of memorable tracks.
Seraph 09/29/2004
Sometimes I enjoy watching my brother play a game rather than playing it myself. This was especially true with Final Fantasy VII, not because the gameplay was poor, but because the storyline is so rich and beautiful and shocking that it was like watching a movie.

It's a toss up between Final Fantasy 8 and this game for my favorite game. I tend to love them very much. Final Fantasy is one of the best series of games ever created. The other ones are Zelda and Harvest Moon.
damagedjustice metal 04/29/2004
ONE of the best! Final Fantasy never dies! Best series...and this is the first one ive played and beat. A classic.

a great hit for sony. i bet nintendo was kicking themselves trying to compete with sony when this game was released. to bad they never had this on a nintendo system. cloud is a badass. i'm not sure if anyone can compete with cloud for being a badass. tifa is really hot. theres plenty here to keep someone busy in front of there ps1. its so great your jaw will drop.

Though now showing its age, FF7 remains a landmark in not only the role-playing game universe but the beggining of a new chapter in the gaming world. Starting off in the slums of a corporate owned gorgeously noir metropolis (unconventional to the playstation at the time, there are NO loading screens between FMV and the action, and it seamlessly flows from the vast overview of the city to the action on the ground, what black magic is this?!) it's fairly obvious this game is something special. Combining plot elements of corporate greed, corruption, love, betrayal and the most reflective of tradgedy the game manages to create a diverse cast of characters with their own attitudes and agendas whilst continually leaving you in awe of the landscape and the epic, unexplored nature of the world. Using an unprecedented ATB (Active time battle) system as well as creating the idea of materia that grows and evolves with the character, not to mention the innovative concept of limit breaks which can shift the course of comabt instantly (particularly interesting in adding a strategic element to the game in that the more damage you recieve the closer you get to your next limit break). The plot is nowhere near as silly and cliched as previous FF outings and rest assured you will not be rescuing any princesses or gathering any crystals, rather you might be cross-dressing to get closer to the local crime lord or snowboarding down pistes to reach the location of your adversary. On the subject of which, all the mini-games are superbly executed and provide plenty of arcade distraction for the more action orientated gamer. With a glorious soundtrack which peaked at number 1 in the Japanese album charts for weeks on end this game provides a truly feel. FF7 has incredible longevity estimated at between 45 and 70 hours of gameplay. Less a game and more of an experience, one that I will never forget.

Theres really no way to describe how perfect this game is. Everything is flawless, from the story, music, and characters. This is easily the greatest game every made. Some may say it's boring, but they just haven't taken the time to experience a mastrpiece.
Spaz 08/16/2003
FF7 is probably the best game i have ever played and one of the best of the Final Fantasy series. Its got good graphics and a great storyline, and its a challenge to play. its all around great!

AndyInAmerica 03/11/2002
Up there with the greatest games ever made, but not the greatest. I must say that the couple of people who gave this a 1 star gotta be mexican or somethin, 1 star impossible.
Alucard 12/06/2001
this game has it all the interesting game play and the unique storyline. i love this game i have gone weeks without batheing eating or any of the natural bodily needs playing this game. The Waffler 11/04/2001
The best video game ever. A classic, epic RPG. Characters and storyline intertwine perfectly in an adventure that snatches you in and holds you until the very satisfying finale.
Jemnezmy 08/24/2001
The best break-through game using CGI movies of all time.
Iamopinionated 07/13/2001
I see absolutely nothing wrong with this game. Of all of the RPGs I've ever played, not one of them has a better story line than FF7. Although it deviates from the traditional FFs a little, it's features such as materia make the game more complex and more fun. Sephiroth is a great villain, although his plots are somewhat confusing. I have no complaints about this game.
ElegantFire 07/11/2001
This is one of the best games I have ever played. I'm an RPG freak, so this was certainly my cup of tea. The story was complex, intriguing, and moving. The graphics were so unbelievable at the time it came out. Another thing I really love is the music. It fits so well, and it's enjoyable even while not playing the game (I've actually left the game running on my playstation on while I was in the room just to hear the music). The game is challenging, but not impossible (although those emerald and ruby weapons are darn close!). I could go on and on, but I'll spare you ;)
sxycheerleader 09 07/01/2001
One of the best games ever made! Final Fantasy is the best series of games ever! The storyline is so deep and you learn to love the characters. You get so many feelings playing this game...love, hatred, confusion, etc. Its so addictive and you wont beable to put the controller down. I love it..and so will you.
KnightofHo 06/22/2001
A Beautiful game, easily one of the best that Squaresoft has produced and that in itself is saying a lot. While the graphics are nothing to brag about by today's standards, they were visually stunning for when it was released, especially the beginning FMV, and of course the heartbreaking tragedy, no I won't spoil it for those who haven't played. The storyline is amazing and heart-wrenching, I found myself crying at certain points in the game. They made great use of scenery, because just after the great tragedy, you set about to a snowy wasteland, quite desolate while resonating upon the tragedy. The music is great, it is a shame that they didn't utilize the full potential of the playstation and only used SNES quality music, but it was absolutely stunning and touched with your emotions. This dark and serious plot has light spots tho, like the great number of minigames. BTW typeo, the tragedy and not being able to cast life is because when you are in random fights, they don't die, if you look at the screen it says somethingt like wounded not dead, it's just the fact that the spell is named life that causes people confusion.

I thought I could get into this game when it came out. I tried to for about 2 days. After 48 hours of being bored out of my mind with this slow and dull little game I decided to go to bed and go outside and get a job and rejoin the living. I have since not returned to my playstation. I now live a life void of video game meaninglessness. I know live a life with friends, women and fun. THANK YOU FINAL FANTASY VII!!! This game blows.
Eirik84 06/08/2001
The best game ever
Cloud 05/09/2001
This is THE BEST GAME EVER MADE! Why is Gran Turismo 2 above it. Though FF8 is good the storyline is no where near rivaling FF7's! Cloud is my hero! I'll bet he could kick anyone's ASS! The graphics on the game are good and the soundtrack I've been looking for for years! From the Pissed off people to the love story. This game cannot be ranked with other games. It is a GOD compared to them!
TypeO 04/01/2001
This is one great game. With its storyline (Aeris dying, why didn't cloud just cast life 2 on her? Its complexity, and caharcters) that right there is enough to secure a spot on the best rpg list. But, no, squaresoft didn't stop there. They added many mini-games ( Chocobo racing, materia, weapons, limits, and those frickin hard american monsters) magic, summons, and abilities, just to name a few. The graphics are 1997ish but hey? What'd u expect? I don't base the game on graphics, just replay value, depth, story, and length. I would reccomend this to any gamer, even if you're not a rpg addict (like me). This game will definetely change your mind.

I really wasn't into RPG's, before i played FF7, in fact i hated them. After going through the game a couple of times, i absolutely loved it. I played a lot of video games and i truly believe, that this is the best game ever for any gaming system. I rate it a 10 if i could. What's not to like about it!!!
marcela 01/15/2001
This is a good game. It makes you think. Plus the good part is it takes a long time to beat it, so you can really get your money's worth. It's fun, cause it is hard, you have to talk to people in the game to know what to do. And you never know what to expect.

Perfect role playing game for the Playstation. I love the characters and the animation for the game. Perfect role playing game for the year.
Denzel 01/10/2001
Had a good storyline. It had tight graphics. I like it a whole bunch. A lot of people are good fighters.
cedrickman 01/10/2001
My favorite game of all time. Very time demanding. I couldn't put the control paddle down. Graphics, sound and challenge = 5.
lokgo 01/09/2001
This game is very interesting and is great to play. I spent 100+ hours getting through the entire thing.

Can you name another playstation's RPG game that's better than this?

final fantasy 7 is one of the greatest games ever
Froggy 11/24/2000
It is an excellent role-playing game. It has very detailed graphics. The plot is also not that hard to follow. The gamedid not keep me frustrated. I like each individuals Limits. I thought they were creative.
qman 11/20/2000
Though it doesn't have the great movies or real looking people that FFVIII does, this game has the best storyline. The game is a lot longer and it has a lot of mini games that you can play anytime after a certain point in the game. Dividing your material up can be hard, but once you find the perfect combinations it's great.
remillard 11/16/2000
The first grand scale RPG for PSX, with excellent graphics and an involving storyline, make this game one of my favorites. I've missed work for days just to play it. The Materia system was a new and much appreciated addition to the battle system.
jrevillezia 11/16/2000
I love role playing games because they take a lot of time and take a lot of skill to finish it. So, you have to be smart to play this.
jinu 11/15/2000
I gave it a 4 because the graphics were good, and the storyline was okay. But then, I didn't like the fact that it changed the time period. Also, it didn't have multiple endings.
KNEEL 11/15/2000
Deepest, richest, most unprecedented RPG ever. One of the most grabbing plotlines ever. All 3 discs are enough to be a complete RPG.
Nagra 11/13/2000
Great game but annoying magic system. It takes too long to breed all of the stupid chocobos. No armour either. Aerith died...that made me mad.
princessrose 11/10/2000
I don't enjoy playing games that have more than one disc to it. I think the game is too long for me. I don't really have the patience to play games like this.
evcatt18 11/09/2000
I am deep into these role playing games and I must say I liked FFVIII by far. The graphics were definitely a good addition to the gameplay.
