Loved this show back in the 60's and love it now. He was right about drugs then. All they did was mess people up. Many of my friends who turned on unfortunatly turned out for good.

The 50's Dragnet was completely different than the later series (color) that was made in the 60's when it became a preachy tirade against the counter-culture. The earlier version was much grittier ala Naked City style real-life detective drama. I think the acting was much more movie quality as well. Four stars for the 50's Dragnet, three for the later version which often became unintentionally humorous.

What is impressive about Dragnet is the foundation it built for police shows forever. Dick Wolf even credits it with influencing Law and Order. While the 67-70 episodes had their ups and downs, Jack Webb was also creating classic shows as Adam-12 and Emergency in this time frame. Little known about paramedics before Emergency. The 60's Dragnet episodes were most entertaining in battling the generation gap of the hippie culture versus the "old school". A great way to see how middle America viewed hippies/drug abuse/open sex, etc. Also unglamorously covered drunk driving in an episode, clearly ahead of its time in that respect. Showing actual photos of accident scenes. 1967 episodes are available on DVD now too. Worth watch just for the theme music alone, one of the best known themes of all time.

A dull, predictable badly acted epiphany for the LAPD. The facts were that this was crap.

Dragnet. An American TV legend. Let's face it, the episodes filmed in the late 60's with Jack Webb and Harry Morgan are a riot! Jack Webb's stiff-as-a-board Joe Friday made every show an edge-of-your-seat experience, waiting to see him give The Lecture to some a) wreckless teenager, b) callous businessman, or c) callous AND stupid criminal or (d)a spaced-out hippie. For the true TV afficianado, Harry Morgan began to diplay his comedic talents that would make him sore to even higher fame as Colonel Sherman Potter in the TV series M*A*S*H. TV is supposed to be entertainment and fun. It just doesn't get any better than Dragnet.

A wonderful comedy, though it apparently wasn't meant to be. Does anyone seriously believe that every person in L.A. who talked to a cop, spoke in such self-assured disrespectful tones? Friday's rapid-fire monotone delivery was a riot too. And these were based on REAL stories, though the show seemed caricatured. Harry Morgan helped to enhance any show he was ever in, and on this one he was a subtle comedian too.

A good show..except the public is all so dumb. These guys I like except they are so perfect and never get in trouble..after all what fun is it going to work and never getting into trouble..just kidding. Anyway it would have been more realistic to see them get into a little trouble...everyone knows this is a tough job and dealing with the bad guys isnt easy.

The 60/70s version was inadvertently hysterical. The 50s version was dark and menacing. Kinda like two separate shows altogether. Taken as a whole, this was one of the best cop shows ever on the air. Oink oink.

My name's Friday. I carry a badge. It was 8:00 A.M Sunday, I'm working the morning shift out of bunko... The show that tought us what cops talk like. In its original incarnation this was a good show. The later version was sort of a parody, but fun to watch. My favorite episode..Mr. Daniel Loomis.

Quite possibly the best cop show ever created. I could always tell a lot of legal research went into each of these episodes.

This is a great show. I just wish they would show the 50s episodes in reruns. I've only seen two episodes from the 50s and it's because I bought them on video. All I've seen on TV are the later ones from 67-70. Why?

HEY KISSMERICHARD! You've described hi-camp, a show that intended to be serious but looks rediculous. It's hard for me to rate this show because at the time it was probably ok but it has become great in a hilarious sort of way. I can't get enough of the absurd depiction they give of weed! The evil reefer madness. What was the line? MARIJUANA'S the flame, HEROINS'S the fuse, ACID'S the bomb. I"m practically rolling on the floor right now !!! This was my dads show. But I enjoy those two big lugs, Gannon and Friday. Was America really that straight once ?!!

This show wasn't supposed to be funny, but it is. Jack Webb was just so stiff you have to laugh! I used to think this show was the most boring show on earth, but thanks to my obsession with Adam-12, I watch this show a lot now. Too bad it's going off TV Land soon.

The greatest cop show ever! Doesn't matter how it comes across today: it was cutting edge in 1952, it was still ahead of its time in 1967, and there isn't a continuing drama series on TV today that doesn't owe a debt to Jack Webb, because he DID IT ALL FIRST!!!

The pilot episode was the only good episode in this 13 year running show. It was so boring and unexciting. The acting was so dull, and the scripts were cut paper thin.
