This is the best show the 70s produced. The chemistry and comedy were perfect (at least until they moved to California). I miss this show!

Only show that tops Happy Days!
Spike65 08/22/2007
An update on I Love Lucy. Fun in the beginning, ran out of ideas after the first few seasons. Loved Lenny and Squiggy. About two stars after the move out west.

Milk and Pepsi is the only thing I really remember about this show...Laverne's favorite drink. Think I'll try it some time just for the * of it.
VirileVagabond 10/16/2006
In my opinion, "Laverne & Shirley" owes much of its popularity due to its being a spin-off from "Happy Days". Other than Lenny (Michael McKeanand) and Squiggy (David Lander), the characters were a bit bland, and the screenwriters were a bit lazy (surviving primarily due to a plum timeslot). To make matters worse, the series clearly "jumped the shark" when the setting was changed from Milwaukee to Los Angeles. When I look back now and find out when some of these shows ended (in this case 1983), I'm always amazed at how long they lasted well after I lost interest.

I'm sure this show is great for the right audience, but I'm not a member of that audience. One and a half stars

Stunk to high heaven. Yuuck.

I thought the Waynes World Parody of it was funnier than this lame Schlock so called comedy ever was.The ugly step child of the vastly overrated happy days.Stupid Characters called the big ragoo(hated him the worst)The perpetually annoying Penny Marshal and the card board cutout Cindy Williams.Annoying unfunny parents. The only funny thing was Lenny and Squiggy but even that couldn't keep me watching a whole episode, and last but not least the annoying mindless theme song.I think i need to jump into a vat of schotts beer to escape the memory of this pox on our culture.
GenghisTheHun 10/11/2005
It had its moments of LOL scenes. These feisty blue collar babes usually had something to make us laugh.
kattwoman 10/02/2005
laverne and shirley were fun though i found that shirley tended to get on my nerves. lenny and squiggy were hilarious. i always hoped they would get together.
Hopper 05/28/2005
Stupid and predictable. Cindy Williams' character was irritating. At least the girls were decent.
irishgit 03/25/2005
One of those shows that probably costs you a point of IQ everytime you watch it.
Groovy 08/06/2004
Loved it as a kid and it's still pretty enjoyable. However, the show started to go downhill the last three years when they moved to California. The first year out west was OK, but then the writing sharply deteriorated and Laverne and Shirley were reduced to being supporting characters. And the last year was terrible without Shirley. What were the writers thinking when they had an episode where Laverne was falsely accused of robbing a bank and was arrested and put in jail, and I think she dreamt she was going to be executed? However, in the early years this show was very funny and better than Happy Days. Remember them catching the murderer on the train episode, which is my favorite and I think their best. Or how about the classic line, Betty, pickup please in the episode involving the restaurant Dead Lazlo's Place.
Throwback72 06/21/2004
Great throwback show can still watch today loved it right after Happy Days. Wow miss those days was very funny in Milwaukee kinda lost sometrhing when they moved to LA

I liked this show when it first aired. I still like to watch it on Lifetime. My kids think that it a dumb show but it still is funny to me.
Indio70 04/28/2004
There were a couple of good episodes, just as good as Happy Days (wish I had cable back then -- wasn't much else to watch -- guess that's why I watched so much PBS).
Molfan 03/30/2004
when it was orinally on i watched it every week. two friends live together in the 1950s. Laverne more outspoken and a bit tougher, Shirley more meek and more to following the rules. they manage to get in trouble sometimes. they were known for the physical comedy like Lucy and Ethel. I liked it a bit more in the 70s but still don't mind it.
getback 05/08/2003
just wasted energy for a half baked show
Moosekarloff 04/28/2003
The worst show in television history. If you have an IQ of about 50, an emotional age of about 4, and the cultural awareness of a bowel movement, this is the program for you.
EmilyR 03/18/2003
THE BEST SHOW THATEVER AIRED!
crimson_and_cl over 02/20/2003
Laverne and Shirley are hilarious. Penny and Cindy were great together
HEIDLEEHOPE 02/09/2003
Loved it...those two crazy girls and the crap they would do always made me laugh...and Lenny and Squiggy were too funny.
BugahaNE 02/07/2003
Anyone who rates this less than 5 knows nothing about comedy. This is a classic, 2 lovable losers with crappy jobs but are perfectly happy with their lives. Kind of a little like "I Love Lucy" , they'd get in to the most hilarious situations that would just get worse and worse. One episode they went on a dirt-cheap vacation package to a place called "Near Mexico". It was a classic.Like another reviewer said, Carmine was boring and totally unnecassary to the story.
red630 12/09/2002
Why did they leave Milwaukee!
Narud Otrebor 12/07/2002
Ugly place, ugly people, ugly show. Mind-numbingly bad.
radiogman 08/15/2002
This show had it's moments.
Redwolf 08/03/2002
Funny....
Joey1963 06/01/2002
It was a funny slapstick show...it lost its punch after they moved to California and Shirley got married and moved away.
Errol 02/13/2002
Why watch a spinoff of a show that had already gone downhill? All the bad qualities of Happy Days with virtually none of the good ones.
ClassicTVFan47 12/04/2001
Another great classic comedy! This highly successful spinoff of Happy Days (another cool classic) featured great slapstick mixed with snappy dialogue and had little objectionable material in it. Even after Shirley left, things weren't so bad (the new intro sequence was cool!). Axed prematurely by ABC in 1983.
Texx 11/23/2001
Marshall and Williams are one of the most underrated comedy duos in history. The chemistry between them on camera was electric and the moments of physical comedy are absolutely priceless. Lenny & Squiggy were hysterical in their own right. The problem was the indecisive nature of the plot. The rest of the supporting cast left a lot to be desired as well. Carmine was one of the most underwhelming characters on TV - and why'd the insist on letting him dance?
kcdreemin 10/02/2001
My favorite show of all time!!! Other shows have tried to compare, but they never will!
Snoopy 09/17/2001
I've never found L&S funny.
mommycgl 04/20/2001
These two were a riot. Betty Please.....
starlet 04/09/2001
This show wins the sitcom stink bomb award. Two whiny, senseless, promiscuous morons sharing an apartment and cavorting around with a host of irritating lowlifes. A show designed to entertain low functioning and mentally challenged human beings. Pass this mess on by.
callmetootie 04/05/2001
Laverne and Shirley sounds like a bad sitcom, but it is in fact one of the greast sitcoms of all time. I didn't really have too much trouble when Shirley left, unlike other viewers, because we got more introduced with Laverne's family after that, and Laverne suddenly got very interesting.
shelliw 02/15/2001
This show was so Excellent. Absolutely hilarious.
bbjj 11/21/2000
I really liked this show alot and have seen all 178 episodes. I would like to see a reunion with Penny and Cindy sometime. The scripting could have been a little better like in Episode 113 when they moved to California. This would have been more believable if they would have made it two-parts. Also in Episode 157, Why did u not see Shirleys husband and it all happened too quick, could have been a two-parter as well. Episode 159, The Note was alright, but a few flashbacks would have been more emotionally involved. And whatever happened to Edna, we see her in Episode 130, then she leaves Frank in 172, where was she all that time. I would like to talk with the directors personally and tell them to do a little better of a job when trying to capture reality.
steve garcia 10/08/2000
possibly the worst show ever made and one of the ten most overrated
Kris10 10/03/2000
Laverne and Shirley was hilarious. I remember sitting down watching the episodes, and laughing till I couldn't breathe. They would over-dramatize crazy situations, and watching them run back and forth like idiots was hilarious. Its an all around fun show, and I never saw anything bad about it. Watch a few episodes, and i'm sure you'll get hooked. They air every night at 12:30 am, eastern time, on Nick at Nite. Rock On!
ca198099et 07/03/2000
Why was everyone afraid of Carmine? He was a little wimp like the Fonz. Laverne had a Brooklyn accent & lived in Milwaukee. Id rather watch paint dry than watch the insult to intellagence.
jayn7123om 06/05/2000
I Love Lucy ripoff. Who is "the big Ragu" and why is he on there? Or Betty Garrett, or any of those other people who don't do anything funny. Only saving grace: Lenny and Squiggy
uptonrate 02/10/2000
One of the all-time worst sitcoms ever.
