| kilbeyway (0) 05/16/2007 | Utter tripe. What is this, the Springfield Shopper? Verges on yellow journalism. If I need to find out what's going on in California, I need to read the LA Times or SacBee. National/World news only gets printed if it is Bay Area centric. We apparently live in a bubble.

| Golden Bear (0) 02/02/2005 | Mediocre. Seems more like it should be compared to the daily papers in Sacramento, Modesto, Fresno, Stockton, etc. than to the NY Times, LA Times, or Washington Post.

| musicfan (0) 03/11/2004 | The San Francisco Chronicle is not a great newspaper. But, compared to the New York Times and the Washington Post, it is an average large city daily paper. It has good local coverage, but poor national coverage. San Francisco is a true American treasure. There is more culture, power, money, and major business decisions originating in San Francisco than any other West Coast city. The Chronicle doesn't reflect the importance of the City. As a third generation San Franciscan who has lived all over the world, we natives deserve a better daily. We also miss Herb Caen terribly. No one will ever be able to take his place.

| 37102002 (2) 11/09/2002 | Surprisingly lightweight paper for the culutral and financial center of the West coast. Just not many articles of depth.

| aymond (0) 10/15/2001 | Doesn't deserve consideration in ratings of this nature. Historically it has not been good, but the transfer of ownership has only added to its troubles. Political ideology gets in the way of fair and balanced reporting. There is an increasing "disconnect" between highlines and the story content, and simple clerical errors are increasing. Increasingly relies on outside elite to tell the reader what they are suppose to thing. Needs an honest assessment of its role and potential contribution to the Bay Area.

| john430et (0) 01/24/2000 | One of the worst major dailies in the U.S., perhaps second to The Daily Oklahoman. Only bright spot used to be Herb Caen, but ever since he kicked it, it's been bleak. Given all the interesting issues going on in the San Fran region these days, it's especially lame that the can't get it together.

| dspr460om (0) 11/29/1999 | This paper sucks. I've subscribed to the San Francisco Chronicle, the Chicago Tribune, the Detroit News/Free Press, the Indianapolis Star, the Philadelphia Inquirer and the New York Times. The San Francisco Chronicle is the worst of all of them. The best articles in the Chronicle are the ones they just take from the AP wires or the New York Times. Even the San Jose Mercury News has a better Sports section and MUCH better coverage of the region's hottest topic, Silicon Valley. What a disgrace.

| Wiggum (16) 11/26/1999 | I recently moved to San Francisco and I've been a little disappointed with the Chronicle. They have good Silicon Valley coverage, and they do a great job of covering local issues, but the national-level news/sports/business leaves a lot to be desired. And they really need to get some better comics.
