In the tank for Obama, as are most big city papers. It was a reporter for this paper (and WLS and ABC-News) who applied for (and was granted) the release of Jack Ryan's extremely damaging divorce records, a liberal judge in LA granted it and Ryan withdrew within days. Google Obama Jack Ryan to find out about this new, different type of politician and his supporters/machine.
We really need to encourage more people like this to enter political office. We also deperately need more newspapers and TV stations to adopt an ideological stance, particularly in years when important elections might be close.

The Trib is the newspaper of the midwest, More readable than The Times or The Times or The Post. In the middle of America, this is the paper of record.

steady solid news. tends not to sensationalize as much as other big city papers. BUT, it endorsed George W Bush in 2004?? In democratic Chicago? Almost an unforgivable error.

Got to be a 1 no rugby in the sports section...............

A very well written, complete paper, with many interesting editorials. It has also reduced its invariably conservative stance over the years, making it a more interesting paper to read. However, it doesn't quite have the national quality of the New York Times. I wouldn't quite see the point of reading this paper, for instance, outside of Chicago.

Not as good as the New York Times, but the Chicago Tribune has good articles and good middle-of the road politcal editorials.

Absolutely terrible. Poorly written, uninformative, and biased as all get out. Though it's published in a major city and pretends to be a big city newspaper it is has a much lower level of quality than the average paper from a smallish city such as the Winston-Salem Journal or Roanoke Times. It is by no means a competitor with the NY Times, Wall Street Journal, Boston Globe, Washington Post, or LA Times. If you have to buy a local paper get the Sun Times; at least it doesn't have delusions of grandeur. Better yet pick up the Chicago Reader.

It only gets a two. Its too local, and doesnt cover the national and world headlines like the Sun-Times does. Also, the Sun-Times is pulling ahead in the sports section, with instigating Jay Mariotti and Rick Telander columns.

The Trib does ship nationally, but it is more useful to locals. Personally I think it more than matches the NY Times.

The Trib is no New York Times, but it is an excellent regional newspaper. The Sports section is one of the best there is (and wins awards every year reinforcing that fact), and its coverage of local politics and government is solid. The Trib does not ship nationally (only regionally). If you live in or around Chicago, this the best paper around.

The Trib is a great paper, and it's the first thing I read every day when I lived in Chicago, but what's the point of reading it if you live outside of the Chicagoland area? In no single area (national/international news, politics/government, sports, popular culture) does it consistently top other papers.
