A wonderfully innovative game that suffers from bad level design. Yes, the undead are scary (especially when they make the sounds they do in this thing), but they aren't too much of a danger to a fleet-of-foot thief. Too many of the stages don't require you to be stealthy, which is too bad, seeing how well done the lighting, sound, and AI were done. Thief 2 corrects these problems and really requires stealth, though it isn't nearly as scary as this one.

Ssssh, this is a game of no shooting, hiding in dark corners and creeping about nickin' stuff. Another new gaming genre and this one got me hooked, actually, what got me hooked was the medieval look about it yet it has that Victorian Cyberpunk feel too - you know, like the Diamond Age....no? Anyway, the game blew me away. It was exciting to crouch in a dark corner and watch a soldier walk past, moaning about his empty stomach - then suddenly you make a noise and he doubles back and creeps towards you - "I know you are around here somehwere" - you close your eyes and before he treads on your toes he says "Hmmm, must have been a rat" - fantastic!!

I love this game! If you like charge in shooting up games, then this isn't for you. And, actually there is a story line in the game.

what an amaizing game! the medival dark places, the zombies and ghosts and skeletons, the amaizing atmosphere... it is well built, and uses a great engine for this type of game. the storyline is good, the graphics are great, and it's a challenging game, with smart quests and a cool in level plot.

This game is horrible. The graphics are okay, but the gameplay is not intuitive, the physics of the interaction is weird, the weapons are all too similar, and it has no game storyline to speak of. This game would be a waste of money.

The best FPS game ever. Being on the same level as Rainbow Six, a stealth and discetion, Thief is far more intelligent than Rainbow 6. It is based on going undetected, rather than silent sniping and killing. Also the engine renders really greatly light and sound effects. This game is about being a thief, not another stupid and boring killing-machine who enjoy spilling more and more blood all-over the ground. Also, the dark medieval style of the game rocks.

This game works on the same level as the Rainbow Six series...it's a thoughtful, deliberately paced FPS. Instead of running willy-nilly down a hallway blasting anything that moves (no doubt resulting in endless, multiple deaths), in T:TDP you skulk in the shadows trying to remain undetected. You sneak about, silently approaching guards from behind and either thumping them over the head with your blackjack or putting a well-placed arrow in their neck. You then stash the body in a dark corner and continue. The graphics are dark and moody, the sound totally immersive, and the mission sufficently varied to keep you playing to see what comes next. Another excellent entry by Looking Glass studios. Thief II is more of the same, but with a refined graphics engine. Both highly recommended.
