Reverend Lovejoy..not your typical reverend! He seems to have a bit of a dark side of him..you can probably expect a dark, revealing episode about Lovejoy, like what that guy below me said. And whos ever heard of a minister who likes toy trains? Good character.

For putting up with Ned Flanders, he deserves a four.

He does a great job of representing apostacy in the Church.

He gets a 5 because he sounds so much like Al Gore

Can someone please tell me...does Lisa Simpson have an answer to everything? is there nothing she does not know? Why is Lisa not only always right but always so smug about it?

lovejoy is the minister of the church. he finds ned annoying. and he once stopped a train with monkies on it.

He's there. That's it.

I don't think Lovejoy is a good representative of people in the ministry. Like everything else in the Simpsons, he is a stereotype of a major facet of American life; much like Homer is the prototypical blue collar worker or Marge is the soccer mom of the family. I don't think that most blue collar workers are dunces and I don't think that most preachers are moral hypocrites who are indifferent to the moral circumstances of their congregations. Lovejoy does make for good entertainment value though.

I think Lovejoy is a great character to symbolize the entire organized church. He even gets annoyed that Ned Flanders is over-religious and interprets and lives by the Bible too strictly. My favorite moment is when he says: "Please rise for our opening hymn, In the Garden of Eden by I-ron Butterfly." And after he figures out it's not a church song, he says in amazement: "Wait a minute, this sounds like rock and/or roll."

Rev. Lovejoy is great for so many reasons. As someone else pointed out, the sarcasm abounds, just look at his name compared to his stance on things. The best line would be "Have you ever actually read this thing? Technically we're not even allowed to go to the bathroom."

He's really the only character who has sarcasm on the show. He brings something different to the table and has had some great quotes. In one episode he's manning an ice cream booth and Lisa walks up and he asks her if she wants to try one of the special ice creams. He offers her the Unitarian ice cream and she looks and says "there's nothing there" he replies "exactly". Please forgive me if that wasn't precisely how the dialogue went, but regardless that is priceless. To all you Unitarians out there don't get upset, because you know it's the truth.

He's had some realy great moments, like when he helped Homer escape from PBS and when he let his dog poop on Ned's lawn.

He annoys me.... his voice is annoying and he's a HORRIBLE reverend.
