Greatest Negro-League Pitcher ever. Was so good that he pitched when he was in his 50's.

Probably would be a five if he pitched in the ML for a full career but I am already adding a great deal to his actual ML accomplishments.

Paige was one of the greatest pitchers in baseball history. He pitched for touring black teams and teams in the Negro leagues for more than 20 years at a time when blacks were not allowed to play in the major leagues.

Good player.

He is one of the greatest classic baseball pitchers off all time. He had a great knuckleball that would fool you right after he gave you a speedy 100 mile humming fast ball.

Satchel Paige was on of the greatest stars to play in the Negro Baseball Leagues, Thrilled Millions of people and won hundreds of games. Struck out 21 Major Leaguers in an exhibition game. Helped pitch Cleveland Indians to the 1948 pennant to his first big league year ay age 42. His pitching was a legend among Major League hitters.

There's no way to know just how good he was, but if even half the legends are true he was pretty darn good,

Satchel was one of, if not the greatest. No MLB fans got to see him in his peak, and it makes me sad to think of what could have been

He pitched well for a few innings when he was in his 60's. The major leagues only saw him way after his prime. Would have been nice to see him and other Negro Leaguers against the other old greats.

Taken as whole-- Satchel had a remarkable career. His rating is a little lower than most would give him because although the Negro league had some amazing players-- there was not the overall depth of the major leagues and Satchel often faced very marginal talent. Also, being an average major league player once he finally got the chance to play-- leads to an average rating from me.
