I was first a bit disappointed with this game when I just started playing. The characters are not as interesting as VII and the idea of bunch of teenagers set out to save the world was a bit too much for me. However, the storyline developed rather well, and I think it beats the VII in that department. The battle system is slightly different but equally fun, and the final boss is a bit more challenging than VII, which is also a good thing. All and all, it's a great game for any RPG fan, as long as you sit through the first 20 hours watching teenagers running around kicking enemy's ass.

GROW SOME BALLS AND BUY A GOOD GAME
jj_frap 03/15/2006
Actually better than 6, but still not as good as 4 or Tactics.
Squall Strife 08/19/2005
This game introduced me to the world of final fantasy.... i think ff7 and 8 are level on points in my honest opinion. The idea of guardian forces and the numbers that were available kept me curious.Great game ... defines role playing
jirai 01/07/2005
The graphics were awesome! The music is great (in fact I picked up the soundtrack). Where this game falls flat on its face is the plot. There was too man twist and turns which made the game feel uneven. Not to mention the fact that you don't find out who the last boss in the game is until the final couple hours or so.
justblaze 12/15/2004
i think final fantasy 8 was the best game ever made by square and i don't care what everybody thinks i thought it was better then ff7. actuary i wish i hadn't play the game so i could play i and not know what's going to happen. who ever thinks it sucks doesn't know good a game's if it slapped u in the face c ya

It's a toss up between this game and Final Fantasy 7 as my favorite Final Fantasy game. I love these games.
damagedjustice metal 04/29/2004
Final Fantasy 8 grabbed me and pulled me in. I'll never forget when I played and beat it. A great game, although I dont own it anymore cus a friend got it stolen.
quezacotl 11/01/2003
this is definately the best final fantasy ever. I'm not a big fan of magic points to cast spells, so I thought the junction system was great. too bad they did't keep it in the sequels.
typhoon 10/24/2003
Best playstation game ever. Great graphics. Ending very impressive. Beginning very impressive.
Spaz 08/16/2003
Its a good game, but not great. The graphics are awesome, but the story needs work. FF7 is much better, but this one is good for my collection

I started CD1 in 6 months ago I was very busy that time. I only finished 30 minutes of gameplay. I did'nt like the way it was going. So I stopped playing later after five months I came back just for fun. Then I realised The story had taken momentum. It was not just a game it was a movie. Action, comedy, drama, thriller, romance, tragedy, patriotism, and god knows better. I finished it again it took me 6 months but I still play it again. What a remarkable game. Infact it is the only FF series I have played and I want to play them all.
darkagl1 03/10/2003
The worst Final Fantasy ever.
Gecklund311 01/10/2003
This is by far the worst in the Final Fantasy series, and I have played them all except one. The game is way too easy, and it has a lousy battle system and a cheesy storyline. Each time you use magic you have to sit and watch the spell or monster go through their animation - this is fine at first but later on it becomes very tedious. A truly lousy game filled with uninteresting characters that are masked by excellent graphics.
MECHA-Griever 12/23/2002
Along with FF-X, my favourite game. Brilliantly structured characters with immaculate FMV sequences which seem almost impossible for such a system to accommodate. Wonderul score. I thouroughly enjoyed playing this game just to see what happened next. The ending still brings tears to my eyes. Perfection!
cecils fury 11/17/2002
this is a very good game with stuning graphics and a nice storyline. the thing i like is as u progress u start to feel like part of the story it just sucks u in and in my opinion this will be a great game for many years to come. heck i still love playing the first 3 final fantasies
JJBurns84 07/24/2002
I enjoyed this game so much. So much, in fact, that few other games seemed worth my time after playing that one. I recently purchased Final Fantasy IX. What a let-down! Just because it is newer, doesn't mean it is better. Final Fantasy VIII has the best graphics of the series, except for maybe X. It has interesting game play and characters. I find myself starting a brand new game probably more than I should.
Jerry's Girl 06/13/2002
This one of the best games ever made for Playstation. It has alot of action and can be addictive. The fights are the best part of the game to me. The onl thing that I hate is walking around the world. It gets so confusing for me that sometimes I have to shut the game off and take a break because I have a headache from thinking on the location of some place. Then when you do find the place, you feel stupid because it was right on top of the palce you just left. I even have to admit that some of the fights are too hard, that's why I gave up on the last disk. But if you're going to buy a game for your Playstation, go get this one.
The Waffler 11/04/2001
Not quite as good as its predecessor, FF VII. The story is weaker, and the payoffs are not as good. The game is harder to get into. However, the music is good, the effects/graphics are spectacular, and the characters are generally good, although perhaps not as well developed as FF7.
ShockingBlue 10/20/2001
I've been playing deep, rich, complex games like Baldur's Gate and such on the PC. However, the level of freedom, interactivity, and complexity can sometimes get tiresome. When this happens, I turn to console RPGs. They usually have great stories, little interactivity, and simple interfaces so you can get right into the game and just experience a great story. FF8 fits this bill perfectly. While more complex than others of its type, its not up to Dungeons and Dragons standards certainly, but his was just what I was looking for when I played it. It has a great plot and good characters. People fawn over its graphics, which I didn't think were to spectacular (too used to playing PC games) but I did think the effects were spectacular! Never have I seen such a spectacle as when you use a Guardian Force attack. And the vibrations on the Dual Shock controller were quite a nice touch. I've never been crazy about random battles, and this game is no exception. They are, in general, evenly paced and spread apart, but sometimes, like when you're almost to the exit of a town or something and you get attacked, it can be irritating. Overall, I think it is a great game, with excellent story, spectacular effects, enormous world to explore, and great characters. Its downfalls are its lack of interactivity (you walk a few screens, watch a scene, repeat ad infinitum.) and random battles.

FF8 is a fairly good game. Although many were disappointed with it, I know many people who think it is better than FF7. The FMVs are among the most beautiful graphics I have ever seen, especially the ending. The characters are cool too. Some of the music is really awesome, but a lot of the music is stupid. In my opinion, the story isn't as good as FF7, and I didn't like it nearly as much, but it's still a very good game.
sxycheerleader 09 07/01/2001
Being a Final Fantasy/RPG fan I know a beautiful and breathtaking game when I play one. This is one of the best games ever made. The music, the characters, the storyline, and just the absolute effect that it has on you is shocking. When I finished it...I was speechless.
olsaintnic 06/27/2001
Quite simply the best game ever. period. It's a book, movie, and game all in one. The story is touching, the charter developement is great and the music is really good too. You have not lived until you play and complete Final Fantasy VIII. Even if you don't like games the story and music alone is worth experiensing.
Eirik84 06/08/2001
cool but 7 is better
The Minx 06/06/2001
Final Fantasy VIII is the greatest RPG game. It has great graphics and the storyline is simply astounding. The characters are fantasic esp. Squall and Zell (umm!!) A great game.
Spiralingmarce 04/22/2001
I have the PC version, which makes it harder to kidnap the president, but it sucks you in.
Rubinho 02/12/2001
A SIMPLY BRETHTAKING GAME IN EVERY ASPECT. AND THESE GRAPHICS ARE ACHIEVED ONLY ON THE PS ONE. BESIDES THE OUTSTANDING GRAPHICS THIS GAME IS A TRULY GREAT EXPERIENCE. CANT WAIT FOR FINAL FANTASY 9 AND ESPECIALLY 10.
Dee 20 01/23/2001
An excellent game, though not better than FF7. Just about everything about the the game was breath-taking except the part where they all happen to grow up in a orphanage together (would've rated a 5). I thought that was real lame. Excellent game nevertheless.
Kyunyn 01/15/2001
One of the best role playing games ever. The pacing is great, the graphics are great(especially the arena)and the story just keeps you going. Not a single boring moment.
puka 01/13/2001
Final fantasy 8 is the best game for psx. I thought ff7 was good but compared to ff8, its just a kid.Ultimate storyline, and plot!!!!!! The graphics are killer too! no wonder its #1!!
Denzel 01/10/2001
Had a good storyline. It has many characters you can play with. Real nice graphics. It is fun to play. I liked the old version. This has some of the same features as the other one.
GhettoPat 01/09/2001
This game has really good graphics but it lacks the regular FF game quality and gameplay. New style is a bit hard to master and understand, but it is fun.
lokgo 01/09/2001
Not better than FF7, because the characters were too big and that made every screen smaller, so the PlayStation has to load a lot.
Drew2 01/09/2001
You really get your money's worth out of this game. It is long and there is so much you can do to advance beyond what is strictly necessary. The only problem is the battles can be monotonous.
alei 01/08/2001
Wonderful RPG with great storyline and graphics. Also, a great card game.
mandabull 12/28/2000
Absolutely excellent, the best game I own so far. Why can't other RPG's be as good as they look?
TC18FWD 12/20/2000
Just look at the graphic!
Belony 11/24/2000
Great storyline. Great graphics. Suspension captivates you!!!
qman 11/20/2000
It's 4 CDs, which makes it soooo long, but there are way too many movies. If you take out the movies the game is only a couple of hours long. The graphics and movies were great. The sharpness of the characters made them look real.
Lordnetiz 11/20/2000
Epic story line. It would be wonderful except for summons (GF's) that cannot be skipped. I would love to see future Final Fantasy series games on PC.
BKuang 11/20/2000
Cheesy plot but very good graphics. The music is great.
jinu 11/15/2000
It wasn't as good as FFVII. The only thing good about it was the graphics. It took out the most important thing about the FF series, magic.
lilriz 11/14/2000
I truly think this is the greatest quality RPG ever made. The storyline is constantly compelling. The 3D battle mode has revolutionized RPG's and the Scinema displays are great. Excellent story.
aznguy 11/14/2000
I like the idea that the square soft went back to the idea of the past war knights and kingdoms.
LadyAngel759 11/13/2000
I like the graphics and how the game is. My bro plays it and I just watch him play.
Nagra 11/13/2000
The best game I've ever played, hands down. It has the best magic system, best equipment system, best storyline, and outstanding characters. There is lots to do and explore while still progressing through the game. The garden battle scene/sequence was superb. I was very impressed.
sly142 11/01/2000
I loved this game, not only for its story and graphics, but for its overall experience. The ending just makes you want the next Final Fantasy even more. One of the best PlayStation games out there.
eric7477 11/01/2000
While visually stunning, this game was somewhat of a letdown. The junction and magic systems were especially dissapointing. Why did they make these changes? FF7 was better and FF6 was better than that, let's hope FF9 fixes the changes.
theman69 11/01/2000
This is the best Final Fantasy game ever. I can't wait until part 9 comes out. This game has the best movies I have seen.
